General :: How To Protect Android From Getting Messed Up

Mar 13, 2012

My parents are going on a trip in a month and they have there heart set on taking a smartphone with them. What they need is being able to call, text and mail. They also want to be able to use it as a backup (just in case) for finding their way. So just in case they get lost to find out where they are on their map or use the gps to guide them for a little while.

So basically, calling, sms, mail and gps. They don't need to be able to change a lot of settings. So, I was thinking about installing their (yet to buy) smart phone with a simple home screen and the settings they would need. To keep them from accidentally messing anything up, I was wondering if it is possible to password protect settings and stuff.

-how to protect settings etc.
-a good home screen
-other things like very simple gps app for example

General :: Phone Time Date Is Messed Up?

Oct 15, 2013

I have a Samsung centura. If I let the battery get too low the phone defaults back two hours. Today all of the sudden it was set 6 hours ahead... FB says my current posts were yesterday and the responses are tomorrow. Confusing. My usual fix of turning off and back on the automatic date and time has no effect. According to my settings I am set tothe eastern us time zone which I am. I manually changed the settings but that seems to be a temporary fix. What am I doing wrong?

General :: Password Protect Some Photos In Gallery?

Apr 22, 2014

I had a Galaxy Ace S5830 phone and now I've changed my phone. It had one app that I could protect any of my gallery photos with a password. I don't know if it was a pre-installed app by Samsung or I had installed it manually and I can't remember the name of that. I need it for my new Galaxy Note... Remember I just want special photos in my gallery to be password protected. I DON'T mean an "App Locker Program, such AppLocker Pro app or similar to it".

General :: Lock / Password Protect Specific Settings?

Apr 14, 2011

Is there a way or an app that will let me lock certain parts of Settings? Like if I want to allow our users to change Sound, Display, etc, but lock them out of Applications and Accounts&Sync?

I have found a few apps that will let us password protect things on the phone, but with them if I choose Settings, then they can't change anything and I want them to have a bit of flexibility, but I have to keep them out of Applications because then they could just kill the password app that locks them out of certain apps.

General :: Lock Or Password Protect Wallpaper Settings

Jun 3, 2013

I'm looking for a way to lock or password protect the wallpaper settings. There are apps out there that lock apps, and lock the "settings" app, but long pressing the homescreen allows you to alter wallpapers directly and circumvents any such protection.

I know you can password protect the whole phone, but that's besides the point. I'm looking for a way to protect wallpaper settings specifically.

General :: Galaxy S4 - Lock Or Password Protect Phone Settings Or Data Usage?

Nov 19, 2013

I'm on a family plan with my wife and 13yr old son. We purchased a Galaxy S4 for our son as a Birthday present in October. However, as of recent his grades have taken a dive. We notice he eats, sleeps and breathes on the phone. He primarily uses it for surfing the net, instagram or youtube. We were thinking of grounding him and removing his phone but we need him to have his phone as a point of contact. However, is there anyway to stop his data usage. I realize there is a setting on the phone to disable data usage but it is fairly easy to re-enable it.

Is there anyway to lock or password protect the phones settings or data usage?

I tried googling but the results kept yielding information relative to the "lock screen" which isnt what im looking for.

HTC EVO 4G :: Android Phone Messed Up - Start From Scratch?

Jul 17, 2010

So I got my first Android phone, this Evo 4G last week. It's really great and I love it but I have all kinds of crazy stuff going on, triple contacts, facebook contacts, my gmail account contacts, my business google apps contacts, just things seem kinda out of control since it's my first Android phone. So I'm thinking about just starting with a clean slate, now that I know a lot more about what the phone can do, which calendars to you, which sms program, other apps that are must-haves. Is this a good idea? Will it do anything to my SD card, which has all of my apps backed up?

Android :: Widget Resources Messed Up After Update

May 16, 2010

When our app gets updated sometimes the buttons on existing widgets get the wrong icon drawables, and sometimes the layout itself is broken. I believe this is because the update has different values for some of the drawable and other resources, since they're generated alphabetically, but the widget host still retains the old ids. A delete and re-create of the widget fixes the problem, but a number of users get confused by it and of course it just looks bad.

Is there something I should be doing to prevent this? If not are there any workarounds, other than making all the resources used by widgets start with "0" or something equally ugly?

Android :: How To Protect Private Information From Others?

Jun 23, 2010

I've integrated lots of private information like accounting, messaging, emails, tasks and so on, into desktop widgets and everywhere around the phone. Every so often, someone wants to take a look at the phone and play around. Reading some important stuff is one thing, but people tend to mess the stuff around as well. Have you found a program or a way to protect from that? (other than denying to the people :> ) I guess some kind of shell program that you turn over when someone wants to demo the phone would be a nice solution.

Android :: Better Way To Protect Apps - Get A License Key?

Apr 6, 2009

Just did a little search on google with my paid app name, I found these:

http://www.ipmart-forum.com/archive/index.php/t-337082.html http://droidappz.co.cc/index.php/board,21.0.html

Someone bought the priced app from market with the "rooted" phone and copy the apk file, then post on the websites for others to download.

Should Android team give a better way to protect the priced apps?

For example, encrypt the apk with the unique device hardware id for each download request. And verify the key before execution. So the apk can only be used on this phone.

There should be much better and complicated ways. but this is the basic idea.

I have checked the BlackBerry app world, looks like they have something different:

http://na.blackberry.com/eng/developers/appworld/faq.jsp

>My application requires a license key, how can I get a license key to >the end user? >BlackBerry App World asks you to indicate that an application requires >a license key. The license key models supported include Static, >Single, Pool or Dynamic.

Which is the best way to protect them from outer access from phone or from PC. XMLs can be encrypted. And images too, however there are times when they need to be accessed very often and encrypting-decrypting is very heavy operation. XML encryption is manageable but images cause memory problems. Is there any alternative way, something at folder level ?
