View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been lurking the rooting scene and other places for quite a while, but have only just joined up in these forums. (I'm no forum nooby been on and been active on dozens of forums)
I have to admit, this most likely has been answered before, but I have been extremely busy lately due to school.
The question: I have refrained from rooting my Hero (I am a linux user in case any one wanted to know ) due to time constraints, I have yet to root it. I will probably attempt this weekend.
I bought the hero Oct. 11th, the day it came out iirc, and I have built up quite a hefty sum of applications.
After the rooting process, I plan use the gumbo kernel, and fresh1.1. One of the reasons that have held me from rooting is what happens to those apps? I will flash Fresh1.1, so they will be deleted. Is there a way to extract all the applications from the nandroid backup I will make before flashing Fresh 1.1, and put them on the SD card and install them? I would love very much not to have to go and individually download each application from the market again.
I did a search and couldn't find anything on this.I am still using the stock 2GB microSD card, and looking to root. Can I root with my current card (which has 650MB-ish available), and after rooting just purchase a new card and swap it out. Or would it be more advantageous to purchase the new SD card prior to rooting?
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I've tried and tried again using RA and other linux based programs (GParted) to get my 8GB card to partition for apps2sd. Everything always runs smoothly and shows that the card is partitioned correctly. But then upon reboot the SD card shows full fat32 memory (6.9 GB). No matter what I do, after reboot, the partitions never happen. When I used GParted, and then loaded the SD card on the phone it always says that the SD card is damaged and I need to reformat. I've done that and rerun everything to no avail. Someone please tell me this issue is that the SD card is corrupted and I should give up. Because I've followed everything to a T as far as partitioning. With that I'll say that I had no problems rooting my phone, flashing ROM's/RA's, etc, and have been able to do whatever I want as far as new things to load. I've finally decided after all this time to do apps2sd, and I literally screwed around for 5+ hrs today, trying to partition the SD card properly. Any thoughts?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI know this 2.1 is out of control, I was just curious about the option of being able to save apps to the SD card on 2.1 or without rooting? It sucks having to decide which apps are least important.
View 3 Replies View RelatedCan you move your apps to a memory card without rooting the phone?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been hearing that with android you cannot install apps on an SD memory card? Does that mean you have to use the onboard memory of 512mb? That wont hold many apps AT ALL. If so that is a horrible choice by HTC to not incorporate a big storage and forget about the use of an SD card.

View 2 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know how to move / save apps to your SD card? I am using the RA heroc rom and apps to SD will not work are there any other apps to do this or can you do it manually with a file manager?
View 18 Replies View RelatedSince rooting and using custom roms, I've been using the apps2sd facility the this offers, however If I want to install certain apps to the phone memory rather than my SD card, is it possible to do this at all? I've not yet been given the option of doing this at all.

View 2 Replies View RelatedJust switched from BB 9810 to a Samsung Rugby running Android 4.1.2
I am trying to locate the option to store the emails and text on the SD card.
I need instant access to my emails/texts going back a year or so.
BB had an option to save all emails, and a location.
I just cant find it on my Android.
I have a rooted Sprint Hero and I'd like to save and run apps off of my 16gb class 6 SD card while running the factory ROM. Is this possible? If so how can I do so. If not, I'm willing to flash to a different ROM, what's a good stable one?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have an application which resides on the phone memory but downloads large data to the SD card on first launch (the app needs to be able to work without an internet connection most of the time) When using the recommend directory given in Froyo it seems all files on the SD card are deleted when I install a newer version of the .apk. I'd preferably like the files removed on uninstall, but not on upgrade since the files on the SD card aren't going to change between application versions, and forcing the user to re-download a large file that is independent of the application version does not seem reasonable. At the moment it seems I'm forced to use a different directory to the recommended one in order to stop Froyo deleting all the files when the application is upgraded. Am I doing something wrong, or is this how it is supposed to work (I'm guessing it is)?
View 8 Replies View RelatedOK, I have one try left, so I need to make sure I get this right. Here we go; What is the DEFAULT Password for the SIM Card?
Also, are there any advantages to storing your contacts on your Phone and the SIM Card? Currently I have them stored on Google and the Phone.
I really like the new Google Navigation, and it would be really handy for when I go abroad cycling, apart from the roaming charges. Any apps that can cashe the maps and store them, or must I always be connected?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've just updated the ROM on my hero and the improvements are instantly noticeable. One thing I have seen is in the Albums menu I have another Videos directory. After looking at this I find a vid I uploaded to my phone a while ago, but before it wasn't listed. The directory is in the root of the SD card called videos. After playing around and trying to add another vid, this directory has now disappeared from the Albums list.
So, how do you store videos on you sd card and access them from the albums list? The other bits, I'm wondering about are: Can you add pics to the phone and link them with your music albums, or do the images have to be embedded in the mp3? Is there a way to download peoples facebook pictures without going to the website and doing it manually?
I picked up my captivate on launch day and its my first android device, so far I love it!
Anyway quick question, since AT&T blocks off apps such as PDAnet and WiFi tethering apps of the market place, if I were to root, would I be able to get one of these apps? WiFi tethering is really important to me, I always used it on my old phone.
Last night I rooted my Evo (Android 2.1) using Unrevoked 3.21, then flashed the new Fresh ROM and radios. I encountered several "gotchas" that may help others doing the same thing.
1. I had to try the Unrevoked program four times before the root "took". The first three times I got the message "Unable to obtain root. This happens sometimes" message. I would actually like to know (at least at a high level) why it failed the first three times. I tried it on a Win XP laptop the first two times, then switched to a Windows Vista machine, then back to my XP machine when it finally worked.
2. After verifying that my rooted Android 2.1 was working ok, I decided to flash the new Fresh ROM. First, I did a Titanium backup of everything on the phone, that went fast (although the Titanium interface could be improved. You have to go into the menu and select Batch to do the actual backup). As a fail-safe, I tried to do a backup of apps + data using MyBackup Pro. Unfortunately, it kept hanging on the app backup, so I just did a data backup. I also did an Astro backup of the apps, and (of course) I also did a nandroid backup of the current ROM (thanks to the good advice on this forum).
3. I then did a factory reset and cache wipe of the phone, then went ahead and flashed the latest Fresh ROM and radios. Both went very smoothly, I checked the version of the ROM and baseband in the phone settings and they match. Unfortunately, restoring the apps and data did NOT go smoothly at all. First, I discovered that Titanium doesn't seem to work as advertised. It didn't back up all my apps (I have over 150, guess that's a lot, but still!). A good example was Folder Organizer. It didn't get backed up so I had to re-download it. Next, Titanium didn't restore any of my data, SMS, call logs, home screen settings, nada. Fortunately, the MyBackup Pro data backup had almost all of that stuff, so I was able to get most of it back. The Astro backup was pretty useless the app list is not sorted by name (it uses the "com" package name") so it's virtually impossible to find what you're looking for. Lesson learned: if you've heavily customized your home screens, maybe flashing ROM's is not for you. If there's a better way to restore apps and settings after flashing, let us know!
4. Finally (and I believe this is a known issue) the FriendStream widget and Facebook contact linking is not working with this ROM.
At least I'm rooted now. Wireless tether works, the ROM works as advertised (scrolling and transitions are noticeably smoother due to the frame rate mod). I haven't had a chance to test 4G, I've got it turned on and will test around town. If it doesn't work then I'll restore the nandroid backup and go back to stock.
I am getting a Desire next week. How many apps you can install on the internal memory without 'rooting' it? I'll probably install a lot of apps when I get mine next wednesday (I already have made a list of over 30!) and I would really like to avoid rooting it as it will probably void the warranty and I am not sure I could do it anyway - even after reading the step by step guide a few times over. How many apps have you all managed to fit in before getting the memory low message that some have reported?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI rooted my HTC Incredible last week and installed the Virtuous ROM with froyo 2.2. I recently realized that after doing this there are a ton of apps missing from the android market. Even ones that I already have installed on my phone like Evernote and Google Sky Map. If I go to the downloads section of the market which should show the apps I have installed it shows none.
The verizon section of the market displays only three applications when I know there should be a whole lot more. What is going on? I cannot find any apps. When I search for something there is usually one or two apps that show up and are not even what I was looking for. Is this a widespread problem with the market or a side effect of rooting and upgrading to the virtuous ROM?
I have just used the instructions on this forum to first root my phone, and then install New 2.2 on to my desire. What a improvement in performance and Shockwave flash works. But I can't install on to my SD Card at all. If I download a app from the market (or my pc) which is set to install on extrenal storage (SD Card), it downloads and the installation fails. I also can't use APP 2 SD as when I try and copy to memory it fails. so if I then unmount my SD Card, and install the same app, it installs and works fine. So do I need to do something to my SD Card?
