HTC Hero :: Rebel Sim Card

has anybody successfully used a Rebel SIM card as a simple way to unlock an Orange UK Hero please. I know the pros and cons of other ways of unlocking but I am just trying to understand this way.Does it work? There is mention of some sort of software installed on the phone - does that work in Android? Can you use it to download Data? If so do you have to change all the APN settings to do so.Can it be used with the new SIM's answerphone?Do I have to trim the SIM dard in any way?I am happy with Orange in the UK (have to be since I have an 18 month contract!). However when I am in another country (e.g. USA or South Africa) I find it cheaper to buy a local PAYG SIM and pop it in my phone. That way no nasty Roaming bills when I get home. Will it work with SIMs in other countries?I know I could ask the supplier all these questions but I want to know the truth warts and all!

I have the Modaco latest ROM. Its been perfectly fine since I installed it over a month ago, but recently my memory card corrupted and now I cannot download any apps off the market.I had an ext2 partition, so I reformatted my memory stick the exact same way it was before it corrupted. Even so, whenever I try to download items from the market they just get stuck on "Starting Download".I literally cannot download ANY apps

I already had one to replace the one that it comes with at home so I didn't have Sprint open it to replace it. I forgot to ask as well.I've searched online and the "chin" hero seems to have a little dent where you can prop it open. The Sprint Hero looks pretty solid... but I know you have to open it to replace the SD card so my question is how do I do it without ruining the molding?

I have a htc hero that wont mount the sd card. It has no options to mount even tho it will sync fine and charges fine. I have tried two different sd cards a PNY and a Sandisk. I had a Hero before this one that I lost and it had the exact same problem. No matter what card I use there is no mount option. I have installed usb switcher and still no mount option. I know that this is related to 2.1 cause the previous version had a mount option any ideas?

Is there a way to view whats on your sd card from your phone rather than just hooking it up to the computer? cause ive been saving things and it says it saves on the sd but i don't know where to find it unless i hook up my sd card to the computer.

Sorry if this has been asked a million times, but I can't seem to find the answers. No doubt due to my ineptitude. How much memory is std. internal? My phone says 123MB available. How can I upgrade from the std. memory (SD card) without losing my data? How large an SD card can I use in the Hero? How can I get MP3's onto the SD card? Do I have to sync with my PC? Can I load apps. to the SD card instead of the internal memory?

I just upgraded my sd card from the stock 2 Gb to an 8 Gb. Looking at the size from the pc the size reported is correct, just under 8 Gb formatted FAT32. When I look at the a Total Space in the phone it reports just over 7.5 Mb. Anybody know what I did wrong.I did copy the contents of the old card to the pc first, there were no partitions and then copied the data to the new card but the size is being reported incorrectly.

I've had a search around but I couldn't find an answer.If I format my SD card what exactly do I lose? I'm not too bothered about pictures and music because I can back them up, or apps either because I've never paid for one. So is it safe to just go ahead and format? It's the bog standard SD card that came with the phone.The reason I ask my SD card looks a little messy with installing and uninstalling apps that leave behind folders.

With 2.1 update fairly imminent, I thought I'd take the opportunity to upgrade my SD card to a 4gb or even 8gb. I have had my Hero since November and love it, but I noticed recently I have just about filled my 2gb card with data.So ... what is the process involved? Is it simply a case of connecting to my PC, creating a folder and dragging the lot >>> swapping the card in the phone >> then dragging it all back onto the new card?

I've always been a Nokia fan but S60 is falling just too far behind for me in 2009. I sold my Nokia E71 and bought a Malaysian Hero (they're not available in NZ) and flashed a rooted generic firmware onto it. Very happy with the phone overall.I have a question though, I'm getting a sim card notification on the top bar thing and a blank notification entry in the pull down list. Clicking it doesn't do anything. The manual doesn't say what this means and I've found another person on XDA-Developers with the same thing. They are with the same carrier as me, Vodafone NZ.

Got my hands on HTC hero yesterday,I am facing a problem,when I connect my phone to pc,a removable drive appears in my pc but its showing that there is no disk inserted,I have tried to check sd card settings,but there is no option of mounting it but there is a option to unmount it.

My mate decided to partition his SD card on his rooted hero , now it is only saying 5gb instead of 8gb, and he wants to take the partition off but for some reason he cant.He did say that the card isn't being recognized by his computer too , and he thinks he has lost all of his data too (Unless it is in the other 2gb) what is the best way if any to revert back to a unpartitioned SD card?

My PC will only read the microSD card (2GB one supplied with the phone) installed in my HTC Hero if I remove the card from the phone and plug it directly into the computer.
If I simply attach the USB cable, a 'D:' drive appears, but I get the error message "Please insert a disk into drive D".
I used the card as is, and did not 'format' it first; should I have done this?

I have the HTC Hero with cupcake (v1.5) software. I cannot browse the net using my sim card. I have tried changing the settings to use 2G and 3G. This sim card has been used on my previous mobile phone to browse the net with, yet on my sweet little hero it doesn't want to. Is there something I need to do first? (Like root the phone) One thing I have noticed is that when I select market (for example) it comes up wanting me to sign up or log into my gmail account? Is this "normal" behaviour? One other thing I need to add is this phone was bought brand new and it was not tied to a SP contract.

I've found the place in the settings "Set up sim card lock", and I assumed you just put a number in, but I did that and it said the number was wrong. I now have 2 attempts left, or so it says. How do you set up a lock so you have to input a number when you start the phone.

I got a 4gb memory card for my HTC Hero, I popped it in, etc etc... I went to download an attachment from an email, i selected "Save to SD card", the message popped up saying "Successfully Saved to SD Card". So I go to Quick Office and it says "No files were found on your SD Card" what's gone on here? I can see a picture I put on my SD card earlier on by going to "Albums" but i literally have no idea how to access other media I have stored on my SD card

My SIM card keeps "falling out" of the clip on the phone. The clip that keeps the SIM card held down occasionally "un clips", and the SIM card comes away from the place its supposed to be in, meaning I can't make calls or do anything that uses the SIM, so I have to take the battery out, press the clip back in and re-start the phone.

This is the card I was thinking of going with, Play.com (UK) - Mobile - Free Delivery But since I've never purchased anything like this before, just wanted to check this is the right thing.
