Im just wondering, I just got my hero not long ago from a person i know that has had it for a few weeks.Im looking at Upgrading my ROM software as from what I can tell I do not currently have the most updated software for my phone.Doing some reading on the HTC Website it said it will erase all user data, so im assuming that means contacts and stuff.Am I able to back up my Contacts myself ?

After reading through the threads I see that a few people have lost their contacts when the phone has rebooted or upgraded etc. So I would like to back them up. When I look in people-menu-view it shows that all my contacts are saved to my phone. They where saved to my Sim when I put it in so it must have done this by itself. What is the best way to back them up? In the import/export option I can export to SD card but I am a bit worried about pressing that encase its the wrong thing and I loose it all.

I tried forcing sync and everything, no go.I am looking for a program that will only backup my contacts , dont need anything else.
This is because im thinking of a factory wipe & installing custom roms, so a android backup wont do any good for me.Is there anything free available?
I have the Astro File Manager app. Can i back up my phone contacts using this program? I thought i had read somewhere that you could.

I want to back up my contacts and my text messages and be able to restore them.Some of my contacts are associated to phone instead of Gmail. I dont know how that happened or what I can do to associate them to Gmail. Ideally I would like to perform a back up for personal use instead of on google, and restore when ever I need it.
- How can I convert existing contacts from phone to Gmail status.
- How can I perform a back up and restore, independent of Gmail syncing.
- I used a back up tool to send my text messages as mail to Gmail. I am ok with that but would ideally want to restore the messages back to my phone too. Is it possible.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I switched to the Samsung Fascinate from a previous non-smart phone, I transferred all of my contacts from the phone over. I think in the setup somewhere I chose to convert my contacts to Google contacts. That was really confusing at first, because I didn't know what it did, and didn't even remember I had done that until recently. I'd like to get the contacts back to phone contacts (not Google contacts) for multiple reasons, which I won't bother listing for now. So, does anyone know how to UN-convert or re-convert Google contacts back into phone contacts? I really don't want to have to recreate all of the phone contacts, because I've got a LOT of them. I would remove my Google account from the phone, but I worry that would remove all of my contacts completely, which wouldn't help me.

The only thing that happened was Gmail sent all of the email addresses I've ever sent an email to to my phone. That is something i dislike. I have tried backing up my contacts using Lookout too. Nothing there either. If Google is supposed to automatically sync with the contacts, why aren't any of them there?

I've had my Magic for about 3 months now and I do like it a lot, but I want to back up my list of telephone contacts to the sim card so that in the event of a change of handset in the future, my contacts are safe and can be restored to another phone.I can import from the Sim card ok, but how do I do this in reverse? I got my replacement today and can't seem to get my contacts onto the new phone. The one thing that I have been able to find out is that I should have saved all of my contacts as Google contacts. I tried using Lookout and was able to transfer my pictures, but only 5 contacts (the only google contacts I have). I also tried MyBackUp but it is asking me for a pin number it never gave me. I downloaded vCardIO and exported my contacts to the sd card, but now when I put the sd card into the new phone it says that there is NOTHING on it, none of my documents- nothing. Is there any way I can change all my contacts to Google contacts? I don't know what else to do, so any help would be appreciated.
