Nov 8, 2009I'm the proud owner of an unlocked orange uk hero running on t mobile Austria network. I have heard that the newer heroes cant be unlocked because orange have made a deal with htc and changed the codes. I must have been lucky because mine unlocked no problem with the code received from the impel number. My question is if i update the Rom with the orange Rom version on the htc homepage will my phone become Sim locked again, and more worrying will i not be able to unlock it again when it has the new Rom on it?

Oct 29, 2010Today while sitting in class I got a msg on my htc hero saying eclair 2.1 is available to download and install and that it is recommended to do this ota update over a wifi connection....
So what did i do, I obviously waited till i got home and hoped on my wifi with my hero and waited for this message to pop up again..but no msg came
Im currently still running 1.5 and its not rooted yet(dont want to root it)
I also did some research and it said on the htc website that i have to wait another 7 days for this message to pop back up, and to manually check for an update u need to go to settings>about phone>check for update............but i dont have that option anywhere? ive gone through all of my settings and there is no option to check..

Sprint HTC Hero : Can't Upgrade To 1.56.651.2 - Firmware Update Always Reported No Update Available
Dec 2, 2009I went through all the troubleshooting steps in the "Update Available From Sprint" thread, making sure I was on v1.29.651.1, yada yada. Worked on this for a week and a half. Spoke with Sprint, spoke with HTC, no luck. Going to firmware update always reported NO UPDATE AVAILABLE.
Took the phone back to Best Buy and demanded an exchange. After receiving the new phone, went to try to firmware update, it showed that one was available. I asked for my old battery back since it was charged fully so that I could do the update. Put my old battery back in, went to update, NO UPDATE AVAILABLE!
Turns out it was my battery? Put the new one back in and the update was successful. I had scoured the net before but did not notice anyone with this particular issue. I
HTC Hero :: Need An Android Update?
Jul 18, 2010I'm new and haven't got a clue how any of these kinda things work so please bear with me! I have a HTC Hero which has the old Android software, hence blue tooth file transfer not working, inability to access other devices via blue tooth etc. I understand I require Android 2.1 in order to correct the problems with blue tooth, but how do I go about this? Is the software made available yet? I keep going to my network provider and the HTC website for advice but can't seem to get.

Aug 27, 2010Just checked my phone and had a message saying that an OTA update is ready to be downloaded and installed to my phone. Now I'm already running 2.1 on my hero (3 branded but I used the guide to get the unbranded 2.1 update so running a standard HTC rom) so I was a bit confused as to what this update is actually for, I've checked my phone and under firmware version it says "2.1 -update1" and the software number is "3.32.405.2" anybody got any ideas of what this update is actually for? is it a fix for something or some extra features that have been added?

My Question: How come the Sprint version of the Hero is able to receive a 2.1 android update ahead of the European GSM Version?

The Android 2.1 update for the European devices is scheduled to be release around the same time that the update is pushed to other Hero devices.

I am just letting all the other HTC Hero fans know. It is possible that the 2.1 update will be pushed out on April 9th with Sprints update. Who know? Jul 27, 2010My Hero won't start after applying the second upgrade, the 3.32 (the one containing android 2.1) the first one installed fine. The phone downloaded the update via WiFi and when I choose to install it, the phone rebooted and I saw the progress bar finishing, but afterwards I got an exclamation mark in a triangle, and the phone locked up. I then had to remove the battery to turn off the phone and apply the 2.73.405.6 ROM from HTC.com via fastboot usb.
The phone is fully charged, not rootet, and ive tried downgrading and upgrading it 3 times with the same result. I even called the HTC Hotline and got a hold in a nice female supporter whom was cleary not choosen for her technical skills, she didn't even know how to restore the phone via fastboot. She was also unable to answer why they didn't have a ROM (exe) installer for the 3.32 upgrade.

Sep 19, 2010So basically my girlfriend did an update of her Android OS today, installed, the phone restarted automatically, started loading something and the loading bar stayed at 3/4 for like 2hrs. Nov 18, 2010However... a few weeks ago I was having issues with the Market (downloads were freezing in the "installing" stage) so I "Uninstalled updates" in the Market application under "manage applications". When this happened, it reverted my market back to how it was pre the newer market update.
My question: does anyone know how I can manually update to the new market again? The phone did it automatically before, so now I don't know how to get the "new" market.
