View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there an application I could use to record both sides of a phone conversation with an HTC Hero? I don't have one yet (currently a blackberry user) but if one is available I'd be willing to make the switch. I'm a medical writer and need to record interviews and since I'm going to be on the road a lot in the near future, don't have access to landlines and the ability to use a conventional tape recorder.

View 8 Replies View RelatedThis is my first post although I have been reading this forum for awhile. I just went from a Moment (too big and bulky) to the Hero.
After searching and reading Im coming to the sad realization that the Bluetooth does not function correctly on the Hero? I just wanted to do a simple transfer of the contacts from my Instinct to the Hero? I dont want to use Google or any other email. Im surprised because there was no problem transferring my contacts from the Instinct to the Moment using Bluetooth. Both the Moment and the Hero have the same Android operating system so why is this happening?
I was wondering if there is an SMS activity log somewhere on the Hero / Android phone?
I could do with the telephone number of a text message I received but deleted without thinking!
If I could find a log then I could get the number? I'm not interested in the text itself, just the number from which it came.
I have just bought a hero. i want to copy my contacts from old phone to hero, i have a new sim i want to use without any contacts saved on it. Any suggestions?

View 5 Replies View RelatedFirst, can we change the phone to vibrate once instead of twice when receiving an SMS?
Also, is it possible to have the phone turn on its screen briefly when an SMS is received?
I'm talking about while using the native Messages app, not with chompSMS or Handcent.
I transferred contacts from my old phone (Samsung Instinct). One of the numbers was a voicemail for another location. On the Instinct you put in the numbers with a pause in the string which allowed you to delay entry of saved access codes until the right time. Is there a way to do this on the Hero?

I had the same problem with my hero, bought the replacement off of ebay, followed these instructions..and wasn't too complicated. The only tome I had any frustrations was getting the clips unhooked also removing the cracked piece from the super strong adhesive. Other than that piece o pie GL Taking apart the HTC Hero for Sprint (Android) Phone

When the 2.1 Android update is released, will I receive a pop-up message on my phone like people whose phones are under contract from Orange, etc? Secondly, the main reason I'd like this update is Google Navigation. I read somewhere this wont be available in the UK.

View 18 Replies View RelatedI have read a couple of threads that touched on this ring issue, but was unable to find any that had a solution or work around.Since the 2.1 update and the OTA update, many times when an incoming call comes, the phone doesn't ring. If I happen to be in front of the phone, I can see the screen change showing an incoming call.If I am listening to Pandora Radio, when the phone rings, Pandora stops, but the phone never rings. If I am not near or looking at the phone this results in missing the call.If I shut off the phone and re-boot it appears to ring fine, but at some point later in the day or week it will quit ringing.I normally never turn off the phone. Should I start to re-boot every day?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI just took delivery of my HTC Hero (T-Mobile G2 Touch) and its got so many toys, its unbelievable! However, after the initial honeymoon period, I decided it might be an idea to set the phone up for use as a phone. This is where the Hero is sadly lacking - I gave up on Nokia years ago because you needed to download apps to make the apps work, and it seems that HTC have taken on a few ex-Nokia employees as their design team. My main criticism is the exclusion of the most basic function of being able to set a custom sms tone. I'm not one of those that subscribe to the idea that connecting your phone to a pc and sifting through loads of files and folders called 'dit' 'dat' 'dot' 'com' and 'bollox' is any fun at all, and am a firm believer that ALL of these functions should be able to be accessed from the phone itself. Sure, a usb connection is useful, but should NOT be a necessity. With all that in mind, I found the following to be essential in turning a HTC Hero back into a phone.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm a Linux user, so the idea of rooting the phone is one of the many reasons I picked up this phone. However, I've been reading the forums and searching around, and have yet to find anything about rooting *from* Linux. Ubuntu and Fedora find the Hero beautifully; I've had better response mounting this than some portable hds I own. But has anyone successfully tried rooting any Android phone from a Linux OS? I'd really rather not install Windows just to do this. I imagine Wine might help, but there's got to be a better way to access Linux-to-Linux than using Windows.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy Hero won't start after applying the second upgrade, the 3.32 (the one containing android 2.1) the first one installed fine. The phone downloaded the update via WiFi and when I choose to install it, the phone rebooted and I saw the progress bar finishing, but afterwards I got an exclamation mark in a triangle, and the phone locked up. I then had to remove the battery to turn off the phone and apply the 2.73.405.6 ROM from HTC.com via fastboot usb.
The phone is fully charged, not rootet, and ive tried downgrading and upgrading it 3 times with the same result. I even called the HTC Hotline and got a hold in a nice female supporter whom was cleary not choosen for her technical skills, she didn't even know how to restore the phone via fastboot. She was also unable to answer why they didn't have a ROM (exe) installer for the 3.32 upgrade.
So basically my girlfriend did an update of her Android OS today, installed, the phone restarted automatically, started loading something and the loading bar stayed at 3/4 for like 2hrs. So she tried to turn it off using the button but didn't work so she took out the battery. Then after turning it on, the phone stays at the "Hero" homescreen and doesn't do anything. So I was thinking, is there a way to reinstall android on it? If so, where can I download the OS?

View 1 Replies View Relatedi last week took a HTC hero out on contract and switched from my iphone 3g, which i loved dearly reason being i wanted to use spotify to its full potential without having to shutdown etc.It's definately the best decision i ever took, i absolutely love the android platform and would recomend anyone else thinking of doing the same. A few question thought i have about the Hero;
1) battery life, seems pretty short? can i buy a better battery without having ot change the back cover? I like the idea of being able to carry a spare?
2)When on the internet/browser it always opens pages zoomed in, i find it pretty hard to use compared to the iphone, can i set it so that it open the page like a normal pc/iphone?
3)And how do i know i'm getting a 3g signal ?
4)Upgrade for Android? How do i get them? I read there is a better version but how do i upgrade it?
Is there a memorycard reader that you can olug into the usb-port on the HTC Hero phone? Lets say you are at holiday and all your friends has taken pictures with their digital cameras, you want the pictures. You take your small meorycard reader, plug the memory card from your friends camera into the reader and the reader into your phone and then copy over all the pictures.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure if anyone is able to answer this confidently, maybe those that have older unlocked Android phones can give some insight. I'm looking at buying an unlocked Hero from mobile phones direct.co.uk, whenever they start selling them. I'm only hesitant about what if any support I'd lose from not buying directly from a carrier. How do Android OTA updates work on unlocked phones? Also, can anyone speculate yet how HTC is going to be handling its updates? Will it push through the carriers? If I buy unlocked and get a contract through Voda phone (who is not officially carrying the phone) will I be the last one on the block to get my updates? Or will I need to root my phone and install them all myself?
