Nov 29, 2009I would like to know where the Google contacts that i have on my phone are actually stored. Are they on the phones internal memory or on the phones memory?

View 3 RepliesI am syncing my contacts with Exchange. My contacts within Exchange are proper - everything looks good within my Outlook contacts, and they sync fine to my phone.
However when someone calls me that is stored within my phone, their name comes across as Unknown. Anyone have any ideas how to get my phone to handle contacts better?
Does anyone know how to decrypt a stored google password on an HTC Hero?
My bro forgot his google password. The secondary email is completely defunct. The security question is completely incomprehensible. He even filled out the form to convince google that he is who he says he is... no dice.
The ONLY place the password is stored is his HTC Hero, as a saved gmail password.
My question is... is there a way to export, decrypt, or recover his gmail password on his Hero?
Can someone tell me if it is possible, to change my now phone contacts on Hero, to google contacts, so i can save all my contacts on my googlemail account.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a main Google account under my own domain. I spent ages getting all my contact details - Google contacts was only email addresses, I also had SIM numbers, phone numbers and proper address book in Palm Desktop. I finally managed to get it all into Google contacts and even merge all the doubles (lots and lots). Only to find out that the Google contacts being synced was not the one for my main Google mail account (under Google apps).
1) what account is being synced?
2) is there any other way to restore my windows contacts/phone numbers (HTC sync won't work :-(
3) does anyone actually understand exactly what my Hero is doing with the various sources of contacts?
Can any one help with the following problem. I'd really appreciate it. This phone, as promising as it is, keeps giving me head-aches.On my HTC Hero all my contacts (they are all "Google" contacts) are duplicate. I deleted all contacts from GMail (they were NOT duplicate on GMail), have seen my HTC resyncing my contacts various times since (while in the Settings->Data Sync->Google Menu), but all 2000+ contacts remain in my phone.Obviously, I'm just trying to delete duplicates (why they suddenly appeared I do not know), but at the moment my phone seem not to sync at all.Can any one tell me how to delete ALL Contacts from my phone and then resync (after I reimport my GMail contacts)? Is there no other way to select each of my almost 3000 contacts manually to delete?

View 3 Replies View RelatedRecently I updated my HTC G2 OS to Android 2.2. I couldn't find the contacts in my contacts List. But I'm sure the contacts are stored somewhere in the phone. Is this a bug or something else?
View 3 Replies View RelatedInitially I setup Exchange active sync, but contacts wouldn't sync and I had to use HTC sync to manually sync them. Recently, after a root/froyo upgrade, they would sync via active sync. I used the "People" app as my main contacts list.
All was working fine up until last night when I was playing around with security settings and went into the Device Administrators section. I canceled back through the screens but it still deleted my Exchange account.....I'm 99.9999% certain that I canceled that screen. Ok, no harm done, I managed to set it up again.
On syncing the Exchange active sync the first time, all of my calendar items doubled up, so I manually cleared them and manually cleared my contacts also (just to be safe).
The next Exchange active sync worked for my mail and calendar but failed for some reason for contacts. This did start syncing later, but didn't appear to do anything.
My "People" app showed no contacts. Not long later, some contacts showed up, but surprisingly, they were my family contacts. I don't know where they came from. They are not on the SIM (the SIM doesn't contain any contacts). Currently my "View" for People shows:
SIM (9) - unticked
Google (0) - ticked
Show auto Gmail contacts - ticked
Phone (0) - unticked
Facebook for HTC Sense (139) - unticked
Based on these settings, no contacts should show in People.
The "Contacts" app shows the same family contacts, but also a couple of extras that were added to the "Favourites" group.
Now the really confusing part is: the "Search People" app has ALL of my lost contacts. They also all appear when I start the "Phone".
I also added a new contact, but it didn't show in "People". It does appear in the "Search People" though. I think it may have been synced to Exchange.
So can anyone help with with finding where they are stored? They are clearly on the phone. How can I get these contacts to appear in my People app again?
When I put my sim card into my phone when I bought it, it has only displayed around 7 of my 60+ contacts which were stored on my sim. I have tried managing this on HTC Sense, but like everyone else most of the features are not working for me. I do not however have any idea how to delete the contats off my sim or just change settings to make sure my sim contacts are not displayed in my contact list.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI just joined the world of smart phones and I'm loving my HTC Hero and the Android platform but I'm not understanding all the contacts. I've never been one to keep a very neat & tidy Google contact book (though, I guess it's about time to start), so I'm noticing that now that I've synced my phone with my Google account, I have TONS upon TONS of contacts -- many of which I don't even want in my phone. Obviously, the phone has added my G mail contacts. So now, as I'm adding everyone's phone numbers (something I never kept in G mail), I'm added it to their Google Contacts listing. Is that the best way to do it? I've read a few posts about the topic and I see a lot from people who are previous smart phone users, but what about us newbies? So my question: Is there a way to make it so Google syncs everything *but* my Google Address Book, allowing me to only have my phone's contact list? What about hiding some contacts? If not, what are your suggestions for managing your Google contacts.

I tried forcing sync and everything, no go.I am looking for a program that will only backup my contacts , dont need anything else.
This is because im thinking of a factory wipe & installing custom roms, so a android backup wont do any good for me.Is there anything free available?
I just got my Hero. I used HTC sync to sync my calendar/contacts with outlook. Outlook has previously been synced with Gmail. Now I have a ton of duplicate contacts. Obviously I shouldn't have synced contacts from Outlook and just let them sync from Google. Is there any easy way to fix this and get rid of all the Outlook contacts?
View 8 Replies View RelatedJust got my greasy hands on a HTC Hero and loving it. I have used HTC to transfer my Outlook contacts to the phone as a one-off but even though I have "Sync Contacts" enabled (Home->Settings->Data Sync->Google->Contacts) on the phone I don't see these contact details when I log into Gmail on my Win PC and click contacts? Incidentally my calendar syncs from Hero to Gmail/calendar perfectly.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThere have been a lot of threads on this issue but I have 2 additional queries which I have not seen noted before. Firstly, why when I have set up my Gmail contacts on my computer into 8 groups do only 4 groups appear on my phone after synching? Secondly, is there anyway that the Google contacts can be rearranged so that the surname comes first - this can be done for phone contacts but does not appear possible for Google contacts?
