I have created a new group to add some contacts, However when I try to add a contact there is nobody in the list. I have contacts but there stored on SIM. How do I get them to show up?

New to android and really like it. However, seems like the maintenance of contacts is a common source of confusion. I have contacts from my Gmail displayed. I have a created a group of contacts that I have been able to add contacts to. However, not all contacts are available to be added to this group.
Under the general contacts page, all the contacts are there (including many imported from gmail that I don't care for since every email that has ever been used seems to be saved). When I go to edit the group and add a contact, not all the contacts are displayed as available to add. I have gone into my gmail contact list and made sure that the contact I want to add is listed under the "my contacts" heading.
I am having a problem using the Groups option in my Contacts app.When I try to add members, only three of my many contacts are displayed. I have tried to figure out why these three contacts are being filtered out but they do not seem to have anything particular in common. How can I get all my contacts to display when adding to Groups?

From within 'contacts' i hit the 'display options' then selecting the email account I see the drop down for system contact groups-friends, family, coworkers. I am wondering if there is any way to create additional contact types or groups? As in I have a specific group of contacts from one website I want to add to a group--can you create a contact type or contact group?? I can't find the option when adding a new contact or when within the display options as mentioned before.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI want to add a contact just to my phone and not to my gmail account.Whenever I start to add a contact (phone, 208544.menu, +contact, create new contact,) the next thing it forces me to do is to choose an account to create the new contact under and it lists my 3 gmail accounts.I have no option to just put it on the phone.Any ideas here?We do the same thing on the Incredible but it gives us the gmail account and the phone to choose from but not on the Motorola.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe similar threads didnt seem to hold the answers to this particular problem so here goes ive upgraded from a Bold 9000 and when tried to transfer data via Bluetooth it kept failing so i had to store all my contacts to sim and then insert sim into DHD when its done this it appears to have cut some letters of the end of some names and ont allow me to edit them to extend the names.
View 3 Replies View RelatedInitially I setup Exchange active sync, but contacts wouldn't sync and I had to use HTC sync to manually sync them. Recently, after a root/froyo upgrade, they would sync via active sync. I used the "People" app as my main contacts list.
All was working fine up until last night when I was playing around with security settings and went into the Device Administrators section. I canceled back through the screens but it still deleted my Exchange account.....I'm 99.9999% certain that I canceled that screen. Ok, no harm done, I managed to set it up again.
On syncing the Exchange active sync the first time, all of my calendar items doubled up, so I manually cleared them and manually cleared my contacts also (just to be safe).
The next Exchange active sync worked for my mail and calendar but failed for some reason for contacts. This did start syncing later, but didn't appear to do anything.
My "People" app showed no contacts. Not long later, some contacts showed up, but surprisingly, they were my family contacts. I don't know where they came from. They are not on the SIM (the SIM doesn't contain any contacts). Currently my "View" for People shows:
SIM (9) - unticked
Google (0) - ticked
Show auto Gmail contacts - ticked
Phone (0) - unticked
Facebook for HTC Sense (139) - unticked
Based on these settings, no contacts should show in People.
The "Contacts" app shows the same family contacts, but also a couple of extras that were added to the "Favourites" group.
Now the really confusing part is: the "Search People" app has ALL of my lost contacts. They also all appear when I start the "Phone".
I also added a new contact, but it didn't show in "People". It does appear in the "Search People" though. I think it may have been synced to Exchange.
So can anyone help with with finding where they are stored? They are clearly on the phone. How can I get these contacts to appear in my People app again?
When I put my sim card into my phone when I bought it, it has only displayed around 7 of my 60+ contacts which were stored on my sim. I have tried managing this on HTC Sense, but like everyone else most of the features are not working for me. I do not however have any idea how to delete the contats off my sim or just change settings to make sure my sim contacts are not displayed in my contact list.

The order of the messages stored is not as it should be...my sent message(First sent) is stored after the received one(later received)..I have tried putting my own time instead of the automatic network time still the problem continues..
View 14 Replies View RelatedIve not found any specific in depth instructions with my phone so here goes my question...I have managed to sync al my email gmail facebook and phone contacts to my handset, I want to put my contacts (mainly phone numbers) into groups so its easier to group SMS people etc, when i try to add contacts to a group it only seems to come up with my Gmail added Email addresses, i have gone into the relevant menu and selected display phone contacts only (or something similar) and re tried but still i am getting just my Gmail addresses as the only option to add to groups. View 6 Replies View RelatedI've got a Galaxy S and am really pleased with the phone generally except the contact management is really frustrating. In particular I can't seem to sync my Google contacts groups. The contacts themselves sync ok but they are all grouped under Google in the groups dialogue. There doesn't seem to be any way for me to add them to groups I create on the device or to get the groups that are in my Google contacts to display. Annoyingly if I try to create a group on the device with the same name as a group in my Google contacts it tells me that a group of that name already exists even though it won't display that group on the phone.

Most group names that came with phone don't work for me. Anyone using an app to give more customization of groups and contacts that will sync up the same as stock app.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have searched but I wanted to ask specific to DX to make sure I wasn't missing something simple. Google Contact Groups don't appear in my contacts on the DX regardless of sync. One of the group names I created did transfer over and Organization name.
I cannot sort the contracts by group on my phone. I either have all or none. Did I do something wrong (most likely yes, this was much easier in the BB world)? Am I missing a step, this appears to be a problem on all Android OS. So do I need an app to fix this?
How come the groups tab of Contacts on this phone ignores your google groups completely? That makes the contacts pretty much useless to me. I have over 700 contacts and they're all grouped nice and neatly, but that doesn't seem to matter. Any way to merge the phone groups with the google accounts groups?
