HTC Hero :: HTC Sync Deleting Outlook Contacts
Jan 20, 2010I got HTC Sync set-up to sync up my outlook calendar and contacts. ran it through, and other than truncating address fields to 25 chars, it all worked fine. But then I ran it again, to cehck it was all ok giong forwards (ie expecting no updates), and it:Deleted 32 of my 200 contacts (seemingly at random) from Outlook - left them on the phone. If I manually replace them oon Outlook then duplicates are created on the phone on next sync. Altered 3 recurring appointments (birthdays, 3 out of about 40 in my calendar) in Outlook so that instead of running from midnight to midnight (ie all day events) they run from 23:00 to 23:00, and hence show up over two days. Claimed to have updated a handful more contacts, though I can't see what may have changed. how to avoid? Number 2 is particularly odd. I'm guessing it's something to do with daylight saving, but why only 3 of 40? I've checked the settings against other non-affected appointments, and can see no difference!

Jul 14, 2010I am sick and tired of deleting duplicate entries in contacts and calendar. There is no rhyme or reason. I get some contacts duplicated numerous times. I get duplicate appointments and my new ones refuse to link to the PC. I have tried everthing that two weeks of constant googling can come up with. I am sooooooo GD sorry that I purchased this POS phone and from my point of view the Android system is also a POS.
Next time I am going to finally bite the bullet and get an iPhone.
If anyone has something new please let me know what to do. I have deleted ALL contacts in Google. I have deleted ALL duplicate contacts at least a dozen times. The stupid system still adds, at random, duplicate contacts and tasks. The stupid phone has even linked contacts with no reason or input from me. The calendar has put holidays in numerous dates. Columbus day was in the calendar seven times when I did the last cleanup (I have done 3 seperate cleanups today alone). Independence day was put on both July 4th and 5th. When I deleted it from the 5th it disappeared altogether. I thought my old Palm Treo was bad.

Basically when you press on PHONE and the dialer with the keypad and the contacts/call history shows up. Basically, that screen have my FACEBOOK contacts and my PEOPLE contacts. And because of that I have like 1200 contacts...some I dont even talk to like that and some dont even have phone numbers but its there. I dont know how to get rid some of it. Sep 20, 2010When i got my new phone, all the contacts were transferred over from my previous phone. I also have all my contacts in Google. When Google sync'd to the phone it created a duplicate of all the contacts. Is there a way to delete all the phone contacts so that all i have is the google contacts, which is what i use as the "master".
I know i can reset the phone to factory defaults but i have a lot of apps, music and pictures on there that i would prefer to not have to try and backup and reload.

I had my contacts connected to my gmail, then decided to see if I could put them on the sim and still use a picture for them (protip, you can't :P) then I decided to go back to [g] contacts and thus would need to just delete the ones on the sim else I'd have multiple ones.
So off I trot, hold down for the context menu, hit delete and then BAM "Failed" er...what? I'm not allowed to delete my own contacts if they're on the sim card?! What, do I have to mount it to the pc and go looking for them or something? That's ridiculous if so, I'm hoping I'm just missing something obvious...

Nov 17, 2009 When I set my phone up it loaded every singe contact from my GMAIL contacts onto my phone. I don't necessarily want all of these clogging up my phone, but when I go to delete them from my phone they also get deleted from my contact list in GMAIL. Also the same with emails. Aug 20, 2012Having an issue where anytime I try to add a new contact manually for a new phone number or create it using the "create new contact" feature via an old text message by that phone number's owner, my phone automatically deletes it within seconds. This happens only when the sync settings under settings-->accounts & sync-->background information are enabled. The new contact gets deleted regardless whether I add the new contact BEFORE enabling sync or whether I add it WHILE sync is enabled.
