I have been a Sprint customer for a very long time. My wife and I both have smartphones and we have the Unlimited 1500 plan. To my knowledge, this includes everything (excluding International calls.....which I know for a fact thanks to an $1800 fraud that was on my bill 2 months ago). I digress, data roaming is included as a part of this plan as far as I know.
I checked my bill online yesterday, and there was an alert that I have used 3800+KB of data roaming.
Now....let me start by saying, yes, I do have the setting checked to allow for data roaming (as to my knowledge, it's included in my plan). I do have the Hero (my second one) and for the life of me, I can't figure out why it goes into roaming mode more than any other Sprint phone I've ever owned. My wife's phone could be sitting next to mine, and I'll be roaming while she is not. That being said, I can guarantee there have been instances where I've roamed and pulled down data (checking email, automatically checking weather/facebook/twitter/etc, internet) and I've never seen this alert on my account.
I called Sprint last night to question it, and they put a $20 service credit on my account. That's all fine and great, as I'm not going to turn down free money, but I had explained that my concern was that the alert is showing up to begin with. I even explained that while I appreciate the credit, I'd rather just have this situation resolved so that I don't have to call back next month if these charges appear.
My question is this, has anyone ever seen this before? I am rooted, I am running Fresh 2.1.1 and I have the latest SPRINT radio flashed from Flipz' website. I have had this setup for a little over 2 months now, so this isn't the first billing cycle that this setup has seen. I can't figure this out for the life of me.
If this continues to be a problem, it's either going to require a new device or a new carrier. I live in a very populated western suburb in Chicagoland and have NEVER had a problem with roaming or poor signal until I got the Hero in October.

I'm heading up North with my new X and want to reduce the VZW data roaming charges in Canada as much as possible, but without losing or reducing my Exchange email service.
I will:
cut back on unnecessary browsing.
stop downloading videos!
turn off background data.
turn off HTML for emails.
use Wi-Fi when possible.
turn off GPS.
Is this the right approach? Any suggestions on other uses or apps to avoid?

I am sending my HTC Hero (Orange UK) back to HTC for them to tinker with it as it has had absolutely terrible reception for pretty much the entire time that i have owned it.
I had been waiting with each new OS to see if the problem would be fixed. The problem is that the signal fluctuates wildly without manipulating the phone, it will cut out whilst i am on the phone and just resting it on a table it will lose signal for perhaps a few minutes each half hour.
Spoke to Orange on the phone and they said to send it in for repairs to HTC.
Now, my phone has a two cosmetic bumps on it - one graze on the top corner and a tiny gouge on the bottom corner. These are purely cosmetic and I am sure that these have nothing to do with the problem, as it existed before those accidents.
I guess what I am looking for are your experiences with HTC repairs - are they the sort of firm who look for any excuse to claim that you caused the damage and void your warranty?
If they do claim that the signal problem is my fault, is the burden on me to prove that I did not cause it, or them to prove that I did?

My battery charges 2x faster now than before the update last week. Today I when I got off work, my battery was at 30% (lots of usage during and work in a plant). I put my phone on the charger at 5:30 pm. It's now 6:34 pm and my battery is at 98% charged. I'm using the standard charge provided by HTC.

Indeed HTC is working on a fix for these issues, but here is what You can do to fix the application in the mean time. I was getting 2 hours "Heavy" (texting, data, wifi, high brightness) use before.I read somewhere that there it is a battery issue caused by the defaul HTC (or android, idk) application. The work around is for sms to something other than the included app as the default action for text messaging. This is accomplished installing another handcent sms or various other apps that you may find by going to the market and searching SMS.After installation go to the contacts list and send a text to a contact.A screen should pop up and ask which messaging app you would like to use. If i does not ask you, then you should go to Settings> Applications> Manage Applications> It will take a minute while your phone computes the space taken up by each app.Click Messages> and Tick Clear defaults if it is available. Viola! substantial battery boost and faster charges.you can verify that your phone is now using less power by rebooting then shut of your screen by pressing the end key wait for 1-5 mins mins without touching it now quickly settings> about phone> status all the way at the bottom your phones "Awake Time" (not up time) should be below %40 (mine is between 10-40%) day to day if this is not the case your phone has other issues and I will try my best to help you out
I have also heard that by letting you device go to sleep immidiately after turning it on it enters a weird device state that causes %100 cpu usage. though i cannot confirm this i always flip to the next screen and back a few times and check my twitter and what not to make sure.

I am wondering how many Bump Charges do you all do? I saw a post saying 3 times, and I did 3 times, but the fourth time, I am still not fully charged because the LED light still RED after I turn the phone off and plug the USB charger in.Another concern is that, people mentioned this is a software issue, but I am bump charging the phone while it is OFF, so wouldn't this being a software issue since I do not have the phone turned ON?

Is there an app/widget which functions like a SMS text but uses data?I don't text much, mostly my own family. I am looking for an app which we can use like text but doesn't cost $0.20 each time. Is there an IM program which rings or alerts on the phone like an incoming text?

I have a Droid X with Verizon. If I enable the GPS and use GPS enabled apps, such as Google Maps, etc., am I charged by Verizon for this? Or is the Verizon Navigator the only GPS app that Verizon charges for? (i.e. does Verizon charge for the use of the GPS across the board, or only for the use of their GPS app?)

I forget my original charger at home so i got a new one from at&t (didn't find t-mobile), generic one, with the same connector and the guy from the store said it will work fine with captivate (that should be the same as the Vibrant). when i tried to use it, it charged my phone but the whole interface was laggy and didn't get half of my touch pressing (the other half did something else like pressing the wrong spot).
anyway i thought its a bad charger so i get a new one from RadioShack... that do the SAME problem.
then i tried some electric shop that told me theres a difference between this chargers and i need to get the Palm Pre charger and not Motorola/BlackBerry, but still both of them did the same problem (again, all of this stores got only third-party "generic" chargers and not originals). anyway i got home and charged with the original usb wall adapter and usb cable that came in the box.

If I did not get the monthly Hotspot charge when i signed up and did use the hotspot for an emergency connection, what is Verizons rate on that? All I can find on their site is what the per MB charge after the %GB you get with the monthly hotspot plan.
Once I get more comfortable with it, I'll root and would not have this worry. But for now, I'd like to know what it would cost as a pay per use charge?

When she tries to send a picture it says "Converting message to MMS" (I told her that was normal lol) "Charges may apply."...THIS part, the "Charges may apply" part, is the part I am stuck on. I've never seen this on mine. We have the same plan I think, unlimited texting and calling and such...she is sending the picture to a Verizon phone...I mean I told her it is probably just a "btw, it COULD charge you" sorta thing and that it more than likely won't.

I looked for a while on this because I'm sure someone else already asked it but does your droid charge super slow on every single charger besides the one it came with?
No matter which charger I use (besides the stock one) it charges incredibly slow. Hooked up to my computer, other wall chargers and the slowest one is my car charger. I even have a couple wall chargers that just straight up make my phone start doing weird stuff. Like I'm randomly hitting things on the screen.

Just got my Motorola Droid about 9 hours ago, and as soon as I got home I plugged it in, since it had roughly 60% charge. It has been plugged in since then, and has said "Charging (90%)" on the lock screen ever since, and the about screen confirms that the battery is charged to 90%.
I searched all over, but it appears no one else is having this issue. Should I return to Best Buy (I hate them, but I'd rather go there than wait for a mail in rebate, or for the phone to ship) and get a replacement?

I put the phone on the charger right before I went to bed (11 PM), and by 12:30 AM when I went to settings and checked the status it said it was 100%, I decided to leave it on the charger anyway cause I have been getting really bad battery life and this morning when I woke up at 7 AM the phone was down to 70% but charging and hit 100% by 8 AM.
What I don't understand is why did the battery charge to 100% and then use the battery when it was still connected to the charger? Shouldn't it just stay at 100%?
In addition, when I took the phone off the charger at 8 AM and it was 100%, the phone died by 2 PM, and I only sent about 20 text messages.

I've downloaded an app called Google Sky Map. Will using this incur charges? I don't understand how all this works. In general, is there a way of telling what charges the use of an app will incur (ruling out the use of android-intuition and/or common sense)?

I always have my phone plugged in over night, and one night I noticed that the screen came on for no reason, stayed on for a few seconds, and then went off. It did it a few times off and on. I thought it was a little weird, but didn't think too much about it, until just now.
I'm sitting next to my phone, plugged in, and the screen comes on again for no reason. It had been plugged in for awhile then, and when the screen lit up, I happened to glance at the battery status bar, and noticed that it did not show that it was plugged in. Now, maybe 30 min later, the battery bar shows that it is plugged in and full.
Could my Inc be self-bump charging? My phone is so new that it came with Froyo on it already (unless the Verizon guy downloaded it when he set the phone up)
Has anyone else noticed this at all? I've always had good battery life... I can usually make it through the whole day without hitting orange (12 hours+), with plenty of texting, some youtube videos, facebook, Daily(comic)Strip, and checking email and weather, plus Angry Birds. And I've never really bump charged.

Does anyone know/have experience with avoiding int'l roaming charges? I called verizon and the rep said that I would roam anytime my phone is on, and that I would incur charges, which is NOT what I want. I don't need 3G or any other type of phone or data connection associated with the network. All I want to be able to do is use Fring/skype/googlevoice through a WiFi connection. I've been reading and am getting confused with all this 'APN' on/off stuff. Can't I just put the phone in airport mode and connect to WiFi through my DINC?
