Mar 4, 2010This is driving me insane. When I setup my Hero I had to setup a gmail account, even though I have a Google Account. I setup a gmail account to get the phone setup. I now want to make my gmail account something that makes a little more sense to me. I am not using my gmail account but apparently it shows on Google Latitude to my friends, etc. My question is how does one unlink a gmail account and add a new one? When I go to my Google Accounts to delete gmail it says it will take about 2 days. I wait 2 days and nothing happens. If I attempt to add Gmail back to my Google Account is hows my old address and will not allow me to create a new one. Is it not possible to change the linked gmail address to your google account??

Jul 23, 2010I had to have a factory reset a couple of weeks ago and did not realize at the time that it made a difference which Gmail account was entered first. I really need to set a different account as the 'primary', but the only option for doing this seems to be another factory reset which will be a real PITA since I just got everything reloaded and the phone is running pretty well. I saw some instructions on another part of this forum which said that you could delete the data from Google Apps, but that is not an option and the other options (e.g., clear cache) are dimmed.

Dec 18, 2013I just created a gmail account/profile and i wanted to use this new account in my existing Samsung S4 which i have login with another gmail account.I manage to remove the old account ID and login with the new ID, all sync was done. BUT i found that some of my existing contact is without name but having the phone number and i am not sure if there is any missing contacts?
Then I retry to login with the old ID and the contacts details came back to normal with one or two without the names.

Oct 18, 2010i'm new here and just recently deleted my gmail account from my computer and it was the same one that was associated with my HTC Hero and now i can't go into the android market because of it. My phone has been disconnected since i havent been able to pay the bill but i'm still able to browse the internet and play games that i had downloaded from the market that require internet using the wifi connection. I created a new gmail account on my computer and i have tried to the add account on my phone using but every time is says connecting i get an error saying that they we'rent able to establish a connection to the server. Jul 24, 2010I wanted to connect my hero with a new gmail account that i have set up, so i search the web to find out how to remove the current gmail account that i had set up and replace it for a new one.
The solution i found was to clear the gmail app data (under settings/app management). After doing this, the phone asked me to enter a new gamil account.
The problem is that now, when i try to do this every time it tells me that it cant find a realiable network connection when trying to register the new account details with google.
I have searched around and have seen that many people had this problem. Its like the phone does not even try to communicate with google now!! Solutions range from using wifi network, using static ip to making sure you have full edge network etc.
I have tried them all to no avail. The last thing i want to do is a factory reset, but it appears thats my last solution.
Does anyone know how i can solve this problem with out a factory reset? i cant believe android does not support changing gmail account without a factory reset!

Mar 19, 2010I recently had my phone replaced due to the dust under the screen issue. When I set up my new (refurb) phone with my gmail account, I had tons of contacts in my phone that I had never seen before. The girl at sprint said it imports all of my email contacts, and it looked like they had added contacts from email addresses I had only emailed once, that werent even in my contacts group on my email. They ended up wiping my contacts and transferring them over from my old hero. She said I should create a new gmail account, and use it ONLY for syncing my contacts, that way I dont get all the other email contacts in my phone also. Im wondering how I do this, because I want to set it up before 2.1 comes out for the hero, so when I upgrade to 2.1, I wont have the same issue.

May 20, 2010I have tried to get to the bottom of this problem a few different ways, but haven't had any luck and haven't found it in any other threads. The issue is that after the 2.1 update my gmail will not sync to the phone. I have gone to Settings < Accounts & Sync < Google and found that Contacts, Gmail, and Calendar are all set to sync but while Contacts and Calendars have recent times for their latest sync Gmail is always the same. I have unchecked/rechecked the Sync Gmail toggle to get the sync going and the arrows spin but it never updates. I have also tried to refresh from the Gmail app itself with no luck and logged into a Wifi connection to see if it would work over something other than the mobile network still no luck. I have also rebooted several times with this seeming to work to resync Gmail only once and not in the last couple of tries. I do have Advanced Task Killer and have used it to close down a few programs including the browser. This never had any affect in 1.5 but just wanted to make sure a new problem couldn't have come from that.
