General :: HD2 Running Android Won't Delete Primary Gmail Account
Oct 30, 2010I'd like to sell my HD2 running Android. However I cannot get it to reset the gmail account that I entered on it. These are things I've tried. Its a windows based hd2 running android so the correct section was a little confusing. Also I didn't flash it and of course the person that did isn't around compounding the issue. I need to maintain the flash but if I can't I can't .
1. data reset, several times
2. deleting the account ( I get an error saying, " This account is required by some applications. You can only remove it by resetting the phone to factory defaults").
3. Going in and clearing "google apps" which doesn't exist.

Jul 22, 2010I'm trying to add the primary Gmail account to my new Milestone with 2.1.I tried all the three ways that requires you to add such account as a 1st step:
- Through the "Gmail" button.
- Through the "Market" button.
- Through "Settings > Accounts & sync > Add account > Google" And I tried both via WiFi and via 3G.

Jul 23, 2010I had to have a factory reset a couple of weeks ago and did not realize at the time that it made a difference which Gmail account was entered first. I really need to set a different account as the 'primary', but the only option for doing this seems to be another factory reset which will be a real PITA since I just got everything reloaded and the phone is running pretty well. I saw some instructions on another part of this forum which said that you could delete the data from Google Apps, but that is not an option and the other options (e.g., clear cache) are dimmed.

Jul 21, 2010I have a Samsung Moment, that is running the stock Android 2.1 system released by Sprint. I signed up for a Gmail account when I got the phone. I also run my own domain, and have just migrated my domain's email and calendar to Google Apps. I would like to set my phone up to sync everything from my Google Apps account rather than the random Gmail account I signed up for when I got the phone. Is there any way to achieve this without doing a Factory Data Reset? I am willing to do the Factory Data Reset if I have to, but if I need to go through that process, are there any procedures I should follow to backup important data before hand? Also, will the reset take me back to 1.5?

Apr 24, 2010I have read the threads that come with putting in the title above, but I have a special question.Does anyone know of a procedure that I can go through to not only change my primary Google account on my DROID but also have it transfer bought app info from the old account to the new account?I have bought well over $10 worth of apps, an I would like them associated with the account through my domain as opposed to my current account (just a regular GMail address).Any ideas here? Or is what I remember reading in the past still true - bought apps are locked to one account and cannot be changed?

I thought this would be fairly simple but it turns out it isnt. From my searches people say you have to reset the phone. I would really like not to do this. I saw this on the G1 forum
Settings>Manage Applications>Gmail and then hit clear data to delete the e-mail address. Next time you open the app it asks you for your login, which would be your new email address.

I've been searching around -- most people have said to just do a factory reset. However, I found this discussion about changing it on a G1 How to change the primary gmail account on android g1 tmobile phone - 611Connect Blog | Cell Phone Reviews, New Cell Phones, Cell Phone How Toand was wondering if the same solution that "Dac@ Android Developer" provides would work on the Droid with 2.0. His solution was:
1. Setting > Application > Manage Application > Clear Data from Google Storage
2. Re-create GMail shortcut
Apparently this worked great for people with G1s. Am I missing something...or will these instructions just not work with 2.0?

Nov 21, 2010I know that it's possible to determine the data connection type (WIFI/or cellular) through Android, but is it possible to determine the cellular connection type and strength?
I have an app that downloads some images and I have found that on GPRS or on 3G with weak signal that this download process slows up the app unacceptably. What I want to do is say that if you have either WIFI or a strong and fast data connection then download; otherwise display a default placeholder image.

Aug 19, 2010Droid X - Configured with a Google Apps Premiere, working great. Attempting to add a personal GMail account. Go to the GMail app, select add account, fill in the metrics and then...... "Needs to communicate" message for ~ 3 minutes, then bombs out with - "Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server". 3G is fine, on a wifi connection that is fine, web browser works fine..... Google Apps account works fine.

I also have a gmail account that just forwards all email to apps. But my picasa and googleTalk are on the gmail account. I don't know what account to make my primary and am looking for some guidance. Is it easy to switch back and forth? I prefer my apps account for contacts etc but I think I will like the googletalk and other aspects of a vanilla gmail account.

Oct 11, 2010Earlier today my phone lost both of my email accounts (exchange and gmail). This seems to be a common issue with no solution from what I've read. In order to get my email accounts to work again, I have to delete the accounts and then set them up again (the accounts are still in my phone, but they don't work). Mar 4, 2010This is driving me insane. When I setup my Hero I had to setup a gmail account, even though I have a Google Account. I setup a gmail account to get the phone setup. I now want to make my gmail account something that makes a little more sense to me. I am not using my gmail account but apparently it shows on Google Latitude to my friends, etc. My question is how does one unlink a gmail account and add a new one? When I go to my Google Accounts to delete gmail it says it will take about 2 days. I wait 2 days and nothing happens. If I attempt to add Gmail back to my Google Account is hows my old address and will not allow me to create a new one. Is it not possible to change the linked gmail address to your google account??

I want to use my gmail account from my phone and have all emails sync on my device. But I do not want to sync my gmail contacts with my "local" contacts (local being the contacts stored on my phone). I only want to sync my emails.
I read on another web site that one guy managed to sync his Outlook contacts with his Android phone contacts, but once he started to configure his gmail account, all his local contacts were automatically saved in his gmail account, and vice versa. Is there a way to use gmail with only emails sync, and without contacts sync? I prefer to be sure that it is possible (and know how to do it) before starting to use gmail on the phone. My Outlook contacts contain lots of professional contacts that I do not want to see in my private gmail account.

I am considering an Android device (one of the ones on the Rogers network in Canada - and yes I am aware of the "they're all on 1.5 with a chance that they will never be updated" issue) but have some uncertainties. From what I have read, I can use the HTC Sync app bundled with the Magic/Dream to get my Outlook (pst) contacts into a Gmail account (which is the primary repository for all PIM info in Android, right?) and then the Google Calendar sync to get my Outlook (again, pst) calendar events. Super. Completely understand that (assuming what I said was right).I've also read (repeatedly) about how you can only have one gmail account in the mail application. I can tolerate that (don't like it, but can live with it). However, if my understanding is correct, Android comes with a Mozilla HTML browser, right? If I opened that and went to http://mail.google.com/ would it open the primary gmail account (the one the phone is linked to) or would it prompt for user/password? Further, if it does autologin, what if I clicked the sign out link and logged in as a different user? Would the phone go "kerpluey"? To be clear, I'm not expecting Android to sync ANYTHING from this other account; just wondering if I could access (read/respond) the gmail via the web browser. (Example: we're out and my wife wants to look up something in her gmail account using my Android smartphone is that possible?)Also, I read about some people discussing the installation of a second instance of the gmail app to get multiple account support. Is that even possible on 1.5? What would it do to things like contacts?
