HTC Hero :: Can't Turn Off Wi-fi / Way To Do

I'm trying to see if my Maverick GPS app will work without any internet connection (just cached maps), for a planned trip abroad where I'm trying to avoid internet roaming fees, but no matter how hard I try, I can;t seem to get the wi-fi on my phone to stay off. I turn it off with the wi-fi on/off shortcut but it goes back on after a few seconds. I go into settings and turn it off that way, but again, after a few seconds it turns itself back on.
I'm assuming there's probably something in the background forcing it back on, but what is it likely to be, and how do I make it so I can turn off wireless when I want to?
I have wavesecure, shopsavvy, footprints, clock, music, gps tracker. WCA, Y5 battery saver, calender, and browser running (or so advanced taskiller tells me.

What i did but now my phone makes an annoying type writing sound when i text. I looked though everything and cant find what turns it off. And also the spell check when u type is off too how do i turn that back on?

Is there a way or a app that allows u to set a time for your phone to turn completley off and back on at a certain time. i could do this on my blackberry and would set it to turn off at night then back on in the morning.

Just got my new Hero & was wondering if there is a way you can turn off the start up tones that chirp away when you first turn the phone on?Sorry if its a bit of a stupid question. I have a feeling this phone is gonna keep me busy for a good few months.

If it could turn to the right as opposed to the left, typing on the landscape keyboard would be much easier. The botton of the phone would not get in the way. Just wondering.

Before upgrading to 2.1, I was able to turn off Sense UI by following these steps:How to: Turn off HTC Sense | AndroidGuys.Now, when I select "Clear Defaults" and hit the HOME button, all it does is take me back to the Sense UI home.Does anyone know how to turn off Sense UI with the new 2.1 firmware? Rooting is not an option.

1) what do you guys use to clean your screen? 2) whats the best apps for turning wifi on and off? i tried and it seemed to be conflicting with the internal wifi control 3) anyways to turn off or edit that red charging light? or edit any of the alerts for that matter? any app out there can do that? 4), whats the best size to convert the videos? or how do you do it to get a perfect result? 5) lastly, is there a way i can load edited audio files and use them as ringtones and alerts, BUT NOT HAVE THEM SHOW UP IN MUSIC? like a "media file" or something?

I have had a Hero for three days, and it updated twice from the box to 2.1 update 1. Problem is that Bluetooth keeps switching itself on when I move between home screens, and when it wakes up. I have tried to switch it off through settings, but blink, and there it is again. I haven't even got round to pairing anything yet! Any ideas?

After 2.1 install i can not turn off wifi when i am at home... i try turn off it with widgets and via settings but after 5 seconds it turns on automatic again... also i noticed that after 2.1 my battery life became much shorter..

I had a orange branded hero and set about modding it. I used flashrec and recovery-RA-hero-v1.6.2.img. I did everything the noobie guides state and it seemed to have worked. I then flashed with a custom rom 2.9-update-hero-modacocustomrom-core-signed.zip. after a while, the phone was successfully de branded.
Then i wanted to flash the phone with h3g uk official rom, as my phone was unlocked and i had a contract 3 sim. I was told to flash splhard1_update_signed.zip. I did this and since then my phone wont switch on? I have tried removing battery, home & power but the phone just stays blank...

I know that you can make it so there is NO vibration while you are typing text messages. I had it turned off, but I wiped and now I cannot find where to go in order to turn it off again. Is there anyway to turn off this light? Right now my battery is < 15% and it keeps flashing/blinking amber orange.Its pretty annoying if you have your phone on your desk because it keeps blinking.

I have had problems receiving messages so i updated the RUU with the official T-mobile UK one. Now I cant activate predictive text on the compact qwerty keyboard. The little switch thing is Grey and stuck on abc, although wierdly when I click return it lights up just as the keyboard drops down, anybody else found this and more importantly how do I fix it!

I've had the Hero since 10-29-09 and the scroll-ball light is always on, it never shuts off ... It's driving me CRAZY. Also; the light pulses very lightly. Like it has a short or something. I've checked all my messages, settings and I can't find the problem. Has anyone had this problem? How did you fix it? I don't really want to go to my local Sprint store because I'm sure they have no idea.

I have a sim free Hero on 3UK that I recently upgraded to 2.1. Since doing so, I have noticed that the data turns itself on every so often.I normally use the htc widget to turn on/off the mobile data as I don't use it while at work/at home. Occaisionally, I notice that it is switched on and when I try to switch it back off, it restarts itself. I've noticed this on quite a few days now over the last couple of weeks and once it starts doing it, I can't stop it.I can only think it is down to either some app that I have installed or the synch settings, but I have checked for running processes and killed anything that looks like one of my apps.I don't really know what else to do to stop it. Has anyone got any ideas?
