Just got my new Hero & was wondering if there is a way you can turn off the start up tones that chirp away when you first turn the phone on?Sorry if its a bit of a stupid question. I have a feeling this phone is gonna keep me busy for a good few months.

My previous phone, enV touch, still played some sound when u press clear to activate voice commands, even in vibration mode. (the voice that says, "please say a command. Beep") Anyways I don't want to accidentally press something or get a notification that makes a sound. All I want to know is if there's any hidden features that could play unwanted sound, even if the phone is in vibrate. I go to school and my phone will get taken away if a teacher hears it so this is important.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy Wife and both has Evo 4gs. On my phone, when I get a email, it just vibrates, but for a text I get a sound. On my Wife's phone, she has sounds for both. I installed a loud alarm sound because she doesn't want to miss a text form our kids. The problem is emails come in at all hours and it wakes us up.
Under "settings" I have Email Notifications ON, Notification Sound OFF, and Notification Vibrate ON for both phones.
The only difference is I have Hotmail and She is using GMAIL. What can I do to get her emails to just vibrate and text message to sound an alarm?
is there a way to turn off all of the notification sounds for email, calendar, and texts? There does not seem to be a global setting for things, and there's not individual settings for this, for example, with the calender, you can't turn off the sounds without turning off the on-screen pop-up reminder. Any apps for this I wonder.

View 2 Replies View RelatedA text message or e-mail arrives, the notification alarm starts and I have to pull the phone out of the holder, press home to wake up the phone, press menu, then notifications to stop it. That seems like a lot of steps. Is there a setting I am missing to press the volume button or power button the stop the tone? Maybe an application? I know it times out at some point but by then I am sure anyone around me is annoyed at hearing "Check it out" being played over and over.

But I was recently having some GMail syncing issues and during the troubleshooting for that I uninstalled the latest GMail update and reinstalled it. As a result, GMail is now doing audible notificatrion sounds for new email when before I only had notification in t he notification bar. I can't seem to get it turned off. I still want calendar events and texts to sound so I don't want to silence the phone but I want email and GMail to be silent (Notification icon only).

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo the one of the first thing i did when i got my hero was to stop the htc message service n went to chomp sms, awesome app. anyway i wanna change the notification / message sounds to something not in the default list. basically i wanna crop a music file on my phone and have it as a message tone like u can and i have done with my ring tone. i was expecting for there to be an option to chose what i set the tone as.
what i mean is, when ive cropped a file you get an option to 'set as ring tone' or set as 'contact tone'. no option for notification sounds. ive also played about in the chomp settings and i can only get a list up for default sounds. am i just being stupid and dont know where to look, or do i serioulsy have to keep the crap htc sounds? ive got a peter griffin soundboard, if i click n hold on a sound it pops up with set a tone and notification, and i can set that as my sound but i dont want that, i wanna crop a music file.

View 49 Replies View RelatedI recently got an HTC Hero (actually a (UK)T-Mobile G2) which I think is fantastic. The only problem I have is to do with the Calendar Event Alert sound. T-Mobile supply it with this noise that is awful - it sounds like someone scraping their fingernails down a blackboard. It's horrid!
I've tried changing it by going into the Calendar then doing Menu -> Settinggs -> Reminders -> Reminder sounds and then selecting a different sounds but it's no use. I even tried removing and re-adding the Exchange account but I can't get it to stop playing that awful noise!
I have been using the alarm on the Hero as a wake up but it will only vibrate and not play sounds which it would always do without problems before. The weird part is that selecting a tone to play for the alarm has also stopped being audible, so in some ways this leads to an obvious conclusion?

2. Can you get tones through Myxer still with the Hero?
3. Also is there a way to have different notification sounds for txt, emails and voicemails?
Update...figured out a much easier way...after I did some searching and figured out how to add the folders I started using phonezoo and just saving the files on my computer and then transfering that way. Also using Ringdroid works to create some from music already on my hero.
Has anyone found a good website for downloading Notification sounds? I know you can create your own with ringdroid etc...but I am lazy and I just want to DL some to my computer and trasfer them to my phone.

My Hero will, at times, beep randomly, but leave nothing in the notifications bar. If I open a task manager I can see that HTC Checkin Service and Settings are the only things running. This process will repeat, whether I close the apps or not, and run the battery down.
Is there some kind of system log I can look at to find out what is causing this? It seems weird that the phone would make the sound but leave no evidence of a notification.
Can you have a one tone for email notifications and a different tone for text notifications?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI absolutely cannot get text message notification sounds to work. At all. It stays on the stock sound. I can change it to any of the preloaded stock sounds and click ok but when I get a text it still plays the stock sound. I also tried using custom and that didnt work either. I have searched and searched and found nothing. And I am using the proper folder structure on the sd card for the customs. Does anyone have any ideas at all? Im getting very frustrated.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am a new owner of the HTC Hero and I tried to customize the ring tones and alarm sounds by using the directions provided by leaky on the tread "HTC Hero: Tips, Tricks & Useful Apps" but unfortunately this did not work out for my Hero. My SD card appeared as DCIM and I had to rename it to SD card and then on the MEDIA folder I added an AUDIO folder in which I added three separate files. One named ring tones, one named alarms and on named notifications as directions provided by thread. Then I added the appropriate .mp3 files to each folder while having the Hero plugged in with my PC.
