View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm a Linux user, so the idea of rooting the phone is one of the many reasons I picked up this phone. However, I've been reading the forums and searching around, and have yet to find anything about rooting *from* Linux. Ubuntu and Fedora find the Hero beautifully; I've had better response mounting this than some portable hds I own. But has anyone successfully tried rooting any Android phone from a Linux OS? I'd really rather not install Windows just to do this. I imagine Wine might help, but there's got to be a better way to access Linux-to-Linux than using Windows.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm new to android, and not so new to Linux. I came here from windows about 2 years ago and now I'm using the latest version of Ubuntu. I'd still consider myself a Linux newb but it is now the only OS I use. I understand that Linux has a tiny market share and all but why isn't this phone more Linux friendly? Why can't I sync my contacts and calendar with any Linux software? I have a gmail account but do I really want to rely on the internet for everything, Finally can any fellow Linux users recommend anything that will make this phone more useful to me, or direct me to threads that will? I'd appreciate any Linux specific tips. apps, or anything on either side of the USB cable.
View 3 Replies View RelatedPart of why I bought a HTC Desire to replace my 2G iPhone was getting away from iTunes - piece of bloat required me to keep a Windows computer around, updating music was pesky, etc.
The plan with the HTC is to sync it over Wifi when it connects to my home network. The system it syncs with is a media server running Linux and storing my music collection.
I've gotten so far to have Tasker start FTPServer on connecting to Wifi, and have built a little script called every 10 minutes by cron that checks for presence of the phone. If it finds the phone, it connects and syncs a folder, then makes the ftp server on the phone shutdown, so it won't reconnect every 10 minutes.
So far, so good (I'll gladly share the bash script, if anybody wants to use. Needs some more polishing, though)
The bit that bugs me is playlists. I can create m3u playlists and copy them over fine, however once they are on the phone, they disappear from the Music folder and cannot be changed/deleted anymore - except by the built in music app. This is quite inconvenient, since I have a number of podcasts that get updated daily and that I'd like to take on the phone, with a playlist showing the newest episodes first. I can make the playlist easily on the computer, however the phone will end up with multiple copies of these playlists, which I can't get rid off.
If there's no way, I'll work around by editing track/album MP3 tags and grouping my stuff together this way, but I'd prefer using simple playlists...
From an HTC Hero Sprint user. mount your phone, copy your HTC Sync folder in your phone. Zip/Rar the folder for me and upload it! I accidentally deleted it from my phone and I can't sync my phone with HTC Sync application on my PC.
View 7 Replies View Relatedi successfully got into adb in recovery mode fairly easily on my ubuntu 10.4 laptop using the following method- this should also work for a linux live boot from a usb flash drive
in one terminal tail and follow log messages
~$ tail -f /var/log/messages
In another terminal run the loop
Then
1. plugin usb and keep it plugged in
2. remove battery, eject sd card.
3. put battery in
4. press vol- and power
5. after around 6 seconds, your terminal with the log will show something like "new high speed USB..."
6. press vol- to select recovery
7. press the power button
8. IMPORTANT- as soon as you see a new log entry (something like "USB disconnect"), pop in the sd card
check your loop terminal for adb. if it doesn't work, repeat at step 2
Is there some way to sync my contacts in Evolution, kmail(not prefered), thunderbird ( I found a round about way of doing it), or some sort of program just accessing the motorola cliq?

View 2 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to sync my new HTC Hero to my Mac OS 10.4.11
I saw a previous thread on the subject, but without a definitive answer.
I'm on the 3 network and for the last month my hero won't sync with google in north london, it seems to work everywhere else e.g. south and east london. i get this error message:'can't establish a reliable data connection' I've hard reset the phone several times that didn't work, i formatted the sd card didn't work, I've put in a different sim no luck with that too. Also the browser works fine i can access the net without a problem, however if i try to sign in to gmail through my browser i get an error message too: 'a secure connection could not be established'. I've been to several 3 shops and called tech support they don't know what the problem is either, they want me to send it in for repair but i'm reluctant to do that as works everywhere else.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have looked at other threads and even searched online, but I still can't get this phone to sync. I have Windows 7 64Bit and have downloaded and installed the latest sync as well as drivers and followed all the instructions I could find and it shows up in devices just fine but still just shows me as disconnected on HTCSync and in the sync settings on the phone. This is getting very annoying.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI just bought my HTC Hero a few days ago and just found this forum as well. I am wondering if anyone can tell me how to sync my phone to my computer. I didn't get any CD with it. I am also wondering if I hard reset my phone back to factory default, will all the apps, etc that were there out of the box, still be there? If I can sync with my computer, can I put my contacts back on from my computer? And, finally, there is a "notice" type "bell" sound every so often on my phone, but I have checked messages and phone calls as well as email, plus there are no notifications at top...what might it be? Thanks for your help. Hope I haven't posted something that has been talked about a million times before.
View 1 Replies View RelatedLast week I've been having my google email/contacts/calander sync to my hero.. it keeps saying there is a error, and it says my contacts were sync last June 1st, 2009

I have just installed HTC Sync 2.0.18 on both my computers and none of them will recognize my phone when I connect it. One of the computers is a Dell Inspiron 9400 running Vista and the other is a MacBook Pro running Windows 7 under VMWare Fusion 3.0.2.HTC Sync 2.0.18 should work in Windows 7 and definitely under Vista so I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. On both computers I'm running AVG Antivirus 9.0 Free, on which I disabled resident shield during installations, as recommended.

View 5 Replies View RelatedAfter the update to Android 2.1 on my HTC Hero, like many other people, I had problems syncing my phone contacts to my facebook contacts. The process com.htc.bgp constantly force closed, and no linking could be made or is some cases only a part of the facebook contacts were synced. Different fixes has been suggested by users online but none of them worked. But after a lot of trying, a combination of these fixes finally solved the problem for me. Now all my facebook contacts are available to link to my phone contacts. Here's what I did and what you can try:
1. On your computer, go to Facebook Account Application settings. Remove applications Facebook for Android and HTC Sense. Log out of Facebook.
2. On your phone, remove any all Facebook programs or widgets you might have installed.
3. Go to Settings Accounts and delete your Facebook for HTC Sense account. The settings Background data should be checked and Auto-sync unchecked.
4. Go to Settings Applications Manage applications. Enter each of the following applications and click Clear data:
a. Calender
b. Calender Storage
c. com.htc.socialnetwork.accountmanager
d. com.htc.socialnetwork.provider
e. Facebook for HTC Snese
f. Gmail
g. Gmail Storage
h. My Uploads
i. PC Synchronization
5. Restart your phone.
6. Connect to the internet.
7. Start the Photos program
8. At the bottom there should be a facebook icon. Click it and log in to your facebook account.
9. Let all the contacts download.
10. Go to your contacts (People), and now your old Facebook connections should slowly start to appear, and you should be able to link the contacts to your facebook contacts. It might take a while but have patience!
Perhaps one or a few of these steps are not necessary, but at least its what worked for me and hopefully it will help some of you.
I see this "HTC Sync - synchronize your phone with windows" in the notifications. I clear it, and it shows up a few hours later. I am at work and only sync with my home PC. I don't need to be reminded to do that. Is there any way to permanently not get that notification yet not remove the HTC sync app?

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a new HERO that works perfectly and I love it. But I have an older laptop that doesn't have USB 2 on it and I can't seem to sync my calendar. In fact and I can't get to first base with it. The install fails on the laptop because I don't have usb 2.0 I'm guessing. Is there any other way to sync this with out a cable? This would be nice to get going as my HERO would be 100% then..
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter installing HTC Sync from the HTC website (v.2.0.4), and connecting my Hero via USB, my Hero cannot find HTC Sync on PC, although it is installed, and I have restarted my PC. View 10 Replies View RelatedHero wont sync contacts to Google.. Anyone know any possible fixes? If it is any help: I cannot set a contact as "Google". View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to sync Google calendar and contacts to the phone calendar and contacts?
I deleted all my outlook entries (calendar and contacts) from the phone because it was creating duplicates. Now, I am syncing my Hero with my Lotus Notes calendar at work, as well with my Google calendar. I can see all appointments on my phone. However, I can't see Lotus appointments on my Google account, neither my Google calendar entries on my Lotus Notes.
How can I sync them all? If I import my Google entries into Lotus, it will create duplicates in the Phone and vice-versa.
I don't see any advantages for Google entries to be separated from my other entries. I have one list of contacts and that list should be the same across all programs I use. The same for calendars (actually it is useful to have multiple calendars, as long as no duplicates exists).
That, for me, is the biggest drawback of the HTC Hero. My Moto Q was a lot worse phone than the Hero, but the calendar and contacts sync was much better.
I'm having a real problem with my phone. My contacts are set up to sync with google which works fine. All my contacts are Google contacts. However, if I create a new contact (setting it as a Google contact), then when it syncs with Google, rather than creating the contact in my GMail account it wipes the contact from my phone.I can't be the only person experiencing this, is there a solution?

I use the Google Voice (GV) click to call (click-to-call / ctt) feature quite a bit. When it rings my phone, my OWN google voice number shows up in my phone's call log. Does anybody know if it is possible, or how, to get the click-to-call initiated calls to show up as the person that I was calling in my phone's call log?
