Will flashing a new ROM over an existing one wipe out all the apps and settings. including contacts? If so then what is the method to backup and bring it all back. To much of a pain to continually re-install apps and resync (particularly since HTC sync doesn't work very well).

downloaded htc sync accepted my serial attached desire to pc - and selected htc sync launched pc programme.i clicked sync and it doesn't seem to have done anything at all i wanna back up all my contacts, music, photos etc but it doesn't seem to have worked also.i thought the desire sent your contacts to gmail to keep them backed up remotely doesn't seem to work either new user so go steady.

The previous version was just as bad, really. It seems to be a running issue with a lot of users, though.Is there an alternative? Is there a way of converting my Outlook contacts that are on the phone into Google contacts so I don't have to deal with Sync at all? What with this, plus the new Sync not working with my Outlook 2003 when I DID have it working plus the phone recently not notifying me of new voicemail over a 2 week period (which cost me a job interview), I'm seriously considering ditching the phone. Too many things keep going wrong!

1. Being told that it doesnt work over Wifi? Why the hell not?!
2. It adding mutltiple entries for the same number in the same contact
3. It adding the same contact multiple times
4. Not being able to log in
5. Now not being able to make it stop syncing (or trying!) even when I have deleted the bloody account!!!!!!!
I have never been more disappointed with ANY product I have ever bought. In Halfords today and had to end the phone call because I couldnt hear who I was talking to. Pathetic.
It doesn't work with Outlook 2010!

a) Speaker doesn't work in call (very weak). works well in ringtones etc.
b) Scrolling contacts by letter doesn't work.
Other than that this is a leap forward, especially with the overclock options!
Both bugs, as well as others, fixed in 1.6.3.1 update!
Yes I did read all the other posts about this. None of those suggestions made a difference.So to test I sent myself an email and had the GMAIL app open on the ERIS.It sometimes give me a conversation notice but does not actually download the email to the app for a long time. And then only if I force a refresh.I have full 3G where I am so that can't be it. Also, I do no have a task killer and I keep mobile on all the time.The ERIS doeseverything else very well with the exception of e-mail.
View 14 Replies View RelatedNow that I've updated to 2.1, most of the apps (weather and time apps) no longer work correctly.I live in Panama City Beach but these apps continue to tell me I am slightly north of Tallahassee over 100 miles away and in a different time zone. Stays the same regardless of GPS on or off,I have deleted and re-installed all of the offending programs and that didn't help either.Everything was great prior to the update.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I used to use Swype on xtrROM 3.0.3 and it worked fine. After switching to 4.0.6.1, the swiping action doesn't produce any text but tapping the letters does. I've been all over the Swype forum and see a lot of complaints that Swype has the same problem on Froyo. Any ideas? At least I still was able to find SahpeWriter but it isn't as smooth as Swype was.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI found this on Android Central (thanks to IzelTokatl) and someone there did verify it worked for OTA 2.1 phones. I tried it on my leak version 3 phone and I got the Hboot error again. I'm thinking this does not bode well for phones with the leak as once Verizon releases the upgrade for download from PCD or HTC we still won't be able to use it until the Hboot problem is fixed. The following instructions for doing the downgrade to 1.5 are cut and pasted from the Android Central forum and I edited them for PC's: Download the MR2 Upgrade Eris ROM from verizon partner: personal Communications Devices
1. Unzip the file
2. Plug your phone into your PC.
3. Navigate to folder ADR6200_MR2_Upgrade
4. Run .exe file in the folder (RUU_Desire_C_Verizon_WWE_1.17.605.1_release_signe d_with_driver.exe)
5. follow on screen instructions.
Pinch zoom is not working in the browser. Don't know if th is is a limitation of this ROM or some other issue.
View 11 Replies View RelatedWe have tried everything to get a bluetooth earpiece to work with the HTC Droid. The only thing that works is answering a call and the quality is questionable.
You cannot use voice dialing at all. Last call redial doesn't work. Nothing that we have come to take for granted on cell phones for years works. If a 3 year old Motorola flip can do it, it can't be that hard.
Anyone have any idea if this is going to get fixed in the next release? I didn't find it even described in the release for December 11th.
Any reason Cricket internet doesn't work on Froyo builds? I have flashed all of them, and after flashing the 'cricket internet V9' it won't connect. If I flash back to a 2.1 ROM, it works. What gives? It's really annoying because I want to run KaosV27, but can't without 3g.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI dropped my phone (htc eris) in snow but it didn't submerge and I checked the water damage indicator and it still has the little red x's on the white strip so there was no water damage. But now the phone is randomly stuck in headphone mode. I have searched the forum and the only fix people have mentioned is rebooting and taking out the battery... That doesn't work for me.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI text. A lot. It's very irritating when the keyboard on the Eris can't keep up with how fast I type. I'll be finished with my message, and the last few words take 1-3 seconds to show up, which is fine I suppose. However, when I make some errors, the auto-correct feature doesn't work because apparently my typing speed is too quick for it.
Everything works fine when I type slowly, but that's annoying too.
I barely have any apps besides the stock ones. In running services I only have the calendar, Google Voice, Touch Input, and BatteryTime running. I don't use any app killer, I have animations and haptic feedback turned off. I don't know what else I can do to speed this phone up.
This problem, the lag in switching from portrait to landscape, and the lag with calls is really making me want to sell my Eris and purchase the Incredible, or I may wait until the "Moto Droid X" releases in July....or is that just a rumor?
I downloaded the ringtone the boss uses in a Geico commercial to my cellphone. I moved the file to media/audio/ringtones but the phone doesn't see it as a ringtone.

got a few things im not sure how to fix or what im doing wrong. first off my alarm clock does not go off in the mornings for work. i set a alarm for a few mins ahead of the actual time to see if it works and it goes off. but the next morning nothing still. also both my emails do not refresh themselves anymore. i have to go in and refresh to see if i got any mail. Another thing is when i change my notification ringtone for my text messages it does not change to what i set. i go back in and it is still set to what i put it at but when i get a text its not what i set... does anyone have any ideas on any of this. im sure im doing something wrong but its driving me crazy

I went ahead and downloaded the Calendar Pad for Android and it is really great. It went and synched with the Calendar app native to the device, which is find because i really like the UI.
But I need a separate calendar app for my work stuff. I don't want them on the same calendar (way too crowded).
Anyone know of an app that just "keeps to itself"? I searched and I couldn't find one.
My Droid Eris still lags very bad even when clearing cache and adding a task killer. Anything else that can be done?

I am running XP SP3. I have downloaded the latest version of HTC Sync. I disable my anti-virus and firewall and install, and it reports it installs correctly, but that it will not run and it will not recognize the phone.
I read that it's a "known issue" with McAfee, but don't see a workaround or any detailed threads.Anyone running McAfee and get it to work?
I'm using Google Calendar and syncing it to my Eris, and for some reason it's damn flaky. Half the time it works, but then if, say, I delete one event out of a recurring pattern from the phone,com.htc. provider. calendar crashes every time the phone tries to update its calendar! It will continually do this until I force stop it, reset the calendar storage and re-sync manually from Google's servers. That, and I've deleted a few events on calendar.google.com and have re-sync'd the phone manually a bunch of times and it won't seem to affect the data on the phone. I mean, it's nice to not have to pay for push calendar sync (like Apple asks you to with MobileMe), but c'mon Google & HTC. First the YouTube app never works on mobile network, Google Maps won't let you arbitrarily pick a location to map to, and this calendar syncing bs? These are things that should just work on a phone with the Google logo on the back.

Of the apps I've downloaded, only a few of them have worked. Of those few that work, some don't work right. Has anyone had problems with these apps crashing on them, or just not working correctly?
- Nice Battery (see description at bottom of: My Ultimate CLIQ settings (so far))
- WeatherBug (kept showing the wrong location, crashed when trying to change location)
- Snake - doesn't work just says its "paused"
- RingDroid - crashes when I select the "Facebook Pop" button
- Layar - screen is rotated 90 degrees at all times
There have been others, but usually I just uninstall them right after discovering it doesn't work right.
I've had an HTC Desire on Orange in the UK for about 6 weeks and it is having persistent problem. Firstly despite having a strong 4-bar out of 4 signal, online services and the internet do not work at all when a 3G signal is being received (e.g. news, weather, all widgets, internet, email etc).Calls and texts do work however with a 3G signal.But when a 3g+ signal (HSDPA) is being received, all internet services as above work fine.However, when a 3+ signal is being received, the phone does not make or receive calls or text messages, and often fails to send texts. Calls I make immediately shut down (bleep + �call ended�), and incoming calls from other people go straight to answerphone. Also often when turning the data connection on/off, it freezes and has to be rebooted, and turning airplane setting on and off does not fix the problem.
I have also tried the different network settings (GSM, WCDMA, auto, etc). �GSM� sends and receives calls and texts but doesn�t work (or is incredibly slow) with internet, and �auto� and �WCDMA only� show the problems as above.I don't think this is a network/coverage issues as, as I have seen many people reporting these same issues on other networks and in other parts of the UK, and I have read that other people are having to manually turn off HSDPA to be able to make calls (using an app?). Even if I can stop HSDPA from connecting to make sure the phone works, I still can�t use the internet at all on 3g � even GSM works better!
Finally, when I connect to a bluetooth device (e.g. car and headphones) the phone will connect briefly, and then randomly disconnect. I have also seen this issue reported elsewhere.I very much like the phone and don't want to get rid of it, but these problems are making the phone unuseable.Also I don't know if I should be contacting HTC or Orange about this. Will the upcoming Android 2.2 fix these problems?Anyone know how to fix this or if I need a new handset? Are there any apps that can help? Also does the Nexus One have these problems and are they fixed by Froyo?
So I made a discovery - my dialpad doesn't work during a call. Even if I bring it up via the softkeys, the numbers don't register a tap...anyone. else have this issue or is it just my phone?

Of all issues HTC is making statements on, this is one that hasn't been acknowledged at all. I think most people just attribute it to poor reception when really it's just a flaw in the jack design. It seems to be the case in every 0003 I've come across, but I'm not 100% sure on the 0002s... Maybe we can get some input here.
When fully plugged in, the connector pin for antenna is not always touching a contact on your 3.5mm plug. Supposedly some headphones work, but there may be slight variations in the headphone plugs by manufacturer that would work. I've tried several sets... AKG, Skullcandy, Panasonic, Phillips, etc. and several Evos, they all have the same problem. Try this: Turn on the FM radio without headphones. It'll ask you to plug headphones in to use as an antenna. Plug the headphones all the way in, until it snaps, and it'll start tuning... You'll then hear nothing but static OR get lousy reception that changes a lot when you move the headphone cables around, right?................
