Android :: How To Flash Custom ROM With ROM Manager & Full Backup / Restore
May 8, 2010
I spent most of today finalizing this guide that I've been writing for the last 2 weeks (on and off) and it's finally posted.I know rooting, custom ROMs, Nandroid, and other flashing business can be confusing, especially to beginners, so I usually try to make my guides detailed, thorough, and noob-friendly (I call it "I wish somebody showed me how to do this crap when I was getting started" series)Check it out and tell me what you think: [Complete Guide] How To Flash A Custom ROM To Your Android Phone With ROM Manager + Full Backup & Restore The other guides you may find useful from the same series: Custom ROMs For Android Explained And Why You Want Them Rooting Explained + Top 5 Benefits Of Rooting Your Android Phone [Complete Guide] How To Fully Back Up And Restore Your Android Phone Using Nandroid Backup I'm going to enjoy the rest of the sunny Saturday now.

The ROM that I use on my phone pretty much discourages dirty flashing updates [CM10.1 based]. So for the last 10 or so updates, I have clean wiped my HTC Rezound, then restored from a TitaniumBackup.
First I disabled compression of backups.
Then to restore I go to /sdcard/TitaniumBackup/ and run a bash command:
# for i in *.apk; do pm install "$i"; done
Then I go to TitaniumBackup, and every app is installed but doesn't have my data. So then I batch restore my data for my apps [Pretty much only user apps, except a few system things like SMS, WiFi networks]. But the problem is, recently, TitaniumBackup will quit halfway through a batch restore of "Data only." So I've been manually restoring data 1 by 1 for the apps that I need data to be saved across rom updates.
But then I thought, "Hey, why can't I just backup my /data/data/ folder?" but then I also thought that would probably be like a dirty flash.

i rooted my T15A tablet with "Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v17" tool and then installed/flased "SuperCharger_Starter_Kit_RC12". After the flash my internal storage shows up with 0 byte and i am not able to install any app. A factory reset did not work too.
I've got another original T15A tablet and want to create a full backup of this and flash it to the bricked one.I found some guides on how to create a backup by connecting to an adb shell. This guides are all device specific and i now dont know.what to backup under /dev/blocks/ ....
- how to do a full backup / restore?
- Maybe we just can fix the 0 byte error (but i didnt find generic solution about that)
Code:
root@android:/ # ls -al /dev/block/
ls -al /dev/block/
brw------- root root 7, 0 2012-12-04 22:12 loop0
brw------- root root 7, 1 2012-12-04 22:12 loop1
brw------- root root 7, 2 2012-12-04 22:12 loop2
brw------- root root 7, 3 2012-12-04 22:12 loop3
[code]....

I had is that the max speed that it gives me to set when I auto detect is 1 Ghz. I want to restore my back up that I made when I flashed the kernel but it doesn't show up in ROM manager. I feel bad being such a noob question and needing a step by step instructions but if anyone can help it would be great. I tried going through command prompt but only got as far as it telling me "a list of devices has been attached", but my device didn't show up.

I am using XOLO A1000. Recently I experienced a problem in my phone. The rear camera option got disappeared from camera function. I can use only front camera. I contacted XOLO care and they suggested me to apply FACTORY DATA RESET option.
Now I am ready to reset the phone but before that I need to take full backup of my phone. There is no software / tool is being provided by the company. find a software / tool which can take full backup (contacts, msg, apps, photos, settings, etc...) and restore as well without rooting the phone?

I'm having the documented problem of no data connection, always on roaming, after flashing to CM 10.1. My prior rom was CleanRom 5.1, and I have several nandroid backups from various roms over the last few months. GS3 (d2vzw) with root and unlocked bootloader.
So the question is... What's the best way to restore IMEI info and get mobile data back?
There are a couple of steps I'm not sure of:
Option 1: Flash a nandroid recovery, backup IMEI using terminal emulator, and then crack-flash away
1. If I restore my phone to a previous backup, is the correct IMEI information included?
2. Also having a problem getting the MD5 sum's to match. Should I flash through ADB instead of clockworkmod? Or use Odin to get back to stock and then re-root? If correct IMEI included with flash back to stock?
3. Assuming I restore a nandroid, the plan was to use "reboot nvbackup" in terminal emulator to save IMEI info.
4. Flash back to CM 10.1.
Option 2: Use IMEI Generator and NV Reader/Writer:
1. Based on this thread: [URL]
2. Problem: The link to the generator tool in the OP is broken (404). I can get the converted IMEI number from an alternative program, but don't know how to format the text file correctly to use with NV Reader/Writer. Any standard format of a dummy IMEI text file?

I Installed Smoked Glass V5.0 from V4.5. I ended up doing it twice, and to make a long story short I lost my files in AK Notebook.
Here's my question:
1. Should I backup my current configuration
2. Then "Restore" my backup prior to upgrade
3. Grab my files (hoping they will be there) toss them on my mac
4. Then just "Restore" back to where I am now?
Need those files by tomorrow, any assistance is much appreciated. It's not that it's an emergency without them, but I will have to do some legwork to gather that info again.

I recently updated my Mini Pro to Android 2.1, I followed the steps on the sonyericssonsupport YouTube video. I did a Backup of all my stuff on the phone, when I'd updated my phone and turned it on it asked me to setup the phone again with the Language, Time & Date etc and now when I try to restore my settings it says "Could Not Restore" when it is almost done.

I have 73 visual voicemails on my Evo right now. If I backup the stock voicemail program with Titanium Backup will I be able to restore them all after wiping all data and/or installing a different ROM (as well as Sprint VVM)? If not, is there another way to backup the downloaded voicemails on the phone, i.e. not emailing them to myself?

I did a search on the site but unfortunately I have not been able to find it .... I could use the full rom to load on clone s3 I9320 with MTK6575 (N9300) .... the components disassembled looks identical to the model we are talking about here on the forum N9300 + MTK6577 ... but obviously this fits different processor that is MTK6575 fact I did a test with the rom of 'N9300 + but does not go .. because of course the file marked scatter of N9300 MTK6577 + ...... detects when loading as MTK6575 and does not go forward .... so I need the original full 's I9320 N9300 MTK6575 ...

I've been a member of Android Forums for awhile now although I haven't posted much recently. This is Matt from Droidmatic a small startup of a few guys that want to make great Android apps. We recently released our first app, Contacts Blast, which can act as a full feature replacement for the built in contacts manager / dialer. We even integrate with the "dial" button from the home screen and can easily be turned into the default app.I wanted to share our feature list with everyone as well as some screenshots. Nearly every change since the 1.0 release (we are at version 1.4 right now) has been inspired by the feedback we are receiving from our users.

I'm doing something wrong or newb here. I've tried both Astro and MyBackup Pro, and both of them require me to manually one-by-one "Install" and approve the install of each application. I had to tap "Install" then "Done" probably 100 times! WTF? Astro didn't seem to get ALL the applications either. It showed them all listed and I could check them, but they weren't part of the backup directory?! MyBackup Pro got them all it seems. Furthermore neither of them installed the applications BACK to the SD card from whence they came originally! I have to use another application to move them all again. This is incredibly tedious and obnoxious. My PalmOS just backed up everything as part of the HotSync and a restore was equally as simple. It backed up ALL the .prc and .pdb files. Isn't there a way to set a config/setting somewhere that says, "never prompt me for permissions"? My Palm never prompted me for permissions like this. It reminds me of the Windows Vista UAC debacle.Furthermore it restored the APPLICATIONS ONLY -- where the flying F is all my DATA?!?! aCar doesn't have my vehicle info in it. EiWeight doesn't have the months of pounds/body fat I've been tracking. What do I have to do to get the data/settings back for ALL my applications? Also, on a MyBackup Pro note -- it's stupid that it doesn't show you how far along in the asinine "Install"/"Done" process you are. Do I have 100 apps to go or 2 apps to go? I don't know. I'm just stuck hitting virtual buttons until the end.

Because of the widespread problem of the Motorola Driod randomly deleting text messages I went and bought MyBackup Pro I have used it once before to restore my pictures. Today my phone deicded to delete all 5000 of my text messages. I immediatly went to my app and hit restore. Upon reaching about 500 restored text messages the app flashes a done pop-up and gives me this message; "Restore SMS failed: Couldn't init cursor window." I have no idea what this means. I've tried several times and with different days backups with no luck. I'm able to restore all of my other files from thye backup, call log, pictures, MMS ect but not the other 4500 text messages.

I have a new HTC Hero and TELUS imported the contacts from my old (OLD) Motorola i570 dumbphone. I need to do a lot of cleanup of the data, including specifying proper first/last names, merging postal and e-mail address data from my Palm TX's database, etc. I used "Contacts Manager" to export my phone-based contacts to an XML file on the SD card. It can apparently import an XML file as well, but I can't get it to work. It always complains about importing a directory instead of a file.
Contacts Manager v1.1 Application for Android | Tools
So now I'm looking for another app that can overwrite my phone's contacts database with new data from an XML or CSV file. I would really prefer not to send all this information up to Google.

I have a little experience using computers from late 1995 Year, and from year 2000 I am using also Linux from time to time, and very rare but it was a delight freeBSD. I have no experience on Android and MacOs.
Now, I all my family (father, mother, girlfriend and I) changed the phones on Android which is Linux based, but for ARM processors.
Anyway, I have played a little with Android 4 x86 on my laptop. From, my point of view, a Android Smartphone is just a little computer like an raspberry pi / pandaboard / beagle board. So, a mini computer with an Arm processor running a very small and tiny operating system max 8 Gb, when on my gentoo install I had been using about 30-40 Gb. I know, the size can be affected by the compiling flags but anyway.
Now, on all my system I had, from my experience I did 2 Backups, like this:
My laptop is backed-up on the External Hardisk number 1, and the External Hardisk number 1 is backed-up on the External Hardisk number 2.So, as it is a good practice to have a backup handy, I keep 2 backups in 2 different location in case of hardware failure / water flood etc. Some of the files I need are backed up in the cloud, on the internet.
I use to make IMAGES of the Operating System partition, and of the mbr , and of the partition table, with software like Acronis True Image, Paragon, DriveImage XML, Norton Ghost, Clone Zilla.
When I had to do data recovery I did an Acronis "sector-by-sector" approach image of the hardisk, and I recovered files from that image.
I assume that maybe I will need to get root on one or two phones, and one phone need's to be unlocked from the carrier.
Before doing this I would like to make a full backup of the phones.
1) How can I make a FULL backup of the android phones? In this moment my mother phone is a samsung galaxy mini2 Samsung Galaxy Mini 2 s6500 and mine is Sony Xperia L
2) a) If I will "unlock" the phone from the carrier (locked on orange, but i wish to use also Vodafone, I tim, I wind, moviestar, o2 etc)
b) If I will "root" the phone to gain administrator acces on it
After step A) and B) if I will restore the original backup, the phone will be "locked" back to Orange, and "un-rooted", or it will be "unlocked" and "un-rooted"?
3) Instead of having an hardisk like computer have, I guess the smartphone is using an "usb-stick/sd-card/ssdhdd"-like memory for storage of the operating system, so how can I see the partition table, the mbr, on the device?
