View 9 Replies View RelatedI have nimbuzz on my milestone 2.1. I am trying to make VOIP calls on my skype account through nibuzz. When using wifi it works great. When using 3g I have a weird prob.
I can receive calls fine but I when I call someone I can't hear the person answering and he/she can't hear me. It won't work even with echo sound test. Does anyone have any idea why this would happen. I tried uninstalling and re installing and all that so.
Is there anyway to make VoIP calls or Skype Out calls on the EVO? I am switching from the iPhone 3GS and am going out of the country on vacation in a month and I got used to making Skype Out calls over WiFi when out of the country.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am going to be spending a little time in Canada for work. I know that if I turn my phone on it will connect to the network and start downloading email, texts, etc. Before I leave for canada I want to set up my phone so that when I turn it on up there, it won't try to get my e-mails. I also want to find away to stay in contact with my wife through the wifi. I do have google voice, so is there a way to use that to talk to her? The hotel does have wifi so I need to be able to turn off 1x, 3g, 2g, or whatever the phone uses to connect to the network but leave the wifi on. I would love some suggestions on how to keep in touch with my wife without getting charged for it. When I am in the hotel I will be using skype to talk to her through my laptop, but I wont be in the hotel during the day.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI no there are like a gzillion threads about this not jst on this forum but on others too, but i just can't seem to grasp what their saying. Anyway the point is basically i would like a noob proof tutorial on how to get try voip over 3g. I have tried fring and the test call works but i dont know how to make my own calls. Sipdroid and asip really confuse me and dont seem to work (just get red light) apparently i need something like pbxes which confuses me even more. I do have magicjack but i don't have the proxy for it and as of now dont have my actually magicjack with me so i can never really get it.

And so if you wanted you can free calls in and out.Oh and for the ones that seen the GV Dialer please see my disclaimer.
View 6 Replies View Relatednew Android user here (new HTC Legend owner) and was looking for a worthwhile app to use for VOIP dialing, when I'm in within range of the internet. So I don't have to use my mobile minutes. On my old Nokia E71 I used something called 'Fring' but surely Android has some apps that are much better than that. Not interested in paid apps either, I've already spent a fortune this week. I already have my own VOIP account with a provider and the needed info, so I just need the interface or whatever
View 4 Replies View RelatedIs there any way to make google voice calls to an international number (from the US to South Korea) for free using the Google Voice app on my Dx? How do I make sure Google Voice is making the call and that I am not being charged international fees?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I'm a little confused about Skype on Android. As I understand it, it's not really running Skype at all, it's just a fancy way to call their local Skype number, which you can actually do on any cell phone, right? So you still use minutes. If you make long-distance calls, you'll also use credits. If you make local-calls, I assume you don't? And do you use credit if you make Skype-to-Skype calls? What if someone Skypes you -- do you still use credit? Second, can Fring really do real voip Skype calls? Just using my wifi and no minutes? Can I see all my Skype contacts? Can they see me?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just came across this review of BMAX Android VOIP Client. From what I understand, it uses 3G/WIFI to make calls using differents VOIP provider.... I found some of those provider to offer FREE calls to Canada... So, paying a one time $4 fee for the app would give me the ability to make free calls to Canada... I'm just wondering if it's too good to be true ... Can we expect calls to Canada to remain free with those VOIP providers?
View 13 Replies View RelatedI have heard about using SIP with Fring, Sipdroid, Google Voice. Would anyone be willing to give a step by step of how they made VOIP work on this incredible machine.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Google Voice number local to my area code that forward to my pbxes.org account, which in turn takes the call and sends it to my phone via the SipDroid app. I can make incoming/outgoing calls all day long for free, but have a problem with call quality.
I have linked two voicemail files. I placed a call from SipDroid out to the same number in both cases, but one was done over WiFi and the other over 3G (2-3 bars, average signal). The WiFi one is acceptable, but the 3G one is not. Listen for yourself (For the message, I read one of the opening paragraphs from the US Declaration of Independence, same on both so you can compare accurately.)
Setup: Google Voice number -> pbxes.org -> SipDroid app
Wifi VOIP Voicemail: [URL] ....
3G VOIP Voicemail: [URL] .....
I am wanting to use my Google Voice number for work, as my off-hours support phone, so I do not accrue charges on my personal cell plan (not covered by employer, and they do not provide work mobile phones). So, since I am usually on the go, I will not be connected to WiFi, thus I need a reliable VOIP option that will get acceptable call quality over 3G. There are multiple options out there, and I do not have a problem with a monthly fee, but they all come with caveats. For example, if I got an "Online Number" from Skype, and just forwarded my Google Voice number to that, it would work through the Skype app, no SIP app needed; however, the Skype voicemail cannot be disabled, so I can no longer use the Google Voice app to easily see my support calls/messages from my home screen. I have use the Skype app (or website) to listen to voicemails. Skype would solve my quality problem (based on reviews of other users that use it over 3G), but introduce the new voicemail issue. The setup I have now (GV->pbxes->SipDroid) allows me to use the GV voicemail, but quality is lacking...catch 22. Is there a better more reliable solution out there for VOIP on Android?
There's also the Google Callback app, that I have been trying to avoid at all costs, since it is kind of hotkey, and I tried the GrooVe IP app, but it has a lot of echo for the person I am calling, and no setting change could fix it.
I will be updating my phone from the DroidX (3G only) to the Bionic (4G). If you think that will make a difference, and make all my concerns moot, then just say so, and that's what I'll do.
I've search a lot about VOIP for Android and I found Skype, Nimbuzz, iSkoot, etc. But sadly it's not pure VOIP. My question for all the Android experts. Is it possible to make an application to do pure VOIP using Android?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have google voice and I first added my google voice number onto my friends and family thinking it would give me the free minutes. I just read that I need to add my gogle voice routing number instead (which i got as 916-538-xxxx) so I went to add that but my Dad who also has google voice has the exact same routing number. So do I just add the one number as friends and family and we both get free minutes?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm still a little confused as to what the situation is here. With a rooted Android phone, are all non-free market apps unavailable, or just ones with copy-protection? For non-free, un-protected apps (are there any?), can they be purchased directly and installed on the phone without going through the market?

View 2 Replies View RelatedJust a quick question: I've read confusing information about this on the Internet. I don't know why I can't seem to find a clear answer on this. Maybe it has something to do with Google buying Gizmo5 and now the rules have changed. I think a lot of the articles I read about it now are outdated and aren't correct anymore. In any case, can someone please tell me which type of call, inbound or outbound, is free? When I say free, I mean which one only uses your data plan and doesn't count against your cell minutes.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI just got the Samsung Galaxy S Captivate. Seems like a nice phone. Every phone I've had in the past (Nokia, Sony, etc...) has always allowed me to hide my number so that the call display on the receiver's phone shows my call as 'private'. This is useful for when you don't want certain people to have your number when you call. Is there a way to do this on the Galaxy S? I couldn't seem to find any setting how.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a little experience using computers from late 1995 Year, and from year 2000 I am using also Linux from time to time, and very rare but it was a delight freeBSD. I have no experience on Android and MacOs.
Now, I all my family (father, mother, girlfriend and I) changed the phones on Android which is Linux based, but for ARM processors.
Anyway, I have played a little with Android 4 x86 on my laptop. From, my point of view, a Android Smartphone is just a little computer like an raspberry pi / pandaboard / beagle board. So, a mini computer with an Arm processor running a very small and tiny operating system max 8 Gb, when on my gentoo install I had been using about 30-40 Gb. I know, the size can be affected by the compiling flags but anyway.
Now, on all my system I had, from my experience I did 2 Backups, like this:
My laptop is backed-up on the External Hardisk number 1, and the External Hardisk number 1 is backed-up on the External Hardisk number 2.So, as it is a good practice to have a backup handy, I keep 2 backups in 2 different location in case of hardware failure / water flood etc. Some of the files I need are backed up in the cloud, on the internet.
I use to make IMAGES of the Operating System partition, and of the mbr , and of the partition table, with software like Acronis True Image, Paragon, DriveImage XML, Norton Ghost, Clone Zilla.
When I had to do data recovery I did an Acronis "sector-by-sector" approach image of the hardisk, and I recovered files from that image.
I assume that maybe I will need to get root on one or two phones, and one phone need's to be unlocked from the carrier.
Before doing this I would like to make a full backup of the phones.
1) How can I make a FULL backup of the android phones? In this moment my mother phone is a samsung galaxy mini2 Samsung Galaxy Mini 2 s6500 and mine is Sony Xperia L
2) a) If I will "unlock" the phone from the carrier (locked on orange, but i wish to use also Vodafone, I tim, I wind, moviestar, o2 etc)
b) If I will "root" the phone to gain administrator acces on it
After step A) and B) if I will restore the original backup, the phone will be "locked" back to Orange, and "un-rooted", or it will be "unlocked" and "un-rooted"?
3) Instead of having an hardisk like computer have, I guess the smartphone is using an "usb-stick/sd-card/ssdhdd"-like memory for storage of the operating system, so how can I see the partition table, the mbr, on the device?
I read somewhere that rooted phones can use the mobile hotspot feature that most come with, without Verizon knowing about it. I've also however heard that sometimes it still gets back to the carrier and they cancel your service. I've been using my tethering in very small doses because I'm not sure if big red is monitoring me. If they aren't I want to take full advantage of the tethering feature.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy girlfriend is headed overseas next week. We're trying to figure out how to use our phones to make calls over wifi. She has an Incredible and I have an Eris (both on Verizon). It looks like we can't use Skype because it requires Verizon network coverage to work. It looks like Gizmo5 with Google Voice may have been an option at one time, but Google shut that down by acquiring Gizmo5. So my question is, is there any way that we can make calls to each other over wifi?
