The Android phones have a setting that allows you to force the notification volume to match the ringer volume, I can't seem to find that setting anywhere in SDK, can someone help me find out how to get and set it that specific setting?

I'm really frustrated with this. If I adjust the ringer volume with the volume rockers on the side of the phone, it only applies to phone calls. Notification volume requires going into settings and adjusting by itself. Is there an app that forces all volumes to sync with the ringer volume?
View 2 Replies View RelatedIm looking for an app that will link all of the phones volumes (media/system/etc) to the ringer volume except for alarm volume. I need alarm volume to always be at max so I want it independent from this. I used to have an app that could do this but i forgot what it was and the only one ive been able to find after much searching, was one that links all volumes (alarm volume included). The prog i used before let me choose which volumes to link to ringer volume, rather than making them all linked.
View 4 Replies View RelatedOn my HTC desire, when I'm choosing a notification sound I no longer have the choice of just having it silent while I can still have the phone ringer on. I was able to do this with my old Droid back in the US and just wondering if anyone knew a way setup their Desire this way. Just I'm at work all day and still want to be able to hear calls but don't want a ping everytime I get an email or a text msg. Really appreciate any help people can give here.

View 2 Replies View RelatedFor some reason my ringer and notifications become disabled. Volume all the way up and not sounds from the ringer or email or system items. I can try and pick another sound but it never plays. Also the media is fine, music and videos all play fine. Only way I have found to get it back is to reboot the phone. Not sure if a program is causing it, but it is driving me up the wall and only happens every so often and it is not from a program I am running cause it is very random, and no one program causes it.

I get way too much email to have it play a sound every time one comes in, but I do still want to be able to see at a glance when I have new messages I've figured out how to change the ringtone, but there's no option to use no ringtone at all. I'm hoping there's a better solution than recording a blank ringtone!

When I turn the ringer volume down using the side buttons on my phone it only turns the ringer down, nothing else. When I lower the volume with the volume rocker switch, it only lowers the ring volume. Is there a way to set a global volume so that changing the volume changes ALL volumes together?

View 15 Replies View RelatedI noticed that when turning down the volume of the ringer with the volume rocker it doesn't automatically turn down the notification volume as well. Is there a way to set the volume rocker to adjust both notification and ringer volume to the same level? You can test this by going under Settings/Sound and Display/Ringer Volume...and try adjusting the volume with the rocker and it only adjust the Ringer Volume.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an app that plays intermittent sounds while its activity is open, and the user is always expecting it to make these noises, but unfortunately it is constrained by the music stream volume. The options I have discovered are thus:
Adjust the music stream's volume, possibly deafening the user if they happen to be playing music at the time.
Call MediaPlayer.setVolume() which is ineffective if the music stream's volume is 0. Handle volume button presses myself which presents two issues: volume button presses adjust the ringer volume unless my audio is playing, and I have been as of yet unable to catch the onKey event for a volume button press using my OnKeyListener. If there were some way to force the adjustment to apply to the music stream while my activity has focus, or to just catch the button presses myself this would work. Play a silent looping piece of audio in the background to keep the music stream in context for volume adjustments.
I think the 3rd option is probably best since it cedes control of the volume to the user, but if there were some way to just override the system volume in a single mediaplayer instance that would work too.
I need to insert approximately one million rows of data (spread over 4 tables) - each row has one or two numeric fields, and two or three text fields (normally quite short). Single-column indexes on all the fields. After doing some tests on the emulator with a small test set, I extrapolated (assuming the last row will be inserted with a similar speed to the first row) my results to figure out that this would take about 15 hours (I have a Core 2 Duo running Vista). However, then I tried running the small test set on my Hero and I was surprised to see it run more than four times faster. I would guess it would take about 3 hours on the Hero. Alternatively, I could make the pre-populated database available as a download on the first run but this is likely to be a 120MB download. I have a few questions I'm hoping someone can help me with: 1. SQLite performance on the actual device being 4-5 times faster compared to the emulator - is this normal/expected? 2. Do the figures above generally sound fast/slow/normal (sorry this is so vague)? 3. From a user perspective - would it be best to provide a 120MB download or a 3 hour "first-time initialisation" step (plus 6MB download)?

When I mount my EVO, all I see is my 8 gig micro SD card and no other volume. I was assuming that if I wanted to root, I'd need to actually see the EVO its self and not just the SD card.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have SCOURED this forum - and others - in search of an answer for my problem and have simply not found it. I accidently set up a ringtone to be the default ringer. Which is no big deal, except that now none of my custom ringers work. No matter who calls, it plays the default ringer. I have tried to change the custom ringer to something else (contact, options - and it says the correct name...plays the correct ringer when demo-ed), and change it back to what I wanted originally - didn't work.
Tried changing the default ringer and repeating the above - didn't work. Tried using two different ringer apps from the market - didn't work. I do not use any type of task killer, and don't know the slightest thing about rooting or anything of that nature. I restarted the phone several times. Also took the battery out while still on...didn't work. After all that...still rings the default ringer EVERY time. I'm at a total loss.
This morning when my alarm was supposed to go off, it didn't. I happened to wake up. I could see the alarm icon flashing on the screen. Later I set a new alarm and no sound. I tried dialing my phone and got no ring tone. I checked on the settings and everything was correct. No silent mode, etc. So then i shut the phone down and restarted it. Then everything was working fine. But..the alarm sound not working or phone sound not working is not good. You could not tell its not working until its too late.

However, if I ask the RingtoneManager to play the default ringer, it plays the default android ringer. Here is the code I'm using to play the default ringer:

The question is... Why is the "setActualDefaultRingtoneUri" method call not setting the default ringer?
My job takes me to the courthouse several times a week. If you forget to silence your ringer and the phone rings, the judge takes the phone and you have to travel back to the courthouse at the end of the day to recover it. The judge also gets really really mad and gives lots of grief. So I need a failsafe way to automatically turn off the ringer while in the courthouse. I read this thread Set profile by GPS location about a program named Locale, but it indicated that if the phone loses the GPS signal, Locale will automatically revert the phone to the default profile or some other profile. I come from a Symbian phone where the phone would "learn" every cell tower ID in a given area and then set the phone's profile upon getting a signal from one of those towers. The profile would stick, regardless of losing the signal, unless and until it got a signal from a different tower which was not on the list it had "learned" from the location area. That is failsafe. Is there anything for an Android based phone which will silence the ring on a failsafe basis?

I am facing a weird behavior these days with my new HTC legend. My ringer volume gets muffled automatically after 5 or 10 sec on getting a call. I have already disabled "quiet ring on pick up" feature. Then also this problem is coming up. I have googled this n come to know that i am not the only one. Some folks have found a workaround that if they choose "WCDMA only" network in network settings then this problem is not there. But I don't have 3G connectivity in my area. What should I do?
