View 1 Replies View RelatedI have decided to go to a smartphone on 13th June when my present contract expires. My Query is, I am in the U.K. and if I look at contracts for the iphone they normally include unlimited Wifi and 1Gb of wireless data, whereas the Desire seems to come with only 500Mb of wireless.
I would much prefer to get a Desire, but I am concerned that I could be lumbering myself with excess charges if I go over the 500Mb limit.
I have never had a phone with an Internet connection before so I'm sure that there will be a lot of playing going on at least to start with.
I have just recently downloaded 'stats' to keep a record of useage. I am finding it hopelessly unreliable in terms of texts. It makes obvious mistakes clearly evident from when I do random checks.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just got a Hero, its really cool, but I'm worried about how much data this thing is going to eat up. I've got a 500MB limit, but I dont really know how long that will last. So heres a few questions
How do I know if the phone is accessing the internet through WiFi or not? Obviously WiFi doesnt count towards the limit, so I want to know that I'm using it as often as possible.
Do widgets on the home page count towards your data limit? I've got a weather widget, facebook, bbc news, email, all getting their info from the internet. Is this going to be raking up the MBs while the phone is just sat in my pocket?
Is there a number I can ring to see how much data I've used? I'm with Orange. A number to call to check my texts and minutes would be helpful, too.
does anyone know an easyway to get straight to the current useage details from 3 in your account other than clicking away at several screens to get into it.Is there a widget? or similar.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have noticed that when I text *3282# to check my data useage, the notification ringer gets switched to low and I have to go in to settings to change it back. Anyone else have this same issue?

After playing some music via wifi using Radio Time for an hour, the temperature was 109 degrees Fahrenheit and the phone was warm. Now I know the temp would go up, but is is this abnormally high? Is this normal? Do I have anything to be worried about cause I love this app and don't want to stop using it.
View 16 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone notice that 'Android System' battery usage is very high?
I ran a test where i displayed just a photo
Battery Indicator
3G Watchdog
Photos
Advanced Task Killer Free
within 20 minutes the results on the battery are the following:
Android System: 63%
Display: 24%
Cell standby 13%
Any thoughts on to what might be causing Android System to be so high, only them programs are running. Does this happen to your system? I notice with web browsing its about the same usage as well, with wifi and internet taking up small amounts.
This is not a battery life thread, in short all I wish to know is whether the Droid X battery (which stupidly only reads in 10% intervals) is reported higher or lower than its actual value?
For example, when it is at 70% reported, is it at 79% (or lower)? Or is it at 61% or higher? Obviously logic says it rounds down so it is always showing battery levels lower than it actually is (which is good because your battery is always higher than what it tells you), but it is also plausible that it ticks down (to 70%) when it actually hits 70%, then stays there until it gets down to 60%.
Not really a support question but its something I've been wondering, I assume it is the former as that makes the most sense from both a mathematical standpoint and a logical standpoint (show less battery than you really have left and you will not run out of battery when the phone goes into its battery reserve state).
I've been trying some battery widgets, and I like a lot that HTC battery widget, with the battery icon and the "battery" written down. It's a pity that this one's only for 480x320 displays. Is there a version of it for 800x480 displays?
View 1 Replies View RelatedAn hour after my G1 phone was fully charged, the "Battery Usage" showed me that my game had used 20% of the battery usage. Except, I never ran my game (I had run the game before starting the charge). I checked TasKiller, and it didn't list my game as running (my game also doesn't run any services). When I clicked on the details of the battery usage for my game, it didn't list anything under the "Use details" section. Is it possible to use battery, but not have anything listed under the "Use details" section?
View 5 Replies View RelatedBefore everybody redirects me to the standard "ways to extend your battery life" threads, I believe I've tried all the usual tricks, which is why I'm posting another thread. This is really starting to drive me nuts. Up until a few weeks ago, I was getting good battery life. A couple of days worth with normal usage, which I think is reasonable with all considered. But now, it lasts about half a day, which is obviously not much use when you can only charge it at night.I've been checking the "awake time" and sometimes it just keeps staying high. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. When the awake time is high, it is also warm to the touch, as if it is doing a lot of processing or something.
I've also been using "spare parts" to see what appears under "partial awake". I have never seen anything under this which accounts for the awake time. For example, the awake time might say "15 hrs", but "partial awake" in spare parts shows the biggest thing as being "Android system", but only taking "2 mins".I have (as far as I can tell) disabled the standard HTC messages app, and am now using Handcent SMS.I have turned off bluetooth and GPS, but leave wifi and mobile data on. I know switching these off saves power, but I've always had them on without as much drain as I do now.I have done a factory reset, and reinstalled all my usual apps, and left off any which I don't really need. All seemed well for a few days, but then the drain started again.
I have a feeling my battery drain is due to an update to an app, but as it's not consistent, I can't figure out which app or update it could be.As it is, with the battery lasting for less time than I am out in the day, it makes it a really rubbish phone, and just not fit for purpose. Is there any other way, other than using "spare parts", that I can tell what is using my power?
Well recently, its been getting REALLY hot here in New York. And with it, my battery temperature has been idling in the 30-35 range, higher in my pocket, and therefore its been at 40 constantly. I've done nothing today with it besides maybe 15 minutes of music via headphones total, and I'm getting like 17 hour battery life. I used to get this while spamming apps, playing around, browsing, etc. Does temperature increase battery use or is it time to switch ROMs (Petes 0.8 has been a battery drain on me).

View 31 Replies View RelatedI have lately flashed CM10.1 nightly on my GT-I9300 and am experiencing high battery drain (twice-three times what I had before), and get over 1%/h over the night when all is turned off.I have read a lot about fast battery drain reasons, but couldn't find an answer to mine.I've downloaded better battery stats to check for any abnormal activity, but it seems normal to me (dump attached).
Note, I've installed the cm10.1 straight from my internal memory and I do not have an external SD card. Also, from the dump file it seems that the phone was mostly in deep sleep mode and I see no reason then why it wouldn't just drain at 1-2% per 8h.
For those that suffer from poor battery life or high awake times, I was given a code to enter that will give you all kinds of hidden info about the battery and what programs are running in the background keeping the phone from sleeping. Hit phone, as if you were dialing a number to call, enter *#*#4636#*#*, then talk. You will seee a menu come up that you can change to show you all kinds of hidden info on the phone and battery. Hope this helps some of you that are suffering poor battery performance and high awake times.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am a new android user, and got my Droid 2 the morning they came out at the Verizon store. Now the guy that was helping me at the store told me that the battery life would be bad because of the high resolution screen but I didn't expect it to be this bad. I have been having really bad battery issues and I don't even use it constantly. I have it on around 20% brightness during the day, and I really only send text messages, and some web browsing but not a huge amount. My battery will be drained after 6 hours or so, and will need a charge again. When checking on battery manager it does say that most of my energy is going to my screen, but like I said I don't even have it close to the full brightness. I have been using an app killer program to try to maintain that also, but I did read somewhere that it can actually hurt your battery more, from closing and opening apps. Just wanted to hear some feedback from other users since we a couple days after launch. Everything else has been great with this phone, and I am REALLY enjoying the android OS after switching from a Blackberry.
View 49 Replies View RelatedMy speaker buzzes all the time on my phone (not the speaker phone - it works fine). It's not a network buzz, it's a vibration buzz of the metal or speaker. The center camera is also off-center a little bit, which makes me think something up there is off-center, misglued or loose.
We have two other evos and neither of them buzz on the same call. I called the Sprint Nav Voice Address thing from all 3 phones since that would be the exact same voice and words every time. Only mine buzzes. The other two don't have the camera problem either.
Anyway to lower the max value in setCPU with the phone off? I was testing higher number and i froze up. It doesn't run long enough for me to lower the value.

A high-res version of the HTC_ime has been released. It works well on the Droid and N1.
Voice input works as well.
Still kind of buggy in landscape mode.
I'm wondering if theres a descent app which serves primarily as a text messenger but with an easy interface to insert a video or image. Guess I got spoiled from this feature on the iphone...

View 8 Replies View RelatedSo we have 2 Incredibles on a family plan and with this chatter of eventual data caps, I just was curious and took a look at our recent data usage on myverizon to see where we stand.I average about 5gb a month while my significant other is around 20gb! I am a moderately heavy web user (although I don't really have anyone to compare to, but I check the internet a lot during the day out of sheer boredom at work) and he by all means is not.Can somebody explain what exactly eats data and how it works? We are mostly just curious and are guessing it's an app. But *what* is doing it? Like does it draw data from the internet or something? Is that app updating or refreshing? The only thing I know about data is like if you refresh a page on the internet, then data is used. I refreshed a website twice and my usage according to 3d watchdog jumped about 1mb. Is that normal? Is it also normal for there to be data usage while your phone is asleep?
