HTC EVO 4G :: ZAGG Has My Official Seal Of "least Crappiest Protective Skin"
Jul 7, 2010
I tried them all. Went buck wild and spent a mint on trying to get one that I like. ZAGG didn't fit right around the edges and I had to take a nail scissors to it to get it to fit. But it seems to not ruin the display. Which I don't get. When I had my blackberry all these skins were great on it. I guess the Evo just doesn't play well with skins. I have a feeling I might just go back to the Sprint non-glare screen, which was great, and get a small case. Maybe that Argyle one. Wish it wasn't such a big hassle!

Does anyone know where I can find the keyboard protective skin/cover that comes with the Moment? I think it does a great job of protecting the keyboard but I've had mine long enough that it has begun to peel off. But I can't seem to find it anywhere online for purchase.

That's right. I picked up the gel skin at a T-Mobile store today. Charging my phone tonight when I smelled a burning rubber type scent. Lovely.

Do you like the skins (Htc sense) that are on some Android phones, or do you like the base Android install?

Does anybody know how to change the clock skin back to original after uninstalling a clock skin? When you uninstall a clock skin, it uninstalls but the skin remains.

Some users are reporting that they have dust under their screen. Hopefully it was a manufacturing error and didn't get in there post assembly. However recent reports of other users saying water freely got under their screen when they installed a screen or body shield have me concerned. Is there a reasonable way to absolutely and definitively seal the area around the screen to prevent dust entry? It would have to be invisible to the eye for it to be feasible. I was thinking that a black thread inserted in the gap might act like a gasket and completely eliminate the possibility of dust entry. I don't know if this is even possible to do and I am too chicken to attempt it. But if it worked it would be removable too. Any thoughts on this or other ideas?

I'm on my second one now, soon to be third, first one for reception issues, second one because the seal around the screen isn't fitted properly. As it goes, both handsets have had this problem.
I called HTC earlier and they said to return the handset as the seal shouldn't be like that. So I called Orange and they're swapping it. I don't think it's a big deal and it doesn't bother me but I know I'd regret not getting it sorted if a few months down the line there's a load of dust under the screen.
Out of curiosity, how many other people have a bad seal around the screen? It seems to affect the top of the screen for most people. You'll notice it if you tilt it back and forth and the light catches bits of metal/components inside the phone.
I've attached a pic from another forum (they couldn't get a photo to come out right either so it shows the effect of the gap, as opposed to the actual gap itself).

HTC now has an in store fix for the flying screen syndrome but you can do this at home. Take a credit card or similar type of item and wedge it in between the screen and the phones frame lifting the screen bottom as much as you can without causing further lifting damage. Then remove the battery door and locate the two holes in the photo with the tooth picks. Put a couple drops of crazy glue in each hole then remove the credit cards and quickly clamp the screen down for about a half hour. Clothes pins might work as make shift clamps try therm before starting. If you can get your screen up enough to put the crazy glue tip directly under the screen you can do this also but use very little glue and dot it maybe 4 times across the area for a good even hold then clamp. I would tape off the screen and phone frame just in case some leaks out by accident doing this method. Once the screen is secure use automotive black silicone adhesive sealant I like Permatex brand found at WalMart (now this stuff can also be used to glue the screen down but will take longer to dry 12 hours put it on a tooth pick and shove it under the lifted screen bottom then clamp) You can take this black silicone and dab a small amount around the screen crack and with your finger or a q tip force it in the light leak crack then simply take a tissue and wipe off any excess silicone before it sets you will have no damage to the phone from spilling it just wipe it off. You should now just have a tiny bit shoved in the crack with all the rest wiped off. let it set and you are done!

And how many people use a skin or case, or even screen protector. Personally, I won't leave the house without my otterbox commuter case on, I just feel like it would be for me to leave me house without clothes on, Dones't feel right.

I have a Droid with protective case...is there any car dock that works with the case? I got a Droid 2 car dock based on the recent video and it does not work with the protective case. I have the protective case that Verizon sells with the criss-cross pattern on it. I don't see any other markings to identify it more clearly.
I need a solution where I can dock the Droid in the car (with power to the Droid) while still in the case. Does anyone know of a combination that works? I searched the forums but could not find an answer to this specific request.

Just wondering if there can ever be a protective case made for the Droid. I understand it is a slider and I've never had a slider before. Done a google search and came up with nothing.

So I noticed some (protective) plastic on the back of the sliding screen today. I gave it a little flick to see if it was meant to stay, but it peeled right off. Seems to be part of the plastic films put on before shipping. Can't believe I haven't seen this in over 2 months (of course I rarely slide it open).Sliding mechanism is much smoother now and certainly not loose. It has also opened up a whole new Droid Feature: It is so shiny and reflective on the back of the slider now, if you get lost in the woods and are out of cel reception, you can use the back of the slider to reflect the sun and signal the rescue plane while still playing your favorite game to pass the time Droid does Survival tool!

Did you pull the blue tab to remove the clear protective backing between phone and keyboard? My D1 didn't have the tab, I did pull the backing off, and always regretted it as it felt smoother/firmer with it on. What did you guys do - remove or not, and any regrets if you removed it?

I dropped mine about 1-2 feet onto the sidewalk and the glass shattered. I'm currently trying to decide whether I want to pay the $162 to get it fixed or sell it for parts on ebay. Thing is, Samsung claims they've only had to replace the glass on 3 captivates so far, and I cannot find a single screen-damaged Captivate on ebay past or present. Did I just have really really bad luck with my drop? I find it hard to believe that so few are getting broken. If I do fix and keep my Captivate I want to get a really protective case for it.

Is it just me, or are they hard to put on? I used one of the 50% off coupons to pick up a shield for 10 bucks. When I got it, it took me 3-4 times to put it on, and still there were bubbles, even after 24 hours of drying.I contacted them and they were pretty much no help as I did everything already that they suggested. So I went to Best Buy today to pick up another one and to have them them install it for $7.99. It looks FANTASTIC. It took him about 3 minutes to do! They did have their own bottle of some liquid not the standard one that came in the package. Anyway, if you have trouble or want it done right, have them do it!

What's your vote? They both look like strong contenders but it also looks like the Inv.Shields are thin and stretchy and the Clarivue are more stiff. Wouldn't stiffness aid in easy installation and fewer bubbles. How do these screens look through polarized sunglasses?

A week ago I received the Invisible Shield from Zagg in the mail and was very excited. I read the instructions, saw some installation videos on youtube and after 1 hour of preparation i was ready for the install. The installation process is a nightmare as you have to apply the solution while keeping the shield from sticking to itself and its a PIA to align correctly. I installed the back cover first and after many tries I had it correctly aligned but it didn't fit perfectly meaning there were areas that the shield did not cover completeley such as corners which are the most prone to damage. Next I installed the screen protector OMFG what a POS. It had bubbles all over even after using the squegee card. I thought I'd give it a few days for them to clear up as Zagg claims that within 24 hrs they disappear. They did not go away and it made the screen look bad especially on a white background. Needless to say the smaller pieces are also a nightmare to install. Anyways, today I saw my phone and got tired of looking at that Zagg crap and at the sticky feel it gives the phone and took it off and went back to what I had before.I had the siliicone case from the sprint store and the screen protector from the sprint store which had worked perfectly since november: not a single scratch and no dust problems. So really beware of the Zagg products, at least I got it for free so it didn't hurt to throw it away.

wanted to get some user reviews on both Zagg invisible shield and BodyGuardz. Mainly concerned with how they hold up and how the look through the shield and how fingerprints are.

I got a full body zagg today and on the way home when I tried to use the car mount it started to peel the corners off in the back. Does this only happen when the zagg is new and not all the way secure or did I make a mistake and need to peel of the back pieces?Just curious if anyone else have both the zagg and car mount and if so if people are having the same results as me.
