Replacement for the OTA upgrade bricking. Will see what I get I sure hope its a good one.
I picked up my phone on launch day, version 2 hw. I was having a bit of the grounding issue, but the big problem was light leakage onto the screen. The whole bottom of the screen was brighter than the top. And the headphone port was junk. So I finally got my replacement yesterday, hoping to get a better phone. I turn it on, and its still a version 2 hardware. Looks good though as I played with it throughout the day. This morning I had some time to really look at it, and noticed a bunch of problems. The battery cover does not fit properly, the whole right side doesnt click in. It's literally just hanging there and has fallen off twice already. The grounding issue is bad on this phone, it wont even work in my gps holder in my car. And I am getting serious light leakage on the bottom of the phone now. I can literally stick my whole fingernail in between the bottom of the screen and the bezel. So what should I do here? Should I just try to get another replacement from RS and HOPE it works better? Or should I try to complain to Sprint about it? Sprint already told me they cant do anything yet since its within the 30 day purchase period. I really dont have time to be running back and forth to RS all week waiting for a replacement.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI have now called 5 different stores in my area (Anaheim, CA) and all have said they are only selling to new and upgrade eligible customers the first day. They are NOT selling any unactivated on Friday at all. If you are paying full retail and planning to go to RS, you may want to call and make sure they will sell you one.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy 6-day old Evo needs to be exchange due to a faulty vibrating motor. Instead of just swapping out my Evo with one in stock in the store, the gentlemen in charge tells me he must have them ship him a new one before I can exchange. How crazy is that?Anyone else have a problem exchanging the phone?

View 2 Replies View RelatedIt seems a lot of "first bills" are now posted on your Sprint Account. For those of you who are NEW SPRINT CUSTOMERS and bought your device at either SAM'S CLUB or RAT-IO SHACK and who are supposed to get a "corporate discount" of some type:
Did that discount show up on your first bill? SAMS or RAT SHACK ONLY!
I use Google Voice on my new Droid and love it. I am trying to use it for SMS but my problem/question is - how do I set it to notify me that a SMS has arrived? I realize there is a lag in receiving these but that's not my problem. I'll open GV and see 5 SMS messages that have been there for an hour and I received no notification.
View 4 Replies View RelatedAnyone else get an Incredible through the mail from Verizon that arrived with a dead battery? And by "dead" I mean that it will not take a charge. Mine arrived yesterday. I plugged in the battery and started to get to know the phone. After 10 minutes or so, I got the "plug in" message. Well, by the time I got the charger cord ready, the phone had shut off. That was 18 hours ago. It's been on the AC charger since then, but the phone will not power on. I'm HOPING it's the battery.

All I get when I bring up the camera app is a reddish/pink background with "snow". Anyone else encounter this problem?I'm assuming I've got the latest updates for the phone as it just arrived. View 5 Replies View RelatedThis is why I hate buying anything at Radio Shack, they pretty much make the majority of their people act like used car salesman. I went in and said I wanted to pre order the Evo to which the sales clerk tried to tell me I should get the iPhone 3gs. Seriously dude? So then I explain why I don't want an iPhone and the reasons I want the Evo. Listing multiple reasons making it obvious I have done my research and am not a n00b around phones. So what does this guy do? He asks me if I've seen a picture of the phone...now this was done because he was actually trying to be helpful and explain the size. But duh of course I've seen the phone if I know that much about it. I was even able to complete the sentence he was making about it being the size of the HD2. So anyways after trying to talk me out of it and then asking me those questions, he then tells me how he got to play with one the other day and it was amazing. Now if it was so amazing why were you trying to talk me out of it?
This leads me to another point. I then asked how the pre orders were going. At first he said they were great, then made some back handed comment about Best Buy doing better because they get more people. Which on one hand is probably true, but maybe it's because when you walk in you aren't upselled down your throat to buy every little thing in the store or told you should get something you don't want. I am dreading having to go in and for them to convince me I need some added on warranty through them when I already have insurance through Sprint. Then the guy asks my girlfriend (who has an iPhone) where she got her iPhone. She tells him the AT&T store, and then guilts her about it. WTF? Why do you think we went to the AT&T store? Because she is with AT&T. When I need stuff done for a existing phone with the company I am on I go to the Sprint store, not Radio Shack AKA The Shack AKA Wanted to sound hip so we copied KFC but it's not working.
The worst part of all of this, is this guy was just genuinely trying to do his job, which is a problem with management and the chain all together. They put so much pressure on these guys to "sell sell sell" that they end up scaring off customers. Of course this one incident is not indicitive of all Radio Shacks and I'm sure there are good people, in fact I had a good experience buying an HD Reciever there for an old T.V. The employee was nice and actually stopped me from buying a more expensive unit, then because he had to try to get me to do the warranty, he then whispered about how I didn't need it so I should just say no. That actually made tell a friend to go get the same one at Radio Shack that I had. However when someone asks about buying a Evo my first instinct will be to go to Best Buy or Sprint.
Ok Rant over. Now the numerous edits to correct my sloppy typing because I'm at the beach and too lazy to look it over.
I also should add I asked about the mini HDMI cable for the 20$ accessory since he kept shoving that down my throat as to why I was smart to pick Radio Shack (I wanted to tell him the truth that I was afraid Best Buy was out of pre orders). He said they didn't have them but would. I then mentioned how I probably wouldn't buy one there since the official ones would be like 30 dollars and I could get one online for 8. His response was it was practically the same price since I got 20 bucks free. Fair enough, but still not gonna happen dude. I assured him I would spend the 20 bucks and he needn't worry, but the HDMI cable was not in my future through Radio Shack.
I read around and I saw that people do not like it when "uneducated" people call their android powered device a droid.

View 2 Replies View RelatedNot sure if this is the right place to post this up, but I figure there's going to be a lot of you coming from other non-Android handsets. I've got a TP 2 - good l' WinMo. I've grown pretty attached to it and there's a couple of apps I'm -really- going to miss and I hope a couple of you know of some good alternatives:
GPS Speedo(.exe) - Just a single exe file, all it does is make the whole screen white, with large black numbers in the center. It used the phone's GPS to measure your speed (in MPH or KPH). Any Android equivalent?
OBD Gauge - Data logging of OBD II cars via serial or, in my case, blue tooth. I used this to data log my car, or when I'm working on tuning other vehicles. This one is kinda indispensable. I'm really hoping someone will know of an alternative to this one. It connects over blue tooth by connecting via BT serial port.
G Alarm - Excellent alarm app. I use my phone to wake me up every morning. This will re-play alarms after 10 minutes, unless totally dismissed, even require a simple math problem to dismiss/snooze the alarm. I don't have such high requirements I just want a good morning alarm clock style app that will wake me up every morning.
My dinc is defective so verizon will be sending me a replacement. will the phone be a refurb?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI need to split a date string into pieces and I'm doing it using the public final StringBuffer format (Object object, StringBuffer buffer, FieldPosition field) from the java.text.DateFormat class. However, the implementation of this function is really slow, hence Android has an own implementation in android.text.format.DateFormat. BUT, in my case, I want to extract the different pieces of the date string (year, minute and so on). Since I need to be locale independent, I can not use SimpleDateFormat and custom strings. I do it as follows: Code...
For some reason, the format() overload with the FieldPosition argument is not included in the android platform. Any ideas of how to do this in another way? Is there any easy way to tokenize the pattern string? Any other ideas?
I am getting the random shutoffs constantly now. Also recently my phone will no longer connect up with my computer, it tells me in the notifications that the USB is connected even when it isn't(idk if this one is a common problem or not). But my question is whether or not I can get a replacement. I bought my phone in late August and these problems have been on and off since beginning of October. I do not have insurence because I came from an iphone4 and didn't realize insurance was available on the Captivate(I called literally one day after the 30 window expired and the lady wouldn't give it to me, thanks ATT).

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am running into an issue with the way my asynctasks are executed. Here's the problem code:
firstTask = new background().new FirstTask(context);
if(firstTask.execute().get().toString().equals("1"))
secondTask = new background().new SecondTask(context);
What I'm doing here is creating a new asynctask object, assigning it to firstTask and then executing it. I then want to fire off a separate asynctask when the first one is done and making sure it returns a success value (1 in this case). This works perfectly on Android 2.0 and up. However, I am testing with Android 1.5 and problems start popping up. The code above will run the first asynctask but doInBackground() is never called despite onPreExecute() being called. If I am to execute the first task without the get() method, doInBackground() is called and everything works as expected. Except now I do not have a way to determine if the first task completed successfully so that I can tell the second task to execute. Is it safe to assume that this is a bug with asynctask on Android 1.5? Especially since the API says that the get method has been implemented since API 3. Is there any way to fix this? Or another way to determine that the first task has finished?
