View 4 RepliesI did search and install wifi tethering but for some reason it doesn't work so this is what I have and my question:
1. I installed wifi tethering. The app seems to work and it indicates my laptop connected. My laptop wifi icon indicated connected but I can't get any internet on explorer. Is there something I miss?
2. I also heard that install USB driver from this forum will do the trick but I can't get it to work? Do I have to install Kies on my laptop?
3. I have a paid version of PDAnet but can't set it up.
I have rooted my captivate and downloaded Barnacle, both the legacy and the beta version and both are discoverable from my laptop and ipod touch but none of them can actually connect, I went through all the settings and played around to no avail. I then tried "wireless tether" app which I can't seem to find in appbrain to link but the icon is the WiFi signal strength bar in green if that helps, the only thing this app does is say wi-fi tethering is on but the device doesn't show up at all. My question is are there ANY wifi tethering apps that are currently compatible with a rooted Captivate?

Just installed this apk typing this wireless.
I've been reading some posts here and see that AT&T locks down tethering downloading. I tried using my wifi, that didn't work. Tried using AppBrain as a marketto download pdanet or easytether and I get a message saying, "The requested item could not be found"
View 2 Replies View RelatedWell I've been a long time user of WinMo and Iphones. The android world is all new to me. I have a few questions that hopefully are quick to answer:
1)Has anyone used the tethering that came built into the phone? That seems to be the only one that works for me. I tried PDAnet but I can't get it to work. But has anyone noticed that the internet is very slow when tethering?
2)I have rooted the phone and would like to remove some of the AT&T bloatware and what not but before I do, how easy is it to restore the phone back to factory? is it a matter of just using the restore to defaults option? Depending on my experience i may or may not return the phone in the 30 days.
3)Does anyone suggest a nice fast IM program. I'm using Palringo but there seems to be a nice big lag in between switching from buddy lists to chats.
Will it be possible to tether the epic 4g to a laptop (perhaps through USB) instead of using the wifi hot spot capability? The wifi router/hot spot option is an additional $30 a month and I don't anticipate I will need the option often enough to justify the cost. Is there an option to tether epic4g without the wifi hot spot option?
View 2 Replies View RelatedDoes it cost more and if it just uses my data plan, how much data would it use?

View 2 Replies View RelatedAs per requests I have started a new thread. I would like a few people to test it out and see if they can get it working. I have been using it for a few weeks now and has worked perfectly on various Wireless devices that can connect to AD-Hoc Networks. Here are the steps that I followed: Code:

Got a Samsung Galaxy Nexus that I continually use for Wifi Tethering. The only problem is that it tends to run hot and sometimes reboot since it's continually being used. Is there a way I can fix it with an app? Or is there a cooling dock I can use (like Laptops use)?

View 8 Replies View Relatedphones worked good other then gps issue. recently after iv had the phone for 30 days it just stopped scanning for wifi access and wont turn on wifi at all.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if the 3G is not lit up and I don't have E the box or WI-fi, what the heck am I connected to? Seems that the 3G has a mind of its own, south FL. But if it's not on nothing else comes on either. Is this right? Now that I have my GPS fixed this goes out.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I first got my Captivate and turned on WIFI the WIFI symbol would pop up and take the place of the 3G symbol at the top but lately I've noticed that when I turn on the WIFI both symbols remain at the top.
I have the unlimited data plan so using up data is not a problem for me. I'm just worried about battery life. Is my phone using both at the same time? Is that even possible? How do I go about fixing this?
I can't seem to get a 3G connection, I just updated to 2 gigs today, how can I set it up?
View 2 Replies View RelatedNo connectivity at all on my Captivate. Wifi networks can't be saved, and the 3G symbol is up there, but there's nothing being transmitted or received. Should I do a factory reset? The phone part works, as does messaging, but nothing else.
View 27 Replies View RelatedI swear that WiFi seems to quit working half the time. I'll be browsing the web, it will quit working, and I can turn WiFi off and 3G works just fine. When I re enable Wifi, it works for a bit and then does it again. I'm on a 24MB/s Internet connection, and everything else wireless in the home works fine(my iPhone 4 works flawlessly).
View 11 Replies View RelatedI seem to be the only one having this particular issue with the Captivate. With a new sim card i have 3G, take it home and put it on wifi overnight, and the next day i cannot get 3G. have done reboot, soft reset, master reset, toggle flight mode off/on. The only thing that gets 3G back is another sim card. I have gone through 2 phones and 4 sim cards with this. Samsung support is scratching their heads, any ideas from the android community?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a new Samsung Captivate, and I can't keep the wifi off. No matter how many times I go to settings (or use the pull-down curtain), and switch off the wifi, within a minute or so, the wifi comes on again. It also turns itself off again periodically when this happens. I don't have any after market power manager installed. I suspect this may be down to an app, but have no idea where to start looking for the solution.
View 8 Replies View RelatedSomething new - under Wifi Settings / Advanced - I have Wi-Fi set to sleep when display is off. This doesn't seem to be the case. My WiFi is Always on. I would imagine that the icon would disappear like it does when WiFi is turned off, but when the phone is asleep and then wakes up, the WiFi connection is still there. Anything I can try to fix this? I have tried changing the WiFi sleep policy to the other 2, then changing it back to display power - didn't work. I did have to reboot the phone last night because I couldn't get WiFi to turn off, but I don't have a problem today with turning it on or off, just won't go to "sleep"
View 2 Replies View RelatedLast night my wife was trying to update her cached stations on slacker radio and although connected to wifi slacker gave a notification that the data would be downloaded over 3g and an unlimited plan was recomended. The strange thing is I had full strength connection to wifi but the 3g icon was still there and and the red and green arrows were showing data transfer over 3g. When connected to wifi on my captivate the 3g icon disappears. A simple power down fixed the problem and wifi was present and no 3g icon in the status bar.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've heard everyone mention that setting wifi to never sleep has helped battery life but I can't figure out where to find the controls for that policy.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIt did this morning, I went to work, now its not working again.. It sees the wireless network, but keeps trying to "obtain address" I have a Linksys wrt "something or another" Router.?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to find out if m really using wifi instead of my att data. is there a way to do this?
View 4 Replies View RelatedIt's become a standard recommendation on battery-related threads: Set WiFi to stay on when the phone goes into sleep mode.
My understanding is that 3G is only active when data is being transferred. But when WiFi is on and connected, it is ALWAYS on and connected.
Let's say I sleep for 8 hours at night, and I have apps that update every 30 minutes. Do I want WiFi to be connected for the entire 8 hours, or just let the phone use 3G for a total of 16 times (8 hours / 30 minutes)?
For some reason, my WIFI is no longer auto-connecting to networks. I have to go into WIFI settings and manually connect to a network. This happens if, for example, I'm on WIFI at work and then come home, it does not auto-connect to my wireless network without manually connecting it.
