Getting the evo on Friday - want to move my long history of palm data over. Any best recommendations would be appreciated - want contacts, datebook, memos and ideally ewallet (will contact them) to convert. Will buy a program if worth it.

Here's my current setup which I'm assuming I may have to modify. Current Phone: Palm Centro I have an external email account and a Gmail account. My Gmail account is setup to check my other account via Gmail's POP3 system. I then use MS Outlook to check my Gmail account. All my data is in Outlook. Calendar, Contacts, and emails. I'm getting a new Android phone and need to get the same contacts and such onto there.
Technically, the same emails that are in Outlook are in Gmail so that's not a problem.
I also use Google's Calendar sync program so my outlook calendar is also in Gmail so I assume that wouldn't be a problem either. This leaves me with my contacts. Is there a preferred program that will sync my outlook contacts to Gmail like I do with my calendar? Or is there some other way that people have used that works just as well? I will continue to use Outlook as my primary contact/calendar management program but just want everything to sync across to the phone.
I've just bought a Hero and want to sync the calendar on the phone with the Palm Calendar on my PC- can this be done?

Anyway, to prepare for the move, how do I get my Palm contacts into Gmail's contacts? Is that how it works? I need to move my Palm contacts to Gmail contacts, right? View 1 Replies View RelatedI've use Palm since the Palm Pilot 1000 a 128k PDA & various other since. My data is current in both Palm Desktop (5 Star PIM) and Treo 650. I am interesting in importing Contacts and Memo's into the Android 2.1 phone (HTC Desire) and the info spread among a dozen or so groups. I don't want to use the Cloud or Googles cloud tools. I hate Outlook as a PIM and don't believe it will handle the groups anyway. But more importantly I don't want my data in Outlook nor do I want its info or mail in my Android phone. With Palm as a PDA and Smartphone originator in this field I would have expected much better support to import data. BB Curves Desktop does it seamlessly since I tested that 2 years ago. Android phones don't even have a default memo app. Is someone asleep at the switch their?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just pre-ordered the EVO yesterday. Since this is at Radio Shack, I am assuming that they won't be able to transfer the contacts from me pre to the EVO. Is this correct? I decided to go ahead and fix all my contacts on gmail anyway just in case. This gives me something to do while waiting for my EVO.... Will the Evo import all my contacts when I log into my gmail account and set it as my main sync account? What I am doing is this:
1. I installed the 'contacts to email' patch using preware and exported all my contacts as a vcard file. This is probably a good idea anyway. I don't completely trust "cloud" storage.
2. I sent myself the email and then imported this vcard file into gmail contacts. This resulted in about 350 contacts in gmail. I'm now working through them doing edits and combining duplicates. Is this the best way to prepare my contacts for the EVO?
Have been using Palm for many years with multiple contacts, which transfered over with first name rather than last-any ideas? Multiple memos, and the transfer by sprint resulted in one big file. Getting used to the phone, if I could only use my multiple memos!

The screen is really pink, I thought I could handle it, but it's really bothering me - especially since I use the auto backlight, so it's sometimes dim enough that the pink is very pronounced. The pink screen issue is NOT the point of this thread. I've read the other threads. I've read the other sources cited in those threads, the ones citing particular types of AMOLED displays using a particular layout of subpixels causing more pronounced reds. I understand it all, but I've also seen pictures of side by side Incredibles - one very pink, one very white. Pictures don't lie. I don't know what to believe, but if I go test an Incredible, and it's whiter, I want it. Sorry to waste so much space on this post with this, I just know how it goes on forums, and don't want to get into an argument over the pink screen issue.
That said - Here's my question: What's the best way to move everything over to my new incredible? I doubt I'll have the opportunity to have both in hand at home, meaning I'll need to copy whatever I'm going to copy before bringing it back. I primarily run Linux, but have access to a Windows machine as well. Contacts and e-mail come from Google, so I'm not worried about those. I'm primarily concerned with my Sense layout and installed apps.
I need to get the progress of a couple of games and a few other apps to my new phone. I am not rooted, and I am not necessarily interested in doing that either. Is there a way to do it without being rooted?

I am able to set my captivate to "media player" under the USB settings and Windows Media Player is able to see it. I move files into the sync list and start to sync. It all works perfectly until, for whatever reason with no consistency, WMP freezes. I've concluded it's because the Captivate stops responding but I can't find a solution. The music files are not a problem since they are already condensed in mp3 format. But I need a solution for syncing pictures. Double Twist ignores the original folders and lumps every picture into one folder called "Images", so that's pointless.

How can I move data files of gameloft games to external SD? Without root? For newer gameloft games like Asphalt7, the location seems to be sdcard/Android/obb/GameName. I want to change it to something like
sdcard/external_sdAndroid/obb/GameName.
I know that by rooting, I can use apps like Directory Bind, GL2SD, etc to do this. But I don't want to root my phone just yet, as I want the warranty to run over.
I don't mind decompiling the APKs individually to get the job done. But when I decompiled the APK of one such game using apktool/apkmanager, the set of XMLs that I got didn't have the cache location (I searched for "sdcard" in all the XMLs using Notepad++ but couldn't find anything).
I know of a "Gameloft Patcher" that can do something like this, but it is for older gameloft games, where the cache location is sdcard/gameloft/games.
I would like to specify the cache location myself, as it varies individually for each game. That's why I thought of decompiling the APKs, but couldn't get it to work.
Just got my X10 and will surely buy a bigger SD card. However, there is a lot of stuff on the SD that came with the phone including stuff from apps that I have loaded. What is the best way to move all that to a new SD without looing any functions?

I've only noticed this when I've come to pull the phone out of my pocket. I tell it to just carry on using my mobile network for data connectivity.
When I return home, instead of returning to the Wi-Fi network, it carries on using my mobile network for data connectivity.
How do I get the phone to automatically switch to using my mobile network for data when I'm not in my hotspot and then to automatically switch back to it when I am in the hotspot? It's driving me mental at the moment, and there doesn't appear to be anything obvious in the phone or any documentation!

So first thing i change size of sdcard, decreasing the partition size, and add a second partition with 3 Gbytes using ext2. To do this

The Motorola site offers a free download of something called "Motorola Media Link" which it claims will enable you to easily move and sync music, photos, and video between your computer and your Android phone -- it claims to work with iTunes and with Windows Media Player. Have any Phandroids downloaded and installed this? And if so, how is it working? I am getting a Motorola Droid on Friday and wonder if this download (assuming it works with Android 2.0) is a must-have for me. I used the option in batching Titanium Backup to move apps and data to my sdcard to save some space. I've decided I want to move it back so that it's available when I press the Launcher. I know where it's stored on the sdcard and I have root explorer, but I'm just not sure which folder to move it back to in the first place. which folder houses all the apps that are currently available via the Launcher?
