HTC EVO 4G :: How Is The Hummingbird So Much Faster Than Snapdragon
Aug 15, 2010
I have been reading reviews of the Sprint Epic 4G with it's Hummingbird CPU and it is showing that CPU to be about 3 times as fast as the EVO Snapdragon even though both run at 1 Ghz. How is this possible? I thought 1 Ghz was 1Ghz?
Although I love my EVO, if I had known the Epic was coming to Sprint with the full Qwerty and such amazing specs I would have waited. Ah well, EVO still rocks but I'll never get used to virtual keyboards with my fat thumbs.

Im new here and just wanted an opinion on some info i just received about these 2 processors. I was originally under the impression that the hummingbird processor is faster but have been informed that infact the ti omap is actually a faster processor but lacks the better gpu. also was informed that the memory the droid x uses is faster than the Samsung galaxy s phones. Is this info correct and is this why froyo 2.2 is not giving me any kind of performance boost. the droid x my family has seems to of benefited greatly from the 2.2 update and is making my fascinate look like a out dated piece of equipment.

Do you think we will get any games that will be tailored to take advantage of the Hummingbird processor? I'd love to see what can be done!

I don't see the point of having 4G on any current smartphone today. Even the Snapdragon 1ghz CPU is still the absolute main bottle neck on 3G when rendering webpages on the phone. 4G will not increase web browsing speeds on the phone.

I recently purchased the HTC HD2 and it's a great phone but I am not a windows mobile fan so i returned it and am back to using the Cliq. I was wondering if there will be a phone similar to it coming out with T-Mobile anytime soon but with Android instead. I know Verizon has the Incredible and that phone is incredible. I am wanting something similar to an HTC 1ghz snapdragon android phone for T-Mobile

It seems that the new processor in the rumored Motorola Droid shadow will completely wipe the floor with the Snapdragon 1ghz and I've read that a 1.5Ghz Snapdragon will make its way into devices later this year and the double core Snapdragons early next year. Just wondering really since in the end i'm goign t obe tied down by Sprint so i really don't have a choice haha.

I am currently using an HTC Sensation (with Snapdragon S3) and with h.264 videos, the limit for my phone is effectively at 1080p h.264 high profile level 5.1 with bit rate less than 10 Mbit/s. On my friend's One X, Tegra 3 can easily play 1080p videos up to 40 Mbit/s, which is very impressive. If the video playback capability of the Snapdragon S4 is on par with Tegra 3? Do you manage to get 40 Mbit/s videos to play on S4?

Purchased a cheap China clone while at Shenzhen. The shop owner claimed that this is a Note 3 clone from one company called HDC. All my programs run well without any problem. Speed is fast.
Problem is, I need root in order to run some of my software. I can go into stock recovery mode and that's all. Which type of root should I use?
Below are some images taken while using AnTuTu benchmark.

Replacing my current phone is three months away, February could not come soon enough. I will DEFINITELY be getting an android, no doubts about it. But what I'm wondering is if the following phone is being planned for the us.
Android 2.0 (or higher)
Hardware Keyboard (prefer a slider like droid, but I'm not picky)
Snapdragon Processor
Carrier doesn't matter
Yes, I'm aware that the droid meets almost all of those requirements, but I'm super picky. I appreciate anyone's help on this, I've been searching and having a fairly rough time locating one.

This looks to be one of the best android phones out there. Although I prefer physical keyboards, I'm willing to give it up if the published specs for this device are accurate If it is in fact running Android 2.0, and it uses T-Mobile's 3G bands, I'm all over this baby the day it comes out.I would prefer stock Android to make it easier to upgrade in the future but I am willing to give it up for the Snapdragon processor and 8MP camera.

Loved the app for the G1, since it was capped and setcpu got it to run at max speed. Ditto for Droid, since it was also capped and the OMAP had plenty of ceiling for more speed. The Snapdragon is already designed to dynamically scale from 245mhz to 1ghz, so what good are the settings, if Snap is already detecting resource needs and adjusting clock accordingly? This function is built into the die and seems no need for software augmentation.I appreciate insight, since some of the posts I have been seeing may suggest something that Snap already was designed to do and is built into the hardware.all of the needed polling that must happen through software for profile conditions may offset any gain as well. Seems inefficient managing via software, when the chipset already dynamically manages- unless Snap does a poor job in the first place.

I've just started creating some Android application and I successfully made application that locates user's latitude and longitude.
Well. The problem is that I am interested about the way how android does that with maps tools since my application starts a GPS and it takes like 10 minutes, before it finds a location indoors and maybe sometimes it doesn't even find a GPS indoors, but if I use Maps application that comes with phone it works fine indoors and outdoors it's same where I am.. the location I'm standing on is directly found without waiting any minutes. (I've changed a place and it's directly there without waiting)
Can it be done as easily as GPS locating?

The backup for titanium was flawless, however the restore is proving quite annoying. Do i really need to go through and approve each app to be installed? Or is there a hidden way I'm missing.

I've pretty much spent the entire weekend installing and uninstalling 2.2 on my droid. This afternoon I got it setup so that it was running SUPER smooth. Before 2.2 my Quadrant score was about 605 (running BB1.1 oc to 1ghz). With 2.2 I was getting about 1200 in quadrant (oc'ed at 1ghz as well).I then compared my phone with my brothers (his is setup exactly how mine was before 2.2) and while my phone was a bit snappier scrolling through home screens and opening the app drawer, when it came to opening programs - his droid opened the programs faster than mine did. What is that all about? Anyone have any thoughts? Both phones were freshly rebooted.

I use Eclipse for my development. The problem with it is, I find it incredibly memory hungry... it often takes ages to load up, when I save a file it hangs for a while (saying "Building workspace" in the bottom right hand corner), and is just generally slow.I wondered if anyone had any tips for streamlining it for Android. I don't use it for anything else (if necessary, I will install a separate instance for general Java stuff) so I can't help thinking there are lots of modules and stuff I could get rid of which may help it run more smoothly.

Buddy of mine rooted his EVO 4G and added tethering app. He showed me how I could connect my Samsung Captivate to his EVO via Wifi and surf using his cell (3G) connection. To my knowledge, he was connected using only 3G (no 4G signal there). However, page loads were MUCH faster on my phone when tethered to his phone than when I use my own AT&T 3G connection.

Wow, my droid with 2.0.1 is now so much faster!
So it makes me wonder, what the hell was the phone busy doing before this update? Sending data back to Google somehow? Because the speed increase I see isn't just a 10% increase, I mean it seems at least 25% faster...

My wife's phone has used almost 4GB of data this month and her battery has been draining much faster than mine, especially at night. Last night we watched in SystemPanel at the Net Receive indicator and it was constantly downloading at least 200+ kps. I had read about some issues with Facebook so we removed the Friendstream widget and saw the downloading go close to zero.
This morning, I checked the 8 hour monitoring in SystemPanel and saw that the CPU activity was still high overnight (running near 30%) and her battery drain was twice mine (over 13% used over ~7 hours, mine was around 5% drain).
I loaded up Spare Parts on her phone and was looked under Battery History, Network Usage and took this picture (sorry about the quality, her screen protector makes it hard to get a good picture and she is not rooted). Can anyone explain what UID 10006 is and why it is downloading so much data? I do not see it listed on my phone in Spare Parts. What do we need to do to turn this off or at least slow it down?

I got almost 6MB/s write speed with the stock SDHC card (4GB capacity) that came with the N1. I replaced the stock card with a 8GB class 6 card I had flying around. To my surprise, the class 6 card isn't faster! Write speed is still slightly below 6MB/s. The point is that I eventually want to upgrade to a 16GB. But if the class makes no noticeable difference on the N1, I might as well get a "slower" class 2 card.

I've had the phone for about 1.5 months now. I have about 70 or so apps. The phone is noticeably slow and lags a lot. Text messaging app crashes from time to time and I have to force close and loose all the texts. Should I upgrade the SD card? I've been reading about rooting the phone and about ROMs but I dont fully comprehend it.
