May 27, 2010I am using fring on htc 4g... It makes a fringe to fringe video call pretty ok. I cant figure out how to dial someones skype account to a PC.

Android :: Can Fring Really Do Real Voip Skype Calls?
Dec 18, 2009So I'm a little confused about Skype on Android. As I understand it, it's not really running Skype at all, it's just a fancy way to call their local Skype number, which you can actually do on any cell phone, right? So you still use minutes. If you make long-distance calls, you'll also use credits. If you make local-calls, I assume you don't? And do you use credit if you make Skype-to-Skype calls? What if someone Skypes you -- do you still use credit? Second, can Fring really do real voip Skype calls? Just using my wifi and no minutes? Can I see all my Skype contacts? Can they see me?

Aug 18, 2010I have nimbuzz on my milestone 2.1. I am trying to make VOIP calls on my skype account through nibuzz. When using wifi it works great. When using 3g I have a weird prob.
I can receive calls fine but I when I call someone I can't hear the person answering and he/she can't hear me. It won't work even with echo sound test. Does anyone have any idea why this would happen. I tried uninstalling and re installing and all that so.

Jun 13, 2010I keep trying to setup Skype in Fring, and it has a spinning circle above the SKP logo for about 5 minutes until it says that it cannot log into Skype. HTC EVO 4G :: Video Calling - Fring Over Skype - On 3G
Jun 4, 2010All I get is "call terminated" when I pick up and the connection is established. Tried initiating the video call from both ends (PC and EVO) with the same result. anyone?
have not tried on 4G yet since it;s dead at home (have it at the office and couple of streets down from my house - maybe I'll take a walk tonight?)
UPDATE:
-when initiating the call from the PC it rings on the phone and I only get "call terminated" when I pick it up on the EVO
- when initiating the call from the EVO it rings once and it hangs up (does not ring on the PC and I cannot answer it)
doing a restart of the EVO right now

alright, a power off and on of the EVO did it.

Aug 2, 2010I am getting a Galaxy S end of this week or early next week. Wondering how good it will be for VOIP. I am thinking of using either Skype, Fring or Nimbuzz in the background 24x7, connected mostly over 3G but sometimes (at home and at work) over Wi-Fi. If Wi-Fi is going to drain the battery faster, then I can have it on 3G all the time. I'm more than happy if I can get one day out of it. What do you guys think? Has anyone tried it?

Skype is the undisputed best free (for the most part) Voip software available, but when they released their latest Android application they removed 3G calling for everyone in the USA. Well that feature has been hacked and re-enabled by one of our members by the name of xeudoxus, who I have been talking to and he says this was quite simple and took him a matter of 15 minutes to do it. To install this, simply download the apk that's in the thread, copy and paste it in your memory card and install it using a fill manager application. When it is done installing go to the application and call us to tell us how awesome it runs. I am sure everyone is happy to see this feature added to their service, and I for one am going to post this then download it and call forum administrator Dan. So for instance - if I wanted to, I could wake up my mac remotely using my phone, and start having a conversation with anyone who happened to be near my computer as if I had called a phone number. I could activate video streaming from my phone to my computer or from my computer to my phone if I wanted to, all controlled by my phone to my computer or vice versa
So it's sort of like skype, but only between my phone and the computer, and I can activate it even when my laptop is closed using ssh wake on demand or whatever.

Feb 29, 2012I'm looking for a cheap-ish, reasonable spec., probably secondhand Android phone for my daughter which must be capable of video (pref. 2 way) Skype-type calls via wifi.
It won't be having any kind of SIM (PAYG or contract) in it initially, but must function as Skype-type video phone via wifi - unless someone tells me that's not possible! I can put my own O2 SIM in it if necessary to set up whatever needs doing to make it function.
Is it possible to set up a phone in this way? (ie. to be able to make & receive Skype-type video calls without having a SIM card in it).
If it is - how exactly do I do it? Should I use Skype as a carrier or are there other providers who would do the job better/easier? Which Android phones will best do the job?

Nov 10, 2010I just got the Samsung Galaxy S Captivate. Seems like a nice phone. Every phone I've had in the past (Nokia, Sony, etc...) has always allowed me to hide my number so that the call display on the receiver's phone shows my call as 'private'. This is useful for when you don't want certain people to have your number when you call. Is there a way to do this on the Galaxy S? I couldn't seem to find any setting how.

I can make a call, but then if I try to make another, the phone will just go black. The other person says they can hear me, but I hear nothing.
