View 1 Replies View RelatedThis has been an issue that's been bugging me the last few days now. The stock wall charger that came with my Droid X is the 5PN5504A, which has an output rating of 5.1V, 850mA. My understanding is that the mini-USB interface is an industry standard for power delivery to portable devices, which I take to mean that any charge source should work (wall charger, desktop PC, laptop) as long it has uses an USB interface. So any USB-->miniUSB cable can be used to charge any mini-usb device, regardless of power source, right?
I already have several other mini-usb devices, such as bluetooth headsets, which all came with their own wall chargers. However, I checked these chargers, and they all have different outputs: 5V @ 200mA, 5V @ 150mA, 5V @ 550mA. Because the default Droid X cable was so short, I was tempted to use these other chargers. I plugged in the 5V@150mA charger to my Droid X, and found that the phone does not show it's charging (the lighting bolt isn't there, there's no animation on the battery indicator). So then I switched to the 5V@550mA charger, and it DOES charge....................
it works perfectly fine with main charge and usb charge and now it won't charge whatsoever no matter how i try. i did the factory reset on my x10. still it wont charge. btw when i turn off my x10 first, then connects it to the power. it would turn on my phone like others but just wont charge.

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen the EVO comes out, do you think it will be sold out immediately? Or would everybody pretty much have a chance to get it if they want it?I have never had a smart phone. I got my first cellphone sophomore year in HS.6 Years later, my current phone is Blackberry 8703E. Needless to say, I am excited to get out of my parent's plan, get a data plan, and hook up with the EVO
View 30 Replies View RelatedJust got the EVO last Friday. It replaces a Samsung Moment that died a horrible death.
When I charge it with the cable that came with it, it charges fine. But if I charge it with the Moments cable, it doesn't charge. The battery icon is animated as if it's charging and Spare Parts reports that it's charging, but the battery level continues to fall as if it's not plugged in.
I turn the 4g on and it immediately shuts off when it says scanning. It only rarely actually works and this has only been happening the past month or so. I just rooted it with unrevoked3 last week though. the problem has been before that. I do now have wireless tether installed but I don't have it active when I try to update. I've tried it with Wireless tether On and Off, with Mobile Connection On and Off, with Sprint Hotspot On and Off, nothing makes a difference. I've rebooted numerous times. The past few days I've been using Advanced Task Killer to kill apps every 30 minutes in aggressive which gives me crazy good battery life even with syncing and fairly bright light and normal usage. Like three days with only two spots of 30 minute charging. It also charges much faster though.
I don't know why it works sometimes. I can't find anything linking the working moments. I'm in a fairly good 4G area when it works, I get around 1.3 megabytes coming down at the peak. Is there anything I can do? Is anyone else experiencing this? I would think that if it actually scanned, it would take longer than an eighth of a second to do so.
I'm using Xperia S with custom rom and this is not only the case with MIUI but all other custom roms that my camera app closes immediately. Other apps from market are working just fine and the camera works normally. I tried clearing data etc but it didn't work.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm pretty sure that android services are going to be the end of me.I have almost no hair left after the last few days.At first I was having a heck of a time getting the service to bind on an onclick of a button, got that straightened out from help here yesterday. Now I actually want the service to bind in the onCreate() method of the activity. That part is no problem, works as intended.My service is actually a socket service to connect TCP sockets to a socket server that I wrote.If I put the call to the method from the bound service mBoundService.StartSocketServer() inside a button click, bingo, works great. But I need this to fire up immediately when the activity loads, so directly under my bindService() call within my onCreate() method of the activity.When I place the call to start the socket inside my onCreate() I get a force-close.
This method (StartSocketServer()) spawns a new thread then opens the socket on that thread to my remote machine.I'm guessing that the problem lies with the new thread generation before the activity fully loads not sure.LogCat is fairly cryptic here. It does say something about thread attach failed, then shows an uncaught handler exception that has "Caused by: java.lang.NullPointerException" within it.Again, if I put this call to the method inside a button click, I"m in business, if it's in the onCreate() it fails. Is there some way inside an activity (presuming that my assumption is correct that it needs to fully load before spawning a new thread) to call the StartSocketServer() after it's loaded: ala body.onLoad() in html?
I need to open a progress dialog on the onResume() method. But no dialog is opened. Any solutions for this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedThere is a big database(15M) in my application, it is too big to download the apk if I publish the source database in myapp.apk. So I encode the db to binary files(300k). But the new problem is I should decode binary files and create the database(with data), this procedure take about several minutes, so I can NOT do this in SQLiteOpenHelper.onCreate(), this is too slow for user experience(though it is a one time procedure, it is still unacceptable).
My application has NO main activity entry in launcher, the main entry is Broadcast Receiver.on Receive, the information should display to user immediately when receiving the broadcast, so I have no chance to display a several minutes "Initializing, please waiting..." UI. The best chance to create database and init data immediately after install, but how to do this, is there any broadcast? or is there any AndroidManifest attribute?
Replaced my Droid X with the RAZR M.
How do I create/edit a contact so that SMS/Text is not an option for a number. I want to hit that contact and have it immediately dial. Some contacts I imported from gmail are already like this but new contacts always have phone or text as the options so I have to select the phone icon to actually dial.
Problem came up because the default voicemail app keeps trying to sell me Visual voice mail. The default Voicemail contact number is not editable so I can't add my pin. Finally deleted the default contact and added my own. So far so good except it always wants to know if I want to send a text?
I have just made a small testing app, soon to be a notes app, and I am experimenting with a listview control. However, it does not work and I get an 'Unfortunately, Notes has stopped' message when I open it on my Sony Xperia tipo. Here is the code for it: MainActivity.java
Code:
package com.tapinteractive.holonotes;
import com.tapinteractive.holonotes.R;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.app.Activity;

This morning my camera and video camera would open and then immediately close down. I shut the phone down and rebooted. Camera still did not open. Next, I shutdown the phone and removed the battery. After a few moments, I reinstalled the battery and rebooted. The camera still would not open. I had to do other work, so I just set the phone aside for a few hours. When I came back, I tried the camera again and after a short pause it opened, but not as smoothly as in the past. It is still not opening as it should. First it displays a very quick view of the desktop with an error message. It goes too fast for me to read and then it opens the camera app.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis morning, we updated our app on AM; this was our first update since release of Android 1.1.
In testing, on the emulator and with the signed .apk installed on our handsets, everything appeared to be working fine; however, we uploaded to AM, selected the new CopyProtection option, and published. Wertago disappeared for about 30 minutes, and as soon as it reappeared, we downloaded, installed, and started. Immediately upon starting, we got a force close and were never able to get the app started at all.
We've seen some discussions about similar app behavior experienced by other developers, and there was mention of likely bugs in AM or in the Copy Protection scheme. Has this been confirmed by Google, is there any communication from them about a coming fix, or anything like that?
Here's a little detail about what we gather from the logcat output. Our app appears to fail upon attempting to open/create the database; the relevant line is:
tmpDatabase = instance.openOrCreateDatabase(SEARCH_DATABASE_NAME, Context.MODE_PRIVATE, null);
which throws the sqlite3_open_v2 error.
All my calls are going directly to voice mail. The phone does not ring. I have disabled call forwarding by calling *73, but it still does it. I called Verizon, but they are no help. I am rooted.

Model: Samsung Galaxy S Duos (GT-S7562)
ROM: PMP Ultra 8.5.1
Issue:Recently, I switched my s duos from official Stock OS/ROM to PMP Ultra 8.5.1 for better features an usability. As I could see that after installing some apps(~8-10 in count), apps such as Gmail(while opening particular email), Link2SD, Gallery gets shutdown as soon as try to open them.
This issue happens after some time rebboting cell, and persist until next reboot, I could see that I have enough space and RAM available to manage yet more apps.
I have an issue with my i9001:
I installed CM9 (2 RCs) for a while but it was still buggy for me. Then I decided to go back to GB. Since I went back the wifi switches off immediately after switching it on. I switch it on. It starts scanning and it switches off again. The device does not connect to a wifi AP.
Currently it is running GIGABREAD+, but it did exactly the same with the original stock ROM which I saved on the SD card and installed again.
If I do a WiFi driver test (*#*#526#*#*) it states that the wireless driver loaded successful.
Anyone notice this? My EVO shoots up incredibly when plugged into a wall versus my computer. There was a difference too on my Hero but it wasn't so dramatically different that I would prefer wall to computer. The EVO seems to inch up plugged into the PC, but the wall seems to give it an injection of red bull cocaine.
View 19 Replies View RelatedI have found that charging my HTC Hero from the wall with the USB adapter charges faster than charging from the USB plugged into the pc. This may sound like common sense, but there's more to it... Some iPhone users have noticed that the charge from their phone when charged from the mains lasts longer than the charge from the PC via USB. Some sites claim that phone batteries can be 'overcharged' by charging from the mains, and that USB charging doesn't do this. I havn't had my phone long enough to test the 'overcharging' theory, but I was wondering if anyone had any information about these different methods of charging.
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy phone dropped from my pocket into the toilet. It was in there for no longer than 5 seconds. I took out the battery and tried to dry everything off. In a panic I turned it back on to see if it would work. I wasn't thinking at all. It started to turn on, then the screen flickered and everything went black. I dried it out properly and it still won't turn on. I've plugged it into the charger, nothing. Is my phone now useless? My mom says will not buy me another phone until the contract is up, in over a year. Is there anything I can do? Or did I completely screw myself?
If my phone is gone, can I still save my contacts and/or pictures?
I have an activity A which uses SharedPreferences to share data with a service S, which is called from within A.Now when I call the stopService() method from A, the onDestroy() method in S is not called immediately.I thought that all the activities and services under a single apk run in just one process. Why then does the jump to onDestroy() not take place immediately instead I can see the output from onDestroy() after the further code in the activity A is executed.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy girlfriend just received her Droid 2 the other day and I have been helping her set it up. There was an available update so I had it installed. Now every time we try to use a browser, any browser, it opens for a second and then it closes to the Home screen right away. No force close, no error message, just poof and it's gone. I didn't install many apps to it like my Captivate because I figured less is more for her. She added her facebook and MySpace accounts but that's about it really.
I looked all over the past few hours and found similar issues but none quite the same. I cleared the cache, cleared the data, nothing. 3G or WiFi made no difference. I tried with the stock browser, Skyfire, Dolphin, and xScope and same results across the board. I turned all location settings off and back on and back off again to no avail. I just did a factory reset 15 minutes ago and nothing has changed. I am going to do it again without allowing the Backup Assistant to do anything. I'll make a fresh google account to see if there's a difference there but I don't think it will work. It's not rooted or anything, it's pretty much fresh out of the box from only 3 days ago.
I have a strange problem with my Xperia X10....the call is getting disconnected immediately as soon as I dial the number
Also checked if its is an issue with the sim card but its giving problems to other sim cards also.
check all the call settings but of no use.
So when I am on the call screen, and want to hang up or pull the key pad to enter some numbers, sometimes it takes about 3 seconds for the screen to become responsive and those buttons to become press-able. I say 'sometimes' because many a times it just works outright and I can lower the phone from my face and tap the end call button and it works. But other times it can create situations where I want to hang up the phone immediately but cant. Does it happen with anyone else?? One reason for this could be bad proximity sensor, but if screen can light up on taking the phone away from ear, it means proximity sensor is working fine. Any solutions?
View 13 Replies View RelatedI am using a DefaultHttpClient and a ThreadSafeClientConnManager to share the httpClient across threads. That part is working well. However, when I execute an HttpPost in one thread, and call httpPost.abort() from another. It does not return immediately and continues blocking until the socket timeout is reached in most cases. Am I missing something else? I've tried using: connectionManager.closeIdleConnections(30, TimeUnit.SECONDS); connectionManager.closeExpiredConnections();
