Just got the EVO last Friday. It replaces a Samsung Moment that died a horrible death.
When I charge it with the cable that came with it, it charges fine. But if I charge it with the Moments cable, it doesn't charge. The battery icon is animated as if it's charging and Spare Parts reports that it's charging, but the battery level continues to fall as if it's not plugged in.

When I charge with a non HTC USB cable the phone wont charge. I've had it on for the last 16 hours and although the light goes orange and the little battery animates as though it's charging it hasn't budged since I put it on... I haven't tried it with the official cable yet but does anyone know of any reason why a non-HTC USB cable wouldn't do the same as a HTC branded one?

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I charge the Droid via the USB cable it seems to me that the plug that goes into the Droid appears to not want to come out. Like it should be a button or something that would release the plug from the Droid itself.
So my question is, is there a button or something that I am suppose to be pressing to release the plug from the droid or is just that hard to remove?
Is there a hidden setting somewhere where I can tell the phone not to charge when I plug in the USB data cable? So, please charge when I plug in the power adapter, but please don't charge when I plug in the USB data cable. The reason I'm asking is because with all of experimenting I'm doing, trying to get my USB PC to phone connection working, my battery is being overcharged. Yes overcharged to the extent that the phone has even popped up a message once or twice telling me to disconnect, that the battery is fully charged.

But all I get is an option to mount the SD card as a drive to copy files. It doesn't seem to be able to charge the phone. Do I need a special cable, or maybe a second charger from T-Mobile? I had always charged my old MP3 player with USB, so I figured the phone could do the same thing.

I think one or two gills, pressing from above onto the USB-Port, constructed into the case, would be enough to solve the problem. So the leverage-forces wouldn´t take effekt to the solder-spots of the USB-Port, but to the (new constructed) gills and the case of the X10.

The stock wall charger that came with my Droid X is the 5PN5504A, which has an output rating of 5.1V, 850mA. My understanding is that the mini-USB interface is an industry standard for power delivery to portable devices, which I take to mean that any charge source should work (wall charger, desktop PC, laptop) as long it has uses an USB interface. So any USB-->miniUSB cable can be used to charge any mini-usb device, regardless of power source, right?
I already have several other mini-usb devices, such as bluetooth headsets, which all came with their own wall chargers. However, I checked these chargers, and they all have different outputs: 5V @ 200mA, 5V @ 150mA, 5V @ 550mA. Because the default Droid X cable was so short, I was tempted to use these other chargers. I plugged in the 5V@150mA charger to my Droid X, and found that the phone does not show it's charging (the lighting bolt isn't there, there's no animation on the battery indicator). So then I switched to the 5V@550mA charger, and it DOES charge....................
since I upgraded to android 2.1 ... when I connect the cable to charge the battery of my phone .. the phone software goes crazy .. it loops all the time .. does anybody have the same problem???

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo today my USB breaks so the phone doesn't charge without putting some torque on the cable (I'm sure the USB jack has pulled off the motherboard). Should I live with the hassle until 2.2 is rooted, or return the phone for a replacement and risk that they will force an update to stock 2.2? I'm assuming I'd have to return to stock before taking phone in for service, too (and just after I finished getting everything setup after updating to rooted Froyo).

I'm on to my second Dinc and it happens to that one as well: Once the battery gets in the "red" (i think 10% or 15%) it doesn't start charging at all unless it's been plugged in for 20 - 30 minutes. Regularly if you charge your battery (from the non-red level) you see the little lightning bolt appear and then you see the progress bar go higher and higher and reset and go higher, higher, etc. When the phone is in red status, you just see the lightening bolt and no progress is made. I tested this by leaving it plugged in for 10 - 15 minutes and unplugged it and it did not move up 1 percentage point. After 20 - 30 minutes suddenly you see the progress bar move. This really sucks because once your phone is in red, it takes a while before it starts charging. I brought my phone to Verizon, had it swapped out and my "new" (refurbed) phone does the same thing. Searched the forums and checked out google and found tons of battery issues, but nothing like this. Anyone else experiencing this?

but I didn't know that they were charging me as text messages (it was always free when done on the computer xD). well, I can go to the mobile.yahoo.com website and IM for free from there, but that's kinda a hassle. are there any android apps that that allow me to IM but don't register it as a text message?
Anyone notice this? My EVO shoots up incredibly when plugged into a wall versus my computer. There was a difference too on my Hero but it wasn't so dramatically different that I would prefer wall to computer. The EVO seems to inch up plugged into the PC, but the wall seems to give it an injection of red bull cocaine.

This may sound like common sense, but there's more to it... Some iPhone users have noticed that the charge from their phone when charged from the mains lasts longer than the charge from the PC via USB. Some sites claim that phone batteries can be 'overcharged' by charging from the mains, and that USB charging doesn't do this. I havn't had my phone long enough to test the 'overcharging' theory, but I was wondering if anyone had any information about these different methods of charging.

Yesterday I plugged it into my notebook and work desktop and it was at 50%. Left it there for a while, came back and was still at 50%. Tried it while mounted and not mounted. View 13 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to charge my Evo via USB to no avail lately. Whenever I plug in my Evo, I select Charge Only (or if I do nothing, it selects Charge Only automatically. My Evo then continues to charge for about 15 seconds before my screen lights up and it stops. I checked to make sure my computer wasn't automatically mounting the USB drive or anything like that. If I turn off my Evo it charges from the USB fine. If I charge it from the wall it charges fine. I have tried different USB ports and my USB hub. I've tried resetting the Evo and my PC several times but nothing does the trick. This wasn't an issue last night and the only thing that has changed is that I installed the new HTC update. Edit: If I select "use as disk drive" the phone charges fine. It seems that the "Just Charge" option is broken.

My dad, an electrical engineer, recommended that I plug it in and let it charge fully before first turning the phone on. He also says I should let it drain completely after the first charge, to calibrate the phone's power system. What do you guys do when you first get a phone? Do you let the battery calibrate? Or does the awesome new phone seduce you into turning it on before it's ready?

I had a full battery this morning, but I am going to have to charge on my way home or I most likely won't make it until bedtime to charge. I am worried about overcharging i guess, if that's possible. I just don't want to be on a dead phone at 6 or 7 at night.
