View 1 RepliesI was wondering if any1 could help me understand sleep mode and how when it activates, as I'm not 100% convinced when my phone screen is off its in sleep mode.As far as the battery Sticy is concerned, I've been using handcent SMS for well over a month now, as well as disabled notifications in the original SMS program. Although the original program starts in the background when I get an SMS, which I noticed today when sending a test message to myself to make sure that handcent was defualt. It doesn't display a window or any other info.I don't use bluetooth, so I leave that off, as well as GPS unless I"m using google maps or something. Wifi is also a situational thing as well. I leave the Google Sync and mobile data on almost all the time, as I luv these features of the phone. I set disabled the auto backlight and set it to a Low comfortable level. After playing with this, I noticed that the phone made to audible notification noises about 10-20 seconds after the phone shut off, but not always. Is this the phone entering sleep mode? Or is this an app, if it is I get nothing on any screen say it was when I immediately turn screen back on.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI downloaded Locale recently and it looks like a good app. I have set it to turn on my Wifi shortly before I get up in the morning to allow it to download some files (Guardian App and hopefully some podcasts). I've set Guardian to only download the newspaper via Wifi. For some reason Locale doesn't seem to be able to switch the Wifi on unless I awake the phone from sleep. I've been into the Wifi sleep policy Setting menu on the Hero and set it to never. Any ideas why it's not working?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI apologize if these topics were already covered in previous threads.I wasn't able to find anything related in my searches. Auto-rotation for keyboard when answering a text message received in sleep mode does not work. If I actively send a text when phone is already awake, keyboard rotates with no problem but when I go to reply to a text that I received while phone is in sleep mode, the keyboard does not rotate. Is this the norm?I am also experiencing a delay when the I wake the phone. After unlocking the phone, I used to go straight to my home page, now I get a "loading" message which takes several seconds. Is this due to the number of apps I have loaded? Is it possibly due to number of photo frames I have on my home screen or the complexity of the wallpaper?

I've tried using setFlashlightEnabled, which I'm told works on the Droid. On my Nexus One with Froyo I used setFlashMode to set the mode to FLASH_MODE_TORCH, which works fine. But I can't figure out how to get the same effect on the HTC EVO 4G.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am developing an application that use the GPS and the geolocalion. So, during the application launch, I have to be sure that the user has activated the network and GPS. If he didn't tested 2 solutions : Ask the user to activate them himself (so the application quit, and the user has to reload it) Redirect the user in the corresponding view in order to activate them ( via something like "android.provider.Settings.ACTION_LOCATION_SOURCE_SETTINGS " )
The second solution is better to my mind but can be very boring for the user if he has to activate the Network + the GPS + Nework localisation That's why I ask if it is not possible to activate all that automatically if it is not possible ? I think it is possible because it exists widget that let the user activate network, gps etc... but how can we do that in the application?
But: how do you activate a ProgressBar according to the cell you just cliked on ? I have a list view, with a menu that shows after a long press. View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to understand the use of the broadcast receiver and the way of activate it. There's two ways isn't it? Register it from an activity or declare it in the manifest. So my question is: If I code a broadcast receiver which is watching incoming messages and I register it in the manifest, when a message comes my broadcast receiver will catch it automatically although any activity of my app had registered it. In a nutshells, I don't have to activate it so it works, only register it either in the manifest or in an activity.

I have several subscribe-to podcast feeds in Google Reader. When hit 'refresh' in Listen, no feeds or podcasts ever appear. Is there a setting I need to change? I realize this is part of 'Labs', but seeing there are many who use this app, it must be something I'm overlooking.

As you may have heard Android Device Manager has rolled out to 2.2 and above. To activate it, go to settings and then tap Device Administrators. There should be an option to activate Android Device Manager.
To track it and wipe the data follow the directions: Go to [URL]... log in and then click the settings gear under your account info. There should be an option for Android Device Manager.

View 25 Replies View RelatedI'm new to the Android based phones but it looks like I will be getting a EVO and possibly a Hero or Moment. My main question is if I should do anything to the phone (like rooting it) before I activate it? Like is there something that works better or makes it better if done before it's activated? Or should I just activate it right away and then mess with it? About the only reason I would be interested in rooting it is to have tethering (Wireless if possible).
