HTC EVO 4G :: Browser Slower On Custom Kernels
Aug 23, 2010
Was pondering if anyone else notice, the stock browser being a tad bit slower (about 7 seconds) with a custom kernel, compared to stock.
Yes i have tried multiple kernels with the same results, i wonder why this is the case, i love the features (unlocked fps/Over-under clocking) of some of the custom kernels , but losing 7-8 seconds is rather annoying especially on 3G. Running Froyo btw.

It seems like the stock browser scrolling is sluggish and less responsive after installing Froyo. Anyone else experiencing this?

I have a couple questions i was wondering could get answered by people with knowledge on the subject. I am pretty new to all this root and flashing scene with these android phones.
so here goes.
About a month [or so] ago i rooted my phone from stock 2.2 i had to downgrade to 2.1 -> root -> back to 2.2. since then i have been enjoying the pleasure of running apps like wifi tether adfree and so on. well i recently found out that because my phone was rooted ( i am still running stock ROM) that i cant update the pri and the kernal ( again i don't really know what this stuff really is, i just know it can help performance and battery wise). so
1. i was wondering if i can flash custom kernels onto the stock ROM.
2. are there any things i can flash onto my rooted stock ROM to help with battery life or anything else?
I currently have
pri version 1.40_003
baseband 2.15.00.07.28
kernel 2.6.32.15-g746f4f0 htc-kernal@and18-2 #58
build number 3.26.651.6

I'm finding that the standard browser is way slower when navigating than the Opera Mini beta.Same thing over wifi and mobile. We're talking about 30 seconds in standard browser compared to about 1 second in Opera. What's that about? Is everybody else finding the same thing? It's annoying that Opera isn't quite as complete as standard browser, coz otherwise I'd just use it all the time.

I have read and searched everywhere on how to install custom kernels.I follow each step: download the file, change the name of the file to update.zip, copy file onto root of SD card, boot into recovery, go to install, select "Allow update.zip Installation", install. When it starts to install it pops up "no such file or directory" installation aborted.

One using a Surfaceview, and the other using a custom view. According to the android SDK development guide, using a surface view is better because you can spawn a separate thread to handle graphics. Th SDK development guide claims that using a custom view with invalidate calls is only good for slower animations, less intense graphics. However, in my simple app, I can clearly see that using a custom view with calls to invalidate seems to render faster. What do you guys know/think about this?My touchEvent code is exactly the same, and my drawing code is exactly the same. The only difference is that one is all in the UI thread, and the other is using a tread to handle the drawing.

I am developing an app in which I am making a browser type app. Now as user try to open an URL in default browser, an intent resolver is come and ask user complete action using default browser or custom browser. This part of my app is completed. Now I want to ask if I choose to open the link in my custom browser how could I access that URL link. Means as I choose my browser I got blank web view, I am unable to get that URL Link, which I have to open in my web view.

I want to specifically run the default Android browser for a given URL. I'm using this code: I also tried adding <uses-library android:name="com.google.android.browser" /> to the manifest. Am I missing something here? PS: I'm not interested in using startActivity(new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW, Uri.parse("http://www.google.com"))) as it will list all the choices for the browsing Intent.

I'm currently testing weather I want to drop my aircard for the EVO, but I'm noticing the speeds and ping times are lower on the EVO.Same network, same time, same location , same speed test (speedtest.net), different devices. Is there some throttling going on? I've cracked 1mb only twice on the evo while the aircard has done it nearly every time i've checked in the last two years.pingtimes are horrible in the 300's while my aircard is at 117 or so usually. This is a killer for my ps3 gaming. Or could this just be the fact on the evo app we can't pic the servers and maybe its using a bad one or its far away.Hopefully this issue will be resolved before my 30 days are up. More money for slower speeds? I like new stuff but carrying around a phone isn't worth losing netflix and ps3 gaming.

I'm looking to try out a few different kernels for my new Myn's warm ROM. Right now I'm using netachy-toastmod 4.1.9.1 CFS.Seems to work just fine, but I wonder if it could be better with say kings kernel. These and baked kernels seem to be the consensus for Warm.My question is what's the deal with CFS and BFS. What's the difference? I've searched and I'm having a hard time coming up with answers. I'm just wondering what I should be using.

Just thought I would throw this out.I have been using the N1 on AT&T and p/u the Droid x on launch. Using Speedtest.net, the N1 has been giving me above 1.5 Mbps down and .8 up. OTOH, the Droid x has been .6/.3 over a span of three days.

I'm test driving Shadow rom right now.Is it weird? I'm getting lower Quadrant scores when I am using Set CPU with the settings on 998Mhz on the Performance governor.I'm using the Koush kernel that came with the rom. With Set CPU uninstalled, I consistently get higher Quadrant scores.Am I using the wrong settings in Set CPU?Kernel is capable of 1115Mhz, but is set at 998Mhz.Mods please move if I posted in the wrong place.

i have been running CyanogenMod6 test8 for awhile now, and I really like it. only problem I've seen so far is the camcorder which they've already mentioned so I knew that going into it. I have also been using a hydra kernel from their website hydrakernel.net and just now realized that the camera does not work with this kernel. so, my question is, are they any kernels besides the stock one that comes with the CM6 ROM? also, does the stock kernel with CM6 have wireless N capabilities? also, my settings > wireless & networks > tethering and portable hotspots > wireless hotspot does not work. is this a CM6 thing or is it a hydra kernel thing? I restored my phone to CM6 with the stock CM6 kernel and the portable hostpot works just fine. so that answers that part of my question.

Any kernel for the evo 3d compatible with ICS (sense 3.6 or 4.0 doesn't matter) that allows for charging while phone is on? Tried downloading chad goodman's kernel but kept receiving a 404 error so that's a no-go... wondering if there are alternative kernels out there others are using?

About a week ago I rooted my phone. Mind you, I didn't have HUGE lag issues like most before I rooted. Just the minor complaints that most had.I'm currently running Plain Jane v2 with a2sd and OC. I'm clocking at 710/528, yet my phone is laggier than ever. I'm at my wits end trying to get this phone to work at a substantial speed before I go off to college. At some points my phone seems really super-snappy, but those moments are short lived.Linpack averages that my MFLOPS is about 0.96 at all times. I read that the standard for the eris is 3.0, and I'm unsure why my phone is running this slow.Does someone know some tricks, or a rom that may help my phone out? I'm dying to just have something to make my phone usable. Thanks a ton.

I have a rooted dinc with a Innocell 3500mAh Extended Life Battery.Other than the battery and being rooted (removed some stock apps and added wireless tether),its still stock (ie. ROM, Kernel, etc.).I don't talk, text, or browse the web much, but I do stream Pandora ALL DAY at work.Usually about 7-8 hours non stop Ever since I rooted, it seems like it runs a little slower (ie. scrolling through home screens, exiting apps, sometimes it hangs or lags, etc. The snapdragon processor just isn't "snappy" (pun intended) as it formerly was.I was thinking about doing a Factory data reset ? or do I need to unroot, then reroot again?

Has anyone else been experiencing this issue? The rest of my applications have been running great.I love the new additions of 2.2 but was surprised to see a slowdown in Handcent.I understand that some people have been experiencing typing lag,I have as well but even while opening the application and choosing between contacts I have noticed a great deal of lag.Enough to make me go back to the stock messanger(which could have used some customization options with froyo IMO).

Not sure what is going on. I have a Linksys WRT-160N router. Before the OTA 2.2 update I would get speeds on WiFi between 15-18 mbps (speedtest.net). Now Im getting less then 3G speeds, like 1.3 and under.
Ive tried to tweak settings in the router and no change. I even did a factory reset on the router and still same thing.
Finally I went to my moms house and tried her WiFi and got what I used to get 15+mbps.

Had probs with HTC Sense so did a factory reset n SD card format but ever since the reset the Sense works fine but i have noticed Sense is working slower and widgets appear to reload every time i go to a particular homescreen.....this didnt not happen before
Also whenever i power it up, some app icons on homescreens show as the default android icon and not the app icon, after a few seconds and changing homescreens then the app icons appear as it should, i didnt see this before the reset?
Should i ignore this as its not to big a deal or do something about it?
Last question,
THE LED on my desire only shows orange for notification and green for charging, is this normal cause i have heard that it should show green and some other colours too......
BTW i have Desire 2.2 froyo

I love live wallpaper, but the phone seems to run extremely faster without it. I am sure everyone knows this already but I wanted to share this with everybody. I still use live wallpaper but you can definitely tell the difference in speed.
