HTC Desire :: Slower After Factory Reset
Oct 11, 2010
Had probs with HTC Sense so did a factory reset n SD card format but ever since the reset the Sense works fine but i have noticed Sense is working slower and widgets appear to reload every time i go to a particular homescreen.....this didnt not happen before
Also whenever i power it up, some app icons on homescreens show as the default android icon and not the app icon, after a few seconds and changing homescreens then the app icons appear as it should, i didnt see this before the reset?
Should i ignore this as its not to big a deal or do something about it?
Last question,
THE LED on my desire only shows orange for notification and green for charging, is this normal cause i have heard that it should show green and some other colours too......
BTW i have Desire 2.2 froyo

I've been using swype on 1.5 and then again on 2.1 OTA. I've always updated to the newest version and I recently did a factory data reset on my eris because I couldn't get messaging threads to delete. After factory reset, I downloaded swype from beta.swype.com on the eris and installed the latest version. For some reason when I use swype the blue guide line is a lot slower than it used to be to catch up to where i swipe my finger. It also has trouble when I circle on a letter to indicate that I want to use that letter twice in a word. That never works now. I tried going into the keyboard calibration settings and resetting the calibration to factory settings. I looked in the swype settings as well. I haven't made any changes them so I'm wonder why the line tracing and understanding what I'm swiping is not even close to as responsive as before.

Just ran reset on my phone twice...it rebooted and nothing was removed! Never seen this before anyone have any thoughts? I'm on CM 5.0.7.1, and haven't seen this behavior before on that or any other ROM. Gonna boot into recovery and do it manually.

How you factory reset the DHD. Have been having a few probs with the phone, that cannot seem to sort and neither could Orange, so am thinking of just resetting back and starting again.
The prob for information, if anyone can sort this. Is that I have one contact on my phone, that when I send a message to them, sometimes I get a text response back from the Orange 177 service, saying that they could not understand my request. Have spoken to Orange, and they say they have removed the 177 service, but, am still getting the message. When I do get the 177 message back, the actual recipient does not receive the message and I have to resend again
This particular contact on their FB account did have their number starting 1775..... rather than either 44 or just the standard 0 ... so I think it is getting confused, however, that number has been removed from FB, I deleted all traces of this contact and even deleted the FB account from my friends list ... then added them all back in to FB and into the phone .... although, am still getting this 177 response ... but it is not always, and on my bill there is no sign of the number being texted.

Looking to sell my Desire and obviously I want to completely factory reset it. Will that literally factory reset it? I only ask because I know with previous phones it often only means a soft reset and some details remain.

I've spent the day customising my phone with widgets and wallpapers and lock screen etc, but now I can't connect to the mobile internet. Nothing comes up in the taskbar but wifi still works. If I have to do a factory reset will my paid for downloads in the market still be available for free?

I've had some odd problems since my Froyo update, calls going straight to voicemail and people not hearing me when I make or receive calls - all intermittent of course! I've decided I'm going to reset to factory and just back up texts and contacts, I'll just reinstall the apps afterwards - probably don't need half of them anyway.. Question is they are all installed on my SD card now, will factory reset get rid of them from the mem card? I want them all gone and to start again...I'd hate to think they were wasting space on my SD card....otherwise I'll have move them back before reset..

Been trying to do a factory reset on my Desire but with no success. On my screen it says its rebooting but has stayed like that for 15mins. Surely it shouldn't take that long? Anyone have any suggestions as to why this maybe happening?

When I tried to remove (settings->accounts & sync) the gmail account that was used during the initial phone setup, it prompted this message -> Remove account. This account is required by some applications. You can only delete it by resetting the phone to factory defaults. I would like to change it to another gmail account. Is such a drastic move (reset to factory default) necessary? Any workaround?

Just got HTC Desire on eBay. Seems new as advertised and certainly all cables charger etc. in original packaging. The manual; says that when I switch on for the first time quote 'the phone displays tutorials and guides you to set up your email accounts and favorite social networks such as Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter. You can follow the onscreen instructions to complete the setup, or skip the setup and do it at another time. This didn't happen when I switched on. Will it happen if I do a factory reset?

A little advice please. i have been messing around constantly with my desire since i had it, about 3 weeks. Installing apps, uninstalling apps, etc, etc. It has become a little laggy, certainly not as fast as when it first arrived. The main things that concern me are how to backup all of my contacts, including their pictures. As this has taken me some time to compile. I have backed up my contacts to the sd card, but i dont think this does the pictures as well.

I have an Orange UK branded HTC Desire HD running stock firmware & NOT rooted. Since the fairly recent 2.3.5 update with Sense 3.0 I have found that I am regularly seeing Sense restart upon exiting an app and returning to the home screen. This is not related to a particular app, as it can happen when returning to home from ANY app. My wife is seeing the same behaviour on hers too.
Having posted on both HTC's & Orange's Facebook pages, I have been advised in no uncertain terms that as a first step I should perform a factory reset.
This is something that I have not done since I got my DHD (my 1st Android - plenty of hard resets on WM ). I have had a bit of a tidy up - clearing unnecessary data, uninstalling apps I don't use, etc. Pretty much ready to reset (but aware that there is SOME data that I will lose). However, there is one thing that I am unsure about...
I have previously moved a number of apps to the SD card. If I leave them there, will the existing data be recognised upon reinstalling the apps? Or will it cause me problems? Or will the existing data just be orphaned? I.e. should I move all apps back to the phone before performing the reset?

Why a Froyo factory reset really isn't (plus, a fix for upgrade issues) | Android Central Its in reference to the X but I am going to factory reset tonight and see what happens."If you're one of those folks who is less than pleased with your Droid X after the Froyo update, this one's for you. Android Central Forums member Fabrian was at wit's end, and even talked of ditching his X (blasphemy!) because of the random bugs, general weirdness, and plain old unsatisfactory performance of his unit since the update. His last-ditch effort and ingenuity seems to have paid off. The secret? He has completely disabled the Froyo feature that restores data from previous installs. It's really just a matter of turning off the automatic restore feature before logging back into your Google account. It's a little odd that "Automatic Restore" is still checked by default, even when "Back up my data" isn't, but there you go.The method isn't too painful and does require one more factory reset, but the payoff appears to be a much smoother experience. Makes sense, too restoring data from Eclair to Froyo probably isn't a very good idea even if it is convenient.
We've verified it here, a hard reset in Froyo isn't really a hard reset, as things come back by themselves. Follow Fabrian's instructions, and you will have a pristine Froyo installation on your Droid X (or Nexus One -- Sense on Froyo has no setting for this that we could find). Any troublemaking leftovers will be no more, and won't get downloaded and installed automatically again. If you're being plagued with myriad tiny bugs in your Droid X after the update, give it a try! [Android Central Forums] Thanks Fabrian, nice sleuthing!"

Long time Droid user, brand new to the Fascinate Forum. I just bought my wife a Samsung Fascinate and I have to say the thing is absolutely phenomenal! It makes my Motorola Droid look like a 1990's flip phone!! Except for one problem the darned thing has been automatically spontaneously performing a factory reset / hard reset on itself. And it is happening at completely random times. You're sitting there playing a game, you're reading your e-mail or you just pushed the screen ON / power button to wake the phone up and unlock it and then, all of a sudden The phone reboots to the black and white Samsung startup screen, then recovery pops up and yellow writing appears that says "Formatting FOTA:", "Formatting DATA:", "Formatting CACHE:". Then the phone reboots again and comes up like you just pulled it out of the box; a full factory reset / hard reset. The contents of the SD card are thankfully fine.Is anyone else having this problem? Does anyone know if there is anything I can do to turn on some sort of logging so that maybe I can figure out what causes it? This is now the second phone that this is happening to. We took the first phone back to Verizon the very same day we got it and they swapped it out right there for another brand new one. The second phone behaved perfectly for three whole days before it went and wiped itself. We thought for sure that the problem was with the first phone, but now it is happening with the second phone.I am going to start from scratch again, adding one app at a time making sure the thing continues to work. But there weren't any apps on the device in the first place that were really out of the ordinary.- Gmail POP3 Yahoo- Corporate E-Mail to Microsoft Exchange Server (No, it wasn't the Exchange Admin sending a kill package, I'm the Exchange Admin)
- Angry Birds
- Robodefense
- Facebook
- Beautiful Widgets
- Cal Widget
- Google Maps
- Pandora
I have all of those apps and more on my Motorola Droid (also connected to the same Exchange Server) and my device is behaving just fine.I'm trying to think of reasons this might happen and I'm drawing a complete blank.

I am really starting to hate my EVO. It took a week for me to download a paid app, now I am not getting the new update, and I can't access the manage my apps setting. My brother bought his phone the same time I did, and he's not having any of these problems. I am wondering how do I reset it? maybe and hopefully I wont have as much problems with it.

I find that my battery progressively gets worse and worse until I'll ultimately doing a factor reset and it fixes it. It really doesn't make sense to me. I don't use very few applications. The thing is it's always a downward progression. This is the 4th time I've done a factory reset and I will get 16-24 hours no problem. But the last week I've been getting 6-8 hours. It does this everytime, just gets progressively worse until I reset it and it's fine again. It really does only take me about 15 minutes to completely factory reset my phone and getting it back to the exact working condition as before though so that's not bad. This is not a "oh I haven't charged my phone it 37 hours nananan" threads or any other battery life battle. Just want to see if anyone else has noticed this.

I got my Incredible last week and a few days later I got the OTA installation for Froyo. Since installing my phone has been a little sluggish and the battery life isn't as good as 2.1. I'm considering doing a factory reset since that's what has helped some people. A few questions though:
1) How do I do a factory reset?
2) Will doing a factory reset bring my phone back to 2.1 or 22?
3) How do I back up the apps I've downloaded? Specifically the PAID ones. Will I have to pay again for them?

I just got my evo and downloaded froyo pretty much right away. I want to do a factory reset, but that will cause me to lose everything, including my contacts, right? I tried syncing my contacts to my gmail account but they are not showing up when I log in to gmail on my computer. Is there something special I need to do when I log in to gmail to get my contacts? Or is it as simple as just clicking on contacts once you sync them from your Evo?

I'm have a some minor things that are not right and I'm wondering if a Factory Reset would help or be worth it.
1. keep syncing phone book over 3g (even if on wifi) sometimes 3 or 4 time in a 5 min span and even if background sync is off
2. random power downs
3. no market update (is this something I need to do manually?)
4. Sometimes 3g and wifi on at the same time.

I know there was a bulletin on not to do it if you had 2.1, but I was rooted using SS4.6. I had switched ROMs, between about three of them the past week, and didn't do a full wipe, just to be safe. But the phone was starting to get real slow, regardless of the ROM, so I just did a factory reset using Clockwork Recovery and now I don't seem to be getting 3G anymore. I can still get data, just at 1X. It'll say "3G" when idle, but once I'm browsing, it bumps down to 1X again. This couldn't possibly be what was suggested not to do for 2.1 owners, was it? Despite being on 2.2?

I've tried both ways. Settings, privacy, reset.Home plus power button while the phone is off.(Sd card is removed by the way)On the system recovery screen it says E:can't open /cache/recovery/commandI've tried using wipe cache partition then wipe and just wipe. It still goes back to my last settings. Even my wallpaper which is of a picture of my son is on there.
