HTC EVO 4G :: Battery - Rom - Kernal?
Sep 2, 2010
I just ordered the seidio battery for my phone (3500). the battery widget i downloaded is telling me 92% left on battery, and the little icon in the task bar is showing completely full.
Are the widgets pretty accurate with what they display as to what's really left on the battery?
also, when I first got this battery, I put it on the external charger for 12 hours(tuesday night). what else do i need to do to ensure it's going to fully charge while charging IN my phone? This morning this is what I did: charged til all the way green, turned phone off, charging light turned back orange so i waited until it was green again, booted into recovery using clockwork, and then wiped battery stats. this only being my second charge, i know it can take up to 5 or 6 charges to reach battery's full potential, but i have unplugged it and not really used it since 7:30am. my battery widget is telling me I only have 90% left (dropped 2% already while posting this). that seems like it drained that first 10% really quickly. also, i have made another thread about my phone being awake 100% of the time, so I am sure this is contributing to it.
Here is all the info about my phone:
I am rooted.
Rom: 3.26.651.6---Froyo DeOdexed RevE3
Kernal: 2.6.32.15-g746f4f0
htc-kernal@and18-2 #58
PRL Version 60670
PRI Version 1.34_003 (which I can't get updated no matter what i've tried)
baseband version 2.15.00.07.28
I'm using HTC Sense as my launcher.
I am using multicon so i can utilize more of my homescreen with more apps. Other than that, not using any other widgets besides the weather widget.
I can't figure out what's keeping my phone awake. how do I ensure that my battery is going to get a FULL charge while IN my phone.
Trouble updating PRI
I can't get wireless tether to work. (a whole other issue)

I am getting some serious battery drain with Fresh 3.2 and netarchy-toastmod 4.1.9.1 cfs ( i have also used the stable 4.1.8) and I am getting serious drain. Here is a screen shot from today. Unplugged phone around 7:30 and by the time I took the screen cap at 8:30 i was down 25%!! I used the phone to RDP to my house for maybe 3 mins (using pocket cloud app).I also played 1 youtube clip ( katy perry on sesame street XD~~ 1.:30 mins long) Thats all I have done so far. Do you guys think I should try a different combination? I pretty much have everything turned off on the phone. No GPS, sync i think every 4 hours. Using launcher pro, and beautiful widgets.

I installed my first custom rom and kernal yesterday and unfortunately I'm having some battery problems. I left my phone on for 7 hours idle and it only has about 80% left.
The rom i used is BB .4, Kernal is Chevy ULV 1gig
My idle temp is 26c, basic use temp is 36c (browsing, right after quadrant use), is that high?
The usage breakdown is:
Total time on: 6hrs 52 m
Phone Idle: 26% 6hrs 43 min
Cell Standby 20% 6 hrs 49 min
LauncherPro 16% 5m 56s
Android System 12% 4m 32s
FlipClock Blackout 9% 3m 31s
Voice Calls 8% 1m 35s
Display 7% 6m 7s
If it is the kernal then i have to go back to stock right? because ULVs use the least amount of power?
During installation of rom and kernal, i did the wipe data/cache stuff. I also installed a custom boot animation. lots of stuff to do on my first day.

I have 2.1 stock and I don't really want to clear everything for 2.2 (can I upgrade like an OTA to 2.2?) so I want to install a hydra kernal for better battery life. The 2.15 radio update wouldnt stick on my phone for some reason, and 0.5 or 1.0 hydra kernals won't work with 1.0 radio. Is there a hydra version that will?

I just rooted and am running the Sky Raider 3.1 RC3 ROM. I believe this rom comes with KingxKernal #1. I am not getting great battery life as of right now and am hoping that someone can suggest a new Kernal to help with this. I've read that KingKernal #4 can help with battery life, is this compatible with the rom that I am currently using?

Ok so I have already flashed MIUI and i wanna try other roms. Theres a few things i dont understand. One do you have to do a backup after every flash? and what does that backup do does it make it able to reflash the rom? Two do you always have to do a complete wipe when switching roms? and how do you know when to do one? three how do you flash kernals over and know which ones work or not with the rom also i wanna flash cm6 and i have hboot .97 and i herd it doesn work with that how do i go about changing my hboot

I have the KingsxKernal right now and when I tried to flash the CM6 Turbo kernal to the phone it installed and when I rebooted the phone it kept restarting every time it got to the 4G screen and wouldn't go any further. I did the nandroid backup and cleared both caches before installing and then did the reboot so im not sure what I could have done wrong.

Sorry for the stupid question, but I am a n00b when it comes linux. What is the difference between a whole ROM and just a Kernal? I see on the Incredible ROM site you can get a ROM or a Kernal.

I have been using Fresh 3.2 but have been playing around with other kernels (ie Toast, King, etc.). I want to return to the new kernel in Fresh 3.2 but can't seem to find it (I only want to flash the kernel so I don't have to do a complete wipe). Flipz says to use the Fresh Updater, but I see no options for kernel only.

I have been debating rooting and using Fresh 1.1 and was possibly going to do it over lunch today at work, however, i have a question:
With HTC releasing the kernal for 2.1 for the Hero today, what does this mean for me (the unrooted Hero user looking forward to 2.1)?
Is it any indication as to the update being released soon? I know the 99.9% answer to that is "it's up to Sprint to release it" and the 100% answer to that question is "your guess is as good as mine", but historically speaking, when the kernal for a build is released, what timeframe usually exists between kernal release and upgrade release? I guess the bigger question is, what exactly is a "kernal"?
I know most everyone is going to say "root, once 2.1 is released, the cooks will have the rooted version available shortly after" or "root, and if it does come out, you can always flash back the stock RUU and upgrade OTA then", but the think is, I dont' want to root and then with my luck, 2.1 gets released next week
Just looking for some insight/best guesses.
Also, while on rooting, I actually brought a separate microSD card to make the Nandroid backup on. Is this a good/bad idea? Is the best way to do this to make a copy of the SD card on the PC, do the root and flash with a clean card) and then copy everything back to the card? I have an 8 GB card that is nearly full. Don't know how much space is required on the card to root/flash.

I downloaded forcystos Recovery 3.1.1 and Meatcurtains v2 from the kitchen. Since I installed it, I noticed a huge loss in battery life. I was getting 24+ hrs on a single charge even with live wallpapers running...Back down to about 6...
Is that normal?
How do I go back to the way the phone was right before I installed these 2 items?
I was originally on DE03.
joeykrim-SDX-recovery2.1.3
joeykrim-SDX-a2.1-root-v7
Do I just reboot in recovery and reapply that zip?
I was kind of expecting an improvement, but the phone burned more battery and got a little lag since the update.
I just want to go back to where I was.....

I have the FRF57 Froyo ROM installed, and with it comes a 600 OC. I'd like to push it up to 1GHz, but I'm unfamiliar with OCing the Droid. Could you guys post a link to the kernal, please? I can't find one. I'm using the Clockwork flash. Also, to install the kernal, is it the same as installing the ROM? (unzip it into clockwork backup folder, boot in recovery, and restore it?)

So I'm running the CM 6.0.2 rom and i had Kings kernal #1 installed and I was getting great quadrant scores and very stable. Then I tried to use wifi tethering today and....didn't work
I use wifi tethering alot for my ipad(don't flame to much on that) but the wifi tethering kept me from having to buy a 3g ipad and kept me away from AT&T.
So my question is what is the best kernal to use that supports wifi tethering? Without breaking GPS or BT audio?
