HTC EVO 4G :: Astro Player Beta For Low Audio Output On Headphones
Jun 28, 2010
Ok we all know that our evo music playback on headphones is ridiculously low especially if you coming from the iPhone, but today I found Astro player beta which have some good equalizer that can boots your audio output to new level, even louder than the iPhone 4 output with the same headphones,so try it out and keep in mind its still in beta stage so it force close a lot but it doesn't affect music playback when it does that.

Early this morning I d/l another music to try out. It's called Astro Player Nova.
The Nova is a beta app but looks to have promise. It contains several features that I look for and even includes the ever-elusive equalizer!
I use a combination of my Eris' stock player, Cubed (3) and Zimly to accomplish my desire to create playlists, queue songs and have an easy to use interface.
The stock player creates playlists the easiest of any app I've used that can do it, while I love the way that Cubed handles music selection and queuing of songs. Zimly has the easiest and slickest interface of any app I've tried. In fairness to Zimly, I recently found a way to create playlists and queue songs in the app. These features aren't as easy to find or identify in Zimly as within the stock music player or Cubed, but they exist.
Well, I am trying the Nova from Astro and it looks VERY promising! This app allows playlist creation, provides queuing of songs and...wait for it...Wait for it...IT HAS AN EQUALIZER!
This product is still in beta so I'm taking it through the paces, including the equalizer. I have an aux input in my car, I use wireless FM xmitter in my wife's car and I wear headphones when exercising, so I should be able to reasonably assess how useful the equalizer is.
One nice feature of the beta app is that it has a option to send feedback to the developers right from the app. This is nice for those of us who don't have a problem with apps transmitting user data.
I will update this thread as I use Nova more. Also, I'm interested in other opinions from new users.

I'm toying with the idea of making a car dock for my Droid. The official Droid dock doesn't work with any cases and if the iPhone is any indication, no one will ever make one that does. Plus, it doesn't do everything I want.
I want to plug my phone in with as little fuss as possible, have it charge, output audio to my car stereo through USB. Charging is absolutely necessary, and I want to avoid using the headphone jack for audio if I can because it's an extra thing I'd have to plug in rather than just sliding the phone right in the dock. Better yet if the USB audio output is a constant volume intended for control on another device.
So.. Is it possible? If I need hack a car charger in to a usb audio cable I'm fine with that (unless I could get both in one). This thing would do it, but it looks like it has more pins than standard usb (can't really tell in that pic, but maybe someone knows?), and the Droid doesn't.
My other options are connecting the Droid directly to the head unit via USB and mounting it as a mass storage device, but I prefer the way the Droid handles music better than the head unit, and mounting the USB is an extra step I'd probably get too lazy for. And finally, I'd considered making an app that spoofs an iPod, since my HU has iPod controls, but that's more work than it's worth when the Android music player's controls are just as good.

I subscribed to JetFlix, in the market. (Jetflicks! TV - Android app on AppBrain) It is a $3 app with a $10/month subscription. I watch it on my phone in my car at the lake during my lunch break. I know that probably sounds sad, but it is AWESOME. I'm a manager in the dang corporate world, and I forget that I am at work by the time I'm done with a movie and come on back to the office. It's my dirty little secret. ANYWAY, there are some great shows available on this application, and I was thinking of replacing my Netflix subscription with it if I could just stream it to my TV at home. I haven't bought an HDMI cable yet, because I don't have a use for one just yet. But is anything "streamable" to the tv? I read that only pictures and videos that were shot with the camera stream though the HDMI cable. If that is the case, what is the point? I keep all that stuff on a hard drive anyway. So my question: can I hook up an HDMI cable and stream Jetflicks to my TV? The Jetflicks movies play on the native Internet browser. So I guess a more accurate question would be: Does the native internet browser display on the TV through the HDMI cable? If so, is there audio?

I'm trying to play a music (using MediaPlayer) during a call and want the caller to hear the music I'm playing. Unluckily it doesn't seem work at all, the caller hear nothing even I set the music volumn to MAX ( of course, the speaker and the mic on Android are far away from each other). Is there any ways to route Android's audio output to its Mic? Or something like "Stereo Mix" in Windows?

I use music application (PlayerPro) and a time (LafayChrono). Problem, the clock application serves medias volumes output, not the alarm volumes output. So, I can not set the volume independently of one another.
My question is, if it is possible to "root" the sound output of an app to another type of volume (LafayChrono to alarm volumes output) ?

When I connect my Droid RAZR MAXX or ASUS Transformer to my HD monitor, the video displays fine, but there is no sound. I suspect this is because the monitor does not have any speakers, but I was hoping there would be a way to just let the audio play from the device. That's what my laptop does when connected via VGA (which might not support audio anyway; I don't know a lot about the different inputs/outputs).

I'd like to use my Moto Droid in my car using as few as cables as possible. Does anyone know if there is way to connect just the USB cable so I can charge the droid and get analog audio too? I would like to connect one cable to the droid when I get in my car and not mess with the 3.5 audio connector or an FM modulator etc. I was thinking there may be a cable that connects to the droids usb and can charge the droid and have a 3.5 auxiliary audio output to plug into my stereo.
I read a few of the threads on the forum but couldn't locate the answer and it doesnt seem any of the similar 3-1 or 2-1 products I find list the moto Droid as an approved device. (HTC Multifunction Audio Adapter for CellularSouth HTC Hero / HTC Hero / Sprint Hero / T-Mobile myTouch 3G, myTouch 3G Fender / Verizon HTC Droid Eris - Phandroid Store)

I was playing around with some of the live wallpapers and thought it'd be neat to try to make something like the frequency/waveform visualization wallpapers, but I'm not sure there's an API to get the audio output data from the device. I know you can use AudioRecords to get this sort of data from microphones. Anyone know if there's a way to manage it for a device's output?

Does anyone feel that EVO's media audio output volume is low? I am a former iPhone user and IMO there is a noticeable difference in the overall output db level compared to iPhone only when playing audio files like mp3 and .wav. Does anyone know if there is a way to boost the audio output volume for non rooted users? Is there an app that could help?

I got an S3 clone and the phone works fine but when I woke up this morning, I come to find out the audio stopped working. All audio function works when I plug in the headphones though (dialer, video, etc) Is there anything I can do to fix it? I've tried resetting, plugging and unplugging headphones, *#0*# (it says connection problems or invalid mmi).

I have an .avi file with a 5.1 audio stream, but the stream is messed up - most of the sound is coming out of the FR channel, because it was improperly encoded from a mono or stereo source. I can watch the video ok on a pc if I use gomplayer and set up AC3 decoder to downmix to mono - the audio from all channels is mixed and played through L and R channels of headphones.
The Question is:
Does android have an app or a plugin to downmix to mono audio, for Nexus 7?
I know Voodoo control panel can do this, but it doesn't work with N7.
I also tried a number of players - mx player, mobo player pro, moboplayer, dice player, vplayer, rock player lite, bs player. There may have been a few more I don't recall at the moment.None of these players have the option to downmix to mono.

Can android apps share access to the audio output? I sometimes use Maps Navigation, which will give audible turn by turn instructions. I plug the EVO to my car stero using a patch cord so that I hear the instructions over my radio.
However, if I'm using another application that outputs audio, like Pandora or the music player, they go silent as soon as Maps speaks an instruction.
What I would like is for the apps to be able to share the audio output with some kind of priority set, so that Pandora would pause momentarily while Maps spoke an instruction and then resume.
Is that possible?

Haven't been around these parts in awhile, but news of the update brought me back. I have a question about an issue I've had since day 1, but always just kind of accepted. When I listen with headphones to podcasts, music, etc. I get weird signal noise. It's most noticeable when listening to podcasts/talk as there is lots of room to hear the noise on the line. It's like low little hums, "chirps," not totally sure how to describe it. Just not a clean, clear silence when there should be silence. I've used different headphones, definitely not anything there. I'm wondering if this is a known issue, a problem with some handsets, fixable, etc.?

I have a little issue here with my droid's audio output: it seems to be randomly deciding it should come out of the handset rather than the speaker. I notice this happens often when I end a call, that the audio doesn't switch back to the speaker, but it also seems to happen completely at random - for example, it happened at some point when I was asleep last night, which prevented my phone waking me up when my mom was trying to call me this morning, because the ringtone came out of the handset, and thus, was too quiet for me to hear.
Using google voice, I found a workaround - I set voicemails to play through the speaker instead of the handset in the app, so if I go in there and play a voicemail, it'll switch me back to speaker. I can also sometimes get switched back to speaker by making a call, but that's inconsistent, since calls are just as likely to cause the problem as to solve it. I don't know if this is being caused by an app or not.

found an app that will allow me to send audio to a bluetooth receiver / speaker AND allow me to use headphones / wired speaker at the same time??
I'm not rooted. If this could be done via rooting, I might just consider doing it.
AND, while I'm asking, can the audio signal be sent to and received by two different bluetooth receivers at the same time? I currently only have one bluetooth audio receiver, so I can't try it.

I have had my Droid since release day, and I am still carrying an iPod Touch as well. My problem is that I keep getting problems with audio playback using headphones with an inline remote. For me, it is absolutely essential to be able to pause/play audio when out and about. People talk to me, I get up to the checkout stand, etc. And, the process of pulling the phone out, swiping it on, getting to the app and pressing pause just won't work. Headphones with inline remotes are the only thing that really work for me.
The problem is that the Droid can't seem to play nicely with these remotes. The volume controls never work at all, and sometimes the pause/play works, sometimes it acts like a skip to the next track. Sometimes it just freaks out and starts cycling through my various audio apps (Listen, Pandora, the stock music app) and then eventually freezes. Has anyone found a workable way to do what I want? I need to be able to pause and play audio while the phone is entirely stashed away.

I'm told that the android 2.2 OS uses Flash 10.1...correct? Can someone explain what the enhancements in 10.1 Beta 3 are? I've read that it's for android 2.2. Since I have already installed 2.2 on my EVO, are there any benefits to the beta version? Has anyone installed this as of yet? and what improvements do they see.

is that possible (at least theoretically) to get working steaming audio to wireless and wired headphones simultaneously [Android 4]? It doesn't matter, if you steam the whole system sound or just sound of single program (for example music player). The idea is to get audio output on 2 devices at the same time. If that is not possible, can confirm possibility to steam audio using A2DP to 2 separate headsets? I've met some old devices (for example samsung cell phones on their own OS) which allowed to select multiple bluetooth devices as clients and steam music from the player simultaneously to multiple headsets.

I listen to Pandora on the Eris and podcasts on the HTC provided media player. At full volume with earphones, the volume is still quite low, much lower than what my blackberry puts out, and not very good. Any way to up the volume besides the side volume rocker? Would a different media player application give me a better volume output or is it a problem built into the phone?

The default android video player and the other one provided by my vendor display clear banding when playing videos. The video itself is fine because when played with BSPlayer with HW experimental there is no banding visible.
The videos are played through the MediaPlayer interface of Android. I am still not sure if it is a dithering issue or a surface format issue. I tried different modifications to the player/machine without success.
1. Build.prop settings: persist.sys.use_dithering=1 (tried 2 as well) and video.accelerate.hw=1
2. Adding the dither flag with addFlags( WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_DITHER )
3. Making sure the surfaces are in RGBA_8888 with setFormat of surfaces
4. Forcing dithering in View.smali of framework.jar
How I could fix this issue with the default player. Wondering if it could be related to drivers or native code.
I ran those two apks listed here and no banding visible at all: [URL]
