HTC EVO 4G :: Any Sense ROMs With Vanilla Froyo Dialer?
Aug 30, 2010
I would like to try the Fresh Rom because of 4g and I hear it has excellent battery life. However, HTC (in their infinite wisdom) has decided that we really don't need a way to toggle bluetooth on or off during a call and has removed that button from their dialer. Bluetooth, what's that? A bluetooth toggle to be used during a call? No one would need that, let's code it out on purpose! Ok, enough ranting. Is there a way to get the vanilla froyo dialer on a Fresh (sense-based) ROM?

I am a huge fan of the Fresh builds by Flipz over at Geek For Me - Sprint Evo 4g & CDMA Hero. I have a proposal for a new build (once able, of course) and wanted your guys opinions. I think most of us agree the best part of HTC's 'sense' is the widgets. HTC designed the Sense UI back in Android 1.5 days and it's a bit dated. The Froyo version of the Picture Gallery, Music Player, Dialer, App Drawer and Lock Screen are far superior to the Sense iterations. I think this would be the best build on the EVO: I'm talkin' the actual Froyo build here, not something that 'looks like' Froyo, not the HTC build with Sense disabled (still keeps the HTC Music, Gallery, Dialer, Lock screen etc.). I'm talkin' the full whammy, 'extra pickles' awesomeness. Code...

Read in the past where things weren't working such as camera, bluetooth, GPS, LED notifications, etc. And then I stopped paying attention for about a month But now, my phone is bugging me every 30 minutes that an update is available, so I either have to move to stock 2.2 or something else, so would much rather have vanilla. So was just wondering if there are any vanilla Froyo builds with everything working? I see that two of them are in RC status, but are they stable enough to use without major headaches?

Are there any Froyo roms out there that have sense? I'm running KaosFroyo and while it is nice and quick, and has had little bugs, I'm still a big fan of the Sense UI.So anything available? I've been searching here and xda and can't find what I'm looking for.

My husband just rooted my phone for me and I'm looking for a ROM that has the vanilla (I think that's what it's called) dialer. One of my main motivations for going root was to get rid of the awful HTC dialer. I know there are few ROMs out there that use DialerOne as a default but I'm looking for something more like the Moto Droid or the other vanilla ROMs I've seen. A few people are running WhiteWidow ROM but it looks like that one's been taken down for now.

I just downloaded skyraider 2.5.x vanilla, and love it, except for the htc dialer. Is there any 2.2 rom, other than cm6, that has the vanilla (non-htc) dialer?

Is it possible to theme the htc dialer to look more vanilla? i'd like to try a vanilla rom, but the htc dialer just annoys me with the way it runs up against the white notification bar (with the rounded edges that go into black corners).

I've been playing around with a few different ROMs to find the one that's the most stable for me, but something weird has happened. Most of the ROMs I like the best have the vanilla dialer which I love but the look of the dialer has changed and I'm not sure why.
At one point the dialer had the END, SPKR, MUTE etc., on the call screen so if you pulled the phone away from your ear you could see those buttons. Now when I'm on a call I have a little tab that I have to pull up to access the number pad and I have to hit MENU to bring up the END, SPKR and MUTE settings. I really want to go back to the way it was before. This has happened on several ROMs.

How can I get the vanilla (Nexus style) contacts and dialer on my Desire? It can store custom labels in even phone contacts. I had flashed to a LeeDroid 2.1 ROM earlier and noticed that it had the vanilla contacts and dialer in addition to the normal Desire Sense one. So I know it's possible. Lekky has also a link to the Nexus gallery app, so this gives me even more confidence that the contacts and dialer app must be available somewhere too.

I've asked this question a couple of times but haven't got an answer. My question gets lost over on XDA-Developers. Just wondering if anyone here knows if I can somehow import the vanilla dialer into this ROM. Are there some .apks I can install?

Is this possible? More specifically, let's say that I want to use the stock Desk Clock application on the Evo. How would I go about doing that, if at all? And if I wanted (because I'm a whore) to use the Nexus live wallpaper? I assume that that's doable, and easier as well?

Mods please feel free to move this if it's not in the right section. I'm running skyraider 3.0 rc2 vanilla and love it so far. There are only a couple of things that I miss from stock sense. The one that I am after is a bookmark widget. I can't find any on the market. This got me thinking about widgets in general. There should be a list of widgets somewhere for people going to vanilla Roms. Is there such a list anywhere? We need one similar to the rooted apps thread. Just a thought. And if someone has any thoughts on a bookmark widget, that would be awesome. Or would the stock one work and where can I find it?

I haven't rooted. I am willing to root to get 2.2 FroYo. Rooting kinda frightens me. I semi waited for 2.1. I downloaded the file from this form and manually applied it rather than wait for Verizon to send it to me. I want a plain Vanilla FroYo. Am I better off waiting for the official verizon release?

I'm currently running Warm TpT and I love it, and just wanted to know what the difference is between ROMS w/ Sense opposed to ROMS w/o Sense. I live in an area w/ 4g and am quite fond of it so I've stuck w/ ROMS running sense. Also, are there any Senseless ROMS that have 4g?

I'll admit, I don't know much about rooting at all, so i've been lurking around here getting an idea of how to go about it. I'm pretty tech savvy, so it's nothing over my head, I'm just unfamiliar with it.I'm really unhappy with Motorola's latest droid x update. Updating to Froyo seems to have just made my phone significantly slower, the rotation is less responsive, etc. (the 2.3.15 update) All I would really want to do is, I'd want to root the phone and just load a stock Froyo ROM onto here. No extra moto or verizon BS, just the stock OS and whatever apps I want on it. Does that make sense? How would I go about doing that?

I have an HTC Rezound. But this issue goes deeper than just the Rezound or even Sense phones.
I installed a dialer app that I *LOVE*...it is faster and more usable than sense, and even themeable. It works perfectly. The problem is that for incoming called, Sense keeps rearing it's fugly head and forcing me to use it.
I have tried disabling various processes and that damn app still comes up on incoming calls. How to make the fugly Sense dialer go away for good without having to root? I do have ICS installed.

Anyone running snap 7.6 kernel with turbo? I am and other than the big quadrant scores which I think have a lot to do with the read/write speed increase due to the partition, I don't notice much difference between this ROM kernel combo and any other I have tried. What is your opinion. I switched back to CM6 until MIUI MMS is working all the way around and I was lead to dialer one, which is the reason I left CM6 in the first place, I like the sense style dialer.

I don't like the sense screen that comes up when you make calls, and I have google voice installed. How do I make sure that the google voice screen, pictured below, sticks instead of having it switch to the sense call screen. Also, can I theme the google voice app? I'm not a fan of the colors.

I'm running basic Sprint 2.1 rooted. I've removed all the bloatware, and wireless tether is working great. Pretty much everything is working great, actually, aside from the standard dialer and contact lag many people have reported, plus occasional lag in other areas.
So here's my question: Is there a custom ROM out there that solves the lagginess problem while leaving everything else basically functional and intact? I've been reading the threads around all the various ROMs, and while it seems that some offer real advantages in various areas, it also appears that each introduces its own new set of problems and dysfunctions. While I'd love a snappier phone, I don't want a bunch of new bugs, worse battery life, whatever. I mean, based on the threads here, the average custom ROM user's experience would seem to be slightly worse than my experience with the standard Sprint release.

I had stock for quite a while and got tired of it. I then went to use Fresh which I liked it but seemed to slow down the phone a little with all the sense crap on it. I am now using Cyanogenmod 6 and so far I love it. I was just wondering which other rom's out there don't use sense UI, also which rom works best on the htc evo and or which kernel. I am simply using the stock 1500mah battery but am really thinking about buying those battery's on ebay 3500mah ones.

Most the roots I see on XDA are pretty much sense with a few colorful addons and launchers. If anyone has links to really different roms that don't really use sense post a link. And no adw launchers or launcher pro.
