HTC EVO 4G :: Custom ROMs - Clean And With No Sense UI
Nov 10, 2010I'm looking to upgrade my Hero to either an EVO or Epic and want to get an idea of what custom ROMs are available for each. I'm looking for a stripped down, clean, barebones install with no Sense UI. CM 6.1 seems like a good choice, but reportedly, 4G doesn't work (I have great 4G coverage in my area). So clean, Senseless, with 4G?

Oct 16, 2010I had stock for quite a while and got tired of it. I then went to use Fresh which I liked it but seemed to slow down the phone a little with all the sense crap on it. I am now using Cyanogenmod 6 and so far I love it. I was just wondering which other rom's out there don't use sense UI, also which rom works best on the htc evo and or which kernel. I am simply using the stock 1500mah battery but am really thinking about buying those battery's on ebay 3500mah ones.

What good roms are there that don't use Sense? You'd think this would be pretty basic information, but I haven't been able to find a list anywhere.

Nov 5, 2010I've tried a bunch of roms but what so special about sense roms from the stock sense besides the fact they remove sprint bloatware and add a theme? I've tried fresh and myns etc. They just are basically stock sense with a theme and a different launcher and some added apps. I don't notice any special feature and people are saying how great they are but I am missing something cause they arn't much different.

Aug 30, 2010I would like to try the Fresh Rom because of 4g and I hear it has excellent battery life. However, HTC (in their infinite wisdom) has decided that we really don't need a way to toggle bluetooth on or off during a call and has removed that button from their dialer. Bluetooth, what's that? A bluetooth toggle to be used during a call? No one would need that, let's code it out on purpose! Ok, enough ranting. Is there a way to get the vanilla froyo dialer on a Fresh (sense-based) ROM?

Nov 8, 2010I have been trying out some different ROMs trying to pick out a daily and I have ran into a very annoying problem. When I download a sense ROM I cannot send MMS through Handcent or ChompSMS. However, the stock messaging app works like a charm when sending them. The only problem is that I hate the stock messaging app. I always wipe and don't flash any other zips before I try sending the MMS and it still doesn't work. The weird thing is that I can use Handcent and ChompSMS on the CM6 ROM. I've tried the APN method and factory data resets. Nothing.
Here's the sense ROMs I have tried with no luck:
-Myn's RLS2 and 3
-Nil's business sense
-Virtuous v3.1.0
-SkyRaider 3.3
Today I actually unrooted my phone and got everything stock again, and Handcent and Chomp still didn't work. This is very annoying because I have flashed probably 30 times in the past 3 days trying to find a Sense ROM I can get to work.
Sprint HTC Hero :: Exchange Support - Sense V.s. Nonsense ROMs
Jul 11, 2010I have rooted 2.1 on my Sprint Hero. So far I have tried Fresh 2.3.3, Darchdroid 2.7 and PureHero 2.3.I rooted for several issues, most of which have been solved, but my number one issue seems to still be haunting me. Good corporate exchange support! Sense based ROM's (Fresh 2.3.3 and stock) support Exchanges security policy and force you to enter a PIN, but bring up the keyboard. My company requires number in the PIN and therefore I have to switch to numbers and enter my pin on a keyboard. I can no longer chew gum and use my phone at the same time. Nonsense based ROM's (Darch and Pure) don't require the PIN and allow me to use a pattern security on my phone, but they don't let me overlay my exchange calendar onto my phone with my google calendar. They only sync mail and contacts. Hope this is where I am missing something. This is a deal breaker for me since I have google calendars for everyone in my family and exchange for work. Got to see them all in one place to be where I need to be.I have tried Lockpicker on the sense ROM's, but then I have no phone security. I have too much info on my phone to go with no security, but I don't want to quit chewing gum.Any suggestions? Is there ways to pick and choose some of the features in sense?

Jul 2, 2010Ok after I patched my Evo with the OTA update, I am wishing I had rooted first. In an attempt to figure out what I want to do at this point, I'm leaning toward rooting and flashing a custom rom. The questions in my mind are:
1) What are the benefits/disadvantages of the different ROMs out there today? Has anyone made any sort of review site for roms, or a comparison chart?
2) Is there one source that would have all major ROMs in one place? (I'm thinking xda forums, but haven't had time to try to pour through that yet).
3) If all one is looking for is to be able to run root-required apps (Backups, Tether, screen shots, etc..) Is a root + stock ROM the best way to go?
4) Should I Plan on losing ALL my data/settings on the first root? (I know google and other cloud stuff remains intact, as well as the SD card items). Coming from a Palm OS (sadly not WebOS), I find Android great in some respects, but the lockdown of a true backup still boggles my mind. I'm sure these have been asked elsewhere, and if you know where feel free to boot me in that direction, sadly after sifting through a few hours worth of root forums I still can't find the basic info above when it comes to the Evo 4G (I found answers for a few other models)

Dec 21, 2009So Im kinda confused of this whole custom rom thing, is it like a custom firmware on PSP or jailbreak on iphone? Does HTC update the hero a lot? I mean what if I just wanted to stick with HTCs firmwares? Are they good? What is the most significant advantage of the custom roms? I like things simple.

Feb 23, 2014I'm currently running the Carbon ROM (Nightly) (4.3.1) on my GT-N7100 Note II phone. With Kernel version 3.0.64-CM-gd6f2fa. I have my phone but i'm curious as to about the findmymobile service not being able to work on this phone simply because all samsung services have stopped. In fact it was the only service I would've most likely used from Samsung.
On the Samsung website trying to access my phone as a test, it simply comes up saying 'offline' which is obvious considering it's not installed on my mobile. Is there a way to be able to get findmymobile information on my phone?
