View 33 Replies View RelatedThe race is on. Which first-generation Android phone will receive an upgrade to Android 2.1 first?
Many thought Sprint would lead off (with all the noise they made), but they have yet to produce. T-Mobile remains fairly quiet, but they could jump ahead to Android 2.2 since Google is in charge of the software for some of their phones.
Today we learn that Verizon has posted the details for the upcoming Android 2.1 upgrade of the Droid Eris. Customers will receive the update over the air (OTA), which is good so customers don't have to take their phone in to Verizon. Other carriers like Sprint will be release their upgrades over the wire.
Like we predicted, it appears the Android 2.1 upgrade will wipe the internal memory of the phone. Verizon warns customers that they will need to reinstall some applications, their contacts will be erased (don't worry, they are all synced in the clouds), and some phone settings will return to defaults.
The update is mandatory, so customers should start looking at apps to backup their apps (or just re download them from the Market).
No information was proved on when the OTA update would be available, so it could drop at any time. When Verizon released the information for the Droid 2.1 upgrade, it still took several weeks before they finally pushed it out (but they did have delays).
How do you feel about a software upgrade wiping your phone? I don't think it is that big a deal and it will benefit most customers by greatly speeding up their phone. However, I can also understand how many unknowing customers might accidentally delete some piece of data.

I want the flash 10.1 on my htc eris so I assume that I need froyo 2.2. Is there a guide to do this or will the eris get flash 10.1 soon?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have the update.zip file meant for the Incredible. Before I brick my phone: I've allowed non-sanctioned software in Settings. 1) Will this allow me to use the 2.2 meant for the Incredible, and 2) will it brick my phone? I have the procedure to root the phone and install the 2.2 ROM that way, but this seems easier. Plus, can I then unroot?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've seen videos on youtube where someone has rooted an eris and put froyo 2.2 on the phone. The question I have is if you can root the eris if its already been upgraded to 2.1 and if you can how in depth is it. Where would you go to get the program and is it as easy as the videos up for rooting with 2.1 from 1.5.

View 19 Replies View RelatedI have had some issues with my Eris and Verizon is offering me a Droid (also, LG Ally, HTC Imagio, Droid is the best option here)
I had a few questions that I saw on here, but I'm not 100% about.
1. Does this come with a cable to connect to the PC? The Eris's charger was both a charger and a cord to connect to the PC, really like this ability.
2. Does Droid have the ability to run Froyo WITHOUT rooting?
3. Can you comment on some things I may find annoying or cumbersome with the phone?
4. Can you comment on the benefits I will get?
I've been using Nonsensikal since rooting, and I guess I'll need to find a new ROM. Anyone have any suggestions for a good Froyo ROM(non-sense)? I tried Tazz and Kaosfroyo a while back but they seemed a little rough, have they improved enough?
Also is anyone having trouble with their Nonsensikal ROM? My phone has been a complete dog today, it's like it's stock again. I haven't upgraded to 10.0 but am in the process right now.
I've come to the conclusion that I really don't like the default keyboard included with the kaosfroyo rom. As cool as it looks, its just bad at correcting mistakes. The htc keyboard was great once you calibrated it, and seemed to remember certain words that you use often to suggest them over other choices. Is it possible to install the HTC keyboard on this rom? Are they any other keyboards worth trying?
View 9 Replies View RelatedThe one thing I just couldn't get to work was Navigation in Froyo ROMs. It would always get stuck at "Searching for GPS." Well on xda, a fellow member told me to flash the new CFS kernal from Conap ) So this is what I did to finally get the Navigation to work!
1. Reboot into recovery and make a Nandroid backup just in case.
2. Wipe Dalvik cache
3. Flash new CFS kernal [GPL]2.6.29.6 CFS Kernel 9/4/10 - xda-developers(There is also a BFS kernal which is only if you want high benchmarks, CFS is for overall stability)
4. Once rebooted, clear the data of Maps in Settings > Applications > Manage Applications
5. Open up Maps and put in directions to an address, then click Navigate.
6. Once Navigation is up and running, it will get stuck at "Searching for GPS." Make a sandwich, wash dishes, etc.
7. Sooner or later it will get pass the "Searching for GPS" stage. (It took 15 minutes for me)
8. Navigation should be working instantly now, back out of Navigation, try a new address, and Navigation should instantly work without having to go through "Searching for GPS."
I've been running xtrSense and xtrRom for months with great results.
I decided to try a Froyo based Rom and my first two attempts (FroShedYo.V6 and Nonsensikal v13.2) both had the same WiFi issue.
I can't connect or even detect my wireless network. I'm 5 feet away from the AP which had great connectivity with the xtr Roms.
Settings..show Wi-Fi scanning continously.
Reboot...cycled airplane mode... nothing.
Even rewiped and reflashed.
Everything else appears to be working great.
It doesn't go together! Anyone found a fix for this?
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhile I know you can use camera magic for your camera needs with a froyo rom..figured I'd share the good news. There is a CELB 1.9 rom (aka erislightning bolt froyo) that has WORKING cam...the gallery still goes funky when you try to view sideways but the cam DOES indeed have a working preview!

I've settled on an overclocked speed of 748/748 with a sleep profile of 528/528. I use Weather Bug Elite with no background data updates as I press menu > update each time I open the app. Syncing is done manually, no autosync enabled for gmail or calendar. The browser and all other caches are cleared in menu > applications > manage applications each night prior to shutting down and putting the device on the charger.
I really want to use a Froyo Rom, right not I'm looking at KaosFroyo and Nonsensikal, but I'm not sure how to get Wired Tether to work. I'm running xtrROM right now and It works fine, but every time i flash KaosFroyo, I try to run Wired Tether, and no luck. Can someone walk me through how to run Wired Tether on a 2.2 ROM?
View 6 Replies View RelatedSo I currently have Cyanogen Tazz v4 installed and I'm loving it. I understand that there probably won't be a fix for the Froyo camera issue until there's a new kernel so I'm fine with using Camera Magic as a stand by. My only issue is I'm a big Gowalla user and I've just recently been able to upload photos using my Eris, there's been a known problem with it for a few months now. What I want to know is how do I make Camera Magic my default camera for all camera related actions? I see in the settings where I can set it as default and it is checked but when I pick Take Photo in Gowalla I only get the options of Camera (the stock not working camera) and Camera 360 (also not working). Anyone have any ideas?
View 3 Replies View RelatedLauncherPro hides the dialer button that you get in stock Froyo, and when I hit the Call button, it pulls up call history. Is there a way to change what comes up when I hit the call button? The only sense feature i miss is the dialer (minus the lag). I hate having to hit the search button or scroll through the list to find the contact I want to dial.
