HTC Droid Eris :: Multiple SMS Alerts / Disabling Eris SMS App

I have been doing some reading about power conservation on the Eris, to extend battery time. Several people have mentioned dumping the standard SMS app and going with 3rd party. I decided to download ChompSMS and Handcent to try out. So far, I think I like Handcent the most, but everytime I get a message, all three apps fire off a notification.I have uninstalled ChompSMS, but I still get both the Eris app and Handcent notifications. What is the best was to disable the Eris app? I tried killing everything with ATM, but it just comes back whenever a message comes in.

Questions about alerts: 1) Is there a way to get your alerts to be sound only? It still plays a sound AND vibrates, and that's driving me nuts. 2) Is there a way for the "native" alert sound management software to recognize imported files for alerts? I've used a downloaded program that will allow me to pick song files, but it's use of them is inconsistent, even though when I go to the setting, it still has the file I chose listed.

I picked up an Eris this weekend and I'm loving it! This is my first "smartphone" so I'm pretty pumped! I recently setup a link to my Flickr account and keep getting notifications everytime one of my contacts posts something to their account (can get overwhelming quickly). I tried looking for a way in-phone and on Flickr to disable the notifications but haven't found a solution so far. Anyone have an idea on how to disable/modify Flickr notifications?

Anyone have any tips on disabling 3g without going into airplane mode in the form of a widget, without running Sense. I'm using Helix Launcher, and sure I can use anycut but I was looking for something that just requires one tap....running 2.1v2

I d/l the Shapewriter Keyboard so I can swipe while texting, but I need to disable the Android keyboard for it to work. The problem is that I can't find where to disable it.
I am using Android 1.5 and I read on a post that I need to go through Settings/Locale & Text and there should be an option to disable the Android Keyboard, but there isn't. Even after I install the Shapewriter Keyboard the only keyboard showing is the default.

So I've been counting on the alerts from the calendar to warn me prior to meetings (not synced to Outlook- system won't allow). I haven't changed anything on the phone and today it didn't alert me for two different appointments? Has this happened to you? Also, is there any way to set the time of alert different from the standard 5 minutes before appointment?

Is there a way to make the vibration stronger. I'm used to my Curve where the vibration was strong. But the eris is very weak, most of the time when it's in the case on my belt I miss calls because I can't feel it.

Just wondering, on 1.5, the Ringer/Alerts volume was locked together so however loud the Ringer volume was, the notification volume would be the same. Since upgrading to 2.1 OTA, they are no longer linked together. Is there any way I can link them back together so they are they same volume without having to individually change each one? It's kind of annoying when I set my Ringer volume to low, and all of the sudden I get a text and it's almost 3 times as loud.

Is there a way to disable the start up sound on the Eris? Also, it recognizes my WiFi network. I type in the password, it obtains the address, and then it says unsuccessful.

I wasn't sure where to put this but does anyone know how to stop my phone making double alerts when I get a text? Because when I get a new text, Hand cent will post an icon in the notification panel and there will always be another notification icon next to it, I think it is the stock app doing that. Now I have set Hand cent as my default messaging app and I am running the 2.1 v3 leak.

I really like better keyboard pro except for one thing: when i type the phrase/word "lol" it always suggests "LOL" (all caps) and auto types it when i press space (auto-correct feature) the only problem is i almost never capitalize this word, any way to get it to stop doing this without disabling auto-correct?

I have Swype installed on my Eris, which I love for texting, but I would rather use the stock HTC keyboard when using the browser. Is there any way to set it so that the browser automatically defaults to the HTC keyboard, and text messages default to Swype? I looked around in all the settings and didn't find anything.

Has anyone anyone found a fix to the silent phone problem with 2.1...its outrageous and it happens to me multiple times a week, then I have to restart phone and wait 2 min before I can call that person back. Is there ANY solution to this?

Gmail itself receives email perfectly. The problem is when I compose an email, there is no option to add multiple recipients. The HTC mail app has an icon of a "person" next to the recipient (or "to" block). There is no such icon on the gmail app. There is a "to" block but no way to add multiple recipients. I have to manual type in a name (though it does recognize and try and auto finish the name). Am I missing something? Typing each name in for a mass email is a huge pain.

When I bring up the list of contacts in the Phone app (not the People app) it shows left and right arrows. However, they don't do anything.So if I want to use a different number for a contact (ie home vs cell) I have to actually hit the Rolodex icon and then select the number.I n every other phone I've had one could always select which number to call. Of course there is always the default number chosen when first setting up the contact.So how does one do this from the list in the phone app?

I did a search on the forum and a search on google and failed. I want to send two pictures to a friend of mine via texting. I can only select one picture through handcent. Is there an app out there that can help? I thought I read about one, but I can't seem to find it again. Or am I just failing at finding the right commands to do it?

I've installed handcent on my HTC Eris and when I get a new message I get a notification from both Handcent and the default app. I only want notifications from handcent. How do I turn off notifications from one and not the other? This happens with my email as well.

I just got a Droid Eris on Monday. The girl helping me at Verizon programmed my personal g mail account in as she was doing the initial set up. Since then I have attempted to set up my business email account which uses the Google Business Account on my Eris. Thus far I have been unable to add my second email account. Can someone help me?

My wife recently got a Droid Eris, set up her Gmail account and decided she didn't like the email address you had chosen. I created a second Gmail account for her, but when I try to send her and email to it, she does not get notification on her phone. Only if you send and email to her "original" Gmail address. Is it possible to set it up to receive notifications from both addresses on her phone? Delete one address and just use the new one? Etc, etc.

Sometimes when I add a new person to contacts, multiple duplicate entries get created. I've seen 2 to 3 entries for a new contact, and this has happened roughly 3 times since I got my phone a month or so ago.What's up?

I've created multiple sub calendars within my standard gmail calendar account to managed my kids calendars. Doesn't look as though these calendars will come over to my Eris running 1.6. Is that correct? Any work around or am I missing something?
In the calendar option on the phone I see:

This might just be me being picky, but... after the update yesterday, when I go to select multiple contacts to send a text to it now gives a list of EVERYONE in my phone book and facebook friends listing their home/email/cell phone numbers all individually, which caused the list to go from about 50 names to scroll through to over 300. Now before the update when I went to select multiple contacts to send a text to it was just the list of the people who's phone numbers I have in my phone. (BTW, this is the stock messaging feature, not an app or any of that). I've looked for hours for a setting to only show phone numbers and not to show facebook contacts in the text selection but no luck at all. Can you guys help a semi tech savvy guy out here?

On my Droid Eris (just updated to Android 2.1), I have taken advantage of 2.1 offering support for multiple Gmail accounts. So I have 3 Gmail Accounts in the Gmail app. My question pertains to how Android syncs the contact lists (which include many of the same contacts) from these 3 separate accounts. Will I end up with dozens of duplicate contacts? If so, is there a workaround? Also, is there an easier way to switch between different Gmail accounts? E.g., in the Gmail app, you have to go to Menu then Accounts, which is inefficient. The built-in mail app displays a list of accounts when you open it (an ideal approach), but I would prefer to not open my Gmail accounts in the default mail app.

I have a Google Calendar account that I log into with my yahoo email address. On this calendar I also can view my calendars of other family members.The problem I am having is that I had to create a google account when I bought the phone. However, I can't seem to get my non-google calendar to show up on the phone.I have tried using my new google account to "friend" my non-google calendar account but it's still not showing up.
