HTC Eris :: Available Updates Will Be Compatible With Phone?
Jul 18, 2010So I flashed CM6 that was ported for the Eris and I looked in the ROM manager application and noticed that there are updates you can check for. If theres an update will it be compatible with me phone? Because it was ported for the eris. So does that cause any issues?

Feb 24, 2010This morning when I turned on my Eris, I received a notice that I had 2 new updates! I was excited because I thought it might be Android 2.1. Hearing that updates can take a lot of battery power, I decided to use Advanced Task Killer to kill all unnecessary tasks before installing the updates. I opened ATK, killed the selected tasks, and boom!, the updates disappeared! I manually checked for updates under Settings, but it says my phone is up to date. I called Verizon and they said if Settings doesn't show any updates, they must have installed automatically. I don't buy that. Updates are supposed to take several minutes and I checked Settings right after the update notification disappeared. So unless they installed in a matter of seconds, something is wrong.

Nov 8, 2010Does anyone know how Swype updates its dictionary? I know it pulls words from my contacts list, but does it get them from any other source? There are certain words that constantly show up in Swype, even though I have deleted them countless times. "i'd" is a big one. I would never type the word "I" and leave it uncapitalized, and, yet, it somehow keeps reappearing in the dictionary. Certain letter combinations like "nt," "ou," and others continue to show up, even after I've deleted them. That's what has me thinking it's pulling words from something else on the phone. Is there any way to make it stop doing that?

Jan 16, 2010This morning I power cycled my Eris for for first time in a week or so. After that, the notificaton area said I have four updates waiting.I think I selected the "My Tracks" app for update, but when I did, it told me to make sure I had at least 40% battery charge, the phone would be unusable during the update, etc., and it proceeded to install the OTA update to build 1.17.605.1.That's fine, but now the phone doesn't show any apps with available updates.Will these apps automatically notify me again that updates are available? Do all apps routinely check?

Dec 12, 2009I have searched google and the forum here. I have also looked on the phone, but it is possible I am missing the setting I am looking for. Under the People 'app,' there is an updates and events tab. I am a bit OCD, and will clear notifications after I view them. However, facebook has about 7-8 notifications that are "stuck." A few say multiple updates and others say uploaded new pictures. I have viewed each of the notifications many times at this point and they still will not clear. Does anyone know how to clear the Updates section on the Updates and Events? I do have the facebook app installed and I am willing to remove it to make this go away.

Anyway, does anyone know if PPC would get the updates as well, since they use VZW's network? I'm guessing no, they would have to set up their own distribution, but don't really know. Aug 17, 2010I'm having an issue with my Droid. I unrooted my phone from 2.2 because I ran tests on it and found that it is not running as well as it should be. I went to 2.1 and then found out that it was still rooted so my brother and I unrooted again down to stock 2.0.1. Now my phone will not receive the OTA so I can upgrade to stock 2.1. Does anyone know why it won't receive the update?

Sep 27, 2010So I was going to update to Froyo manually when I noticed that my 'check for system updates' is disabled in the about phone menu. I can only think of two reasons:
1. I'm rooted (doesn't seem likely)
2. I'm roaming but still on 3g (This would be annoying as I have to drive 20 miles to verizon towers)Any ideas? On a separate note maybe this is an advantage.I'm new to the Android platform and have heard of issues upgrading to 2.2. Maybe I should just wait until Moto puts out the patch?

Jul 24, 2010How do you stop the phone from checking for and applying OTA updates? I had rooted mine, and I pulled it out of my pocket tonight to find that it had updated itself. I haven't check what effect that has had on my root yet, but I expect that it will cause problems now or in the future.
On the EVO, there's a menu option to stop the update checker, but I didn't see that on the X.
Motorola Droid :: Get Phone Back To Receive Updates Without Wiping All My Text?
Feb 9, 2010After reading that 2.1 is "supposed" to drop this week, I have a rooted droid running Beast 7.4 which has the OTA disabled. Is there a way to get the phone back to being able to receive the update without wiping all my text/e-mail/call logs/pics? I'm guessing it would require moving to a different ROM or just back to the original 2.0.1 update...but I'm not clear how to do it. If anyone can post a link or explain it in non-Linux lingo, I would greatly appreciate it! I just don't want to have to revert back to the original 2.0.1 and lose everything...don't care about the apps because I can just re-install those.

Sep 11, 2010I noticed that facebook notifications don't work at all anymore. But since the most recent update my phone has rebooted at least 2 times a day. Most recently during a phone call? I got this phone as a refurb from Verizon after the OTA bricked my last one. Does this warrant a replacement or is it a software bug I have to track down? Nov 25, 2010I just bought my Droid X a couple of weeks ago (2.2 and Rooted). It wanted to do some auto app updates and I told it to do them all not sure if it was before or after that that I noticed a red light by the ear "piece/speaker" and the phone was on and a battery level warning came on which I thought was premature. I plugged in the power cord the light went to green and I looked over a few minutes later and it was dead. I could be a little off on what happened when but that's what happened.
It wont power on now and I've tried holding a few different buttons while powering on and still nothing. I did check the settings the other day and it was successfully backing itself up not sure how to use that backup though. I just looked over after typing this post and the Motorola "M" was on the screen but I couldn't get it to do anything so I pulled the battery and tried again to boot it and nothing.
HTC Eris :: Which Rom Should I Use If I Want OTA Updates?
Apr 6, 2010Ok well after doing several hours of researching i still have a few questions on rooting my droid eris. Of course i'm on the stock 1.5 and have not updated to 2.1 via the leak ware available. Which rom should i use if i want OTA updates? (for when 2.1 comes out) but i also want to use wireless tether and apps2sd? I would like to keep the stock senseui and everything else intact the way it is now. I have it setup nicely i'm just running out of space with the installed apps. I would also like to use platinum backup to backup my contacts, settings, apps etc whenever updates do come out. I don't want to be bothered with flashing new roms all the time. I'd rather just gain the extra features as painlessly as possible. But i'd like to make a backup for future updates so i don't have to go through the hassle of setting up the phone each time they decide to send over a big OTA update that wipes your data.

Any thoughts? I'd like to update to 2.2 and then find a reliable "full" root procedure for 2.2.
