does it matter if it is enabled or not. Does affect any system updates from verizon. right now i don't have it enabled.i only enable it when i use the app pdanet to tether my phone and computer.is it good to keep disable it
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I was going to update to Froyo manually when I noticed that my 'check for system updates' is disabled in the about phone menu. I can only think of two reasons:
1. I'm rooted (doesn't seem likely)
2. I'm roaming but still on 3g (This would be annoying as I have to drive 20 miles to verizon towers)Any ideas? On a separate note maybe this is an advantage.I'm new to the Android platform and have heard of issues upgrading to 2.2. Maybe I should just wait until Moto puts out the patch?
I would like to run multiple instances of same application for dev purpose. How does app define it's name in the system, through which of the files is that configured.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIf this has been discussed before, please point me to the thread.I couldn't find anything (but wasn't sure what to search under either).I have a few FB contacts that are duplicated over 40 times.These are not people that I have on my contact list for my phone (would never intend to call them).So, they don't show up on my 'people' list. But for instance, when I'm going to send a text and type in 'Brian' to bring up the Brian I have in my contacts, it will pull up a Brian I am friends with in FB and his name/number comes up a million times!I went into his FB account on my phone, and where it shows their e-mail and phone number, it showed FB profile well over 40 times. I don't have my phone set to sync FB contacts either just gmail (as I didn't want all my FB friends showing up in my people).This only happens for a few FB contacts but it sure makes it impossible to find the person I need. Anyone else with this problem?How do I fix it? The only way I've found so far is to 'unfriend' them in FB so they don't appear.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy phone has suddenly appeared with the wrong time and date. Also, on my call log, it has "Tomorrow" as opposed to today or yesterday. Texts messages are no longer in order. What in the world has happened to the phone? I don't understand it at all.
*It has been like this for about a day and a 1/2 now.
The Eris Bluetooth connects, then may disconnect and then connect to my car multiple times.

Does anyone know how to change the amount of times their phone rings before the caller is sent to voicemail? When I call my phone from another phone it only rings four to five times before it goes to voicemail. However, when I call my wife's eris it rings six to seven times before sending to voicemail.My phone is on v3 leak and my wifes is a stock 1.5.This is really frustrating because it already takes at least two rings from the other end before my phone even acknowledges someone is calling...and yes i've changed my slot cycle down to zero...so by the time it starts ringing the ringtone only lasts about five to ten secs.not enough time at all to even try to answer.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an unrooted Evo and I'm really low on internal space and don't want to root...if I could delete the system update files like "com.htc 2.1-update 1" and "Android System 2.1-update1", that would help to free up about 23mb of space...can I uninstall them or would that revert the system to the pre-updated state?

When I click on any of the top 3 update options (Firmware, Profile, or PRL) the option turns green while my finger is on it but doesn't respond. This happened in the weeks before the 2.1 update also, but I just stuck it out, and after the 2.1 update it worked again - until recently. Now no updates can be requested. No root. Any ideas?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a galaxy samsung s3 and rooted it to download custom roms, etc. Which is all new to me fyi. Anyway, haven't decided on a rom yet, so still got the stock one going. When i get a notice to download a system update, and try to do it, it reboots to twrp recovery that i installed. Not sure what to do at this point or should i just not worry about the updates. Also, my phone doesn't recognize a usb connection when i hook it to my computer.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis morning when I turned on my Eris, I received a notice that I had 2 new updates! I was excited because I thought it might be Android 2.1. Hearing that updates can take a lot of battery power, I decided to use Advanced Task Killer to kill all unnecessary tasks before installing the updates. I opened ATK, killed the selected tasks, and boom!, the updates disappeared! I manually checked for updates under Settings, but it says my phone is up to date. I called Verizon and they said if Settings doesn't show any updates, they must have installed automatically. I don't buy that. Updates are supposed to take several minutes and I checked Settings right after the update notification disappeared. So unless they installed in a matter of seconds, something is wrong.

Does anyone know how Swype updates its dictionary? I know it pulls words from my contacts list, but does it get them from any other source? There are certain words that constantly show up in Swype, even though I have deleted them countless times. "i'd" is a big one. I would never type the word "I" and leave it uncapitalized, and, yet, it somehow keeps reappearing in the dictionary. Certain letter combinations like "nt," "ou," and others continue to show up, even after I've deleted them. That's what has me thinking it's pulling words from something else on the phone. Is there any way to make it stop doing that?

After that, the notificaton area said I have four updates waiting.I think I selected the "My Tracks" app for update, but when I did, it told me to make sure I had at least 40% battery charge, the phone would be unusable during the update, etc., and it proceeded to install the OTA update to build 1.17.605.1.That's fine, but now the phone doesn't show any apps with available updates.Will these apps automatically notify me again that updates are available? Do all apps routinely check?

Under the People 'app,' there is an updates and events tab. I am a bit OCD, and will clear notifications after I view them. However, facebook has about 7-8 notifications that are "stuck." A few say multiple updates and others say uploaded new pictures. I have viewed each of the notifications many times at this point and they still will not clear. Does anyone know how to clear the Updates section on the Updates and Events? I do have the facebook app installed and I am willing to remove it to make this go away.

Anyway, does anyone know if PPC would get the updates as well, since they use VZW's network? I'm guessing no, they would have to set up their own distribution, but don't really know. If not, the only hope I have is for it to be rooted and flash the ROM (or whatever), right? So I should add to the bounty, right?

I am getting constant updates from my gmail saying I have a new email, when my inbox is the same. Do I need to reflash? I'm using one of the original patched versions.
