HTC Desire : Update Notification But No Updates
May 19, 2010I've been using my Desire with no issues for about 6 weeks and update notifications have worked perfectly, but this week I've recieved 3 different 'updates available' notifications, but clicking on them takes me to the list of installed apps where no updates are highlighted.
Searching the forums identifies this as having been a problem with other phones models (HTC and Motorola) after firmware updates, but I don't think that can be the issue here. Anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions as to cause or fix?

Feb 25, 2010When I first got my Eris I think I used to get App update notifications. Lately I don't get them, the only way to check for app updates is to go to the market.

Feb 24, 2010This morning when I turned on my Eris, I received a notice that I had 2 new updates! I was excited because I thought it might be Android 2.1. Hearing that updates can take a lot of battery power, I decided to use Advanced Task Killer to kill all unnecessary tasks before installing the updates. I opened ATK, killed the selected tasks, and boom!, the updates disappeared! I manually checked for updates under Settings, but it says my phone is up to date. I called Verizon and they said if Settings doesn't show any updates, they must have installed automatically. I don't buy that. Updates are supposed to take several minutes and I checked Settings right after the update notification disappeared. So unless they installed in a matter of seconds, something is wrong.

Nov 8, 2010Does anyone know how Swype updates its dictionary? I know it pulls words from my contacts list, but does it get them from any other source? There are certain words that constantly show up in Swype, even though I have deleted them countless times. "i'd" is a big one. I would never type the word "I" and leave it uncapitalized, and, yet, it somehow keeps reappearing in the dictionary. Certain letter combinations like "nt," "ou," and others continue to show up, even after I've deleted them. That's what has me thinking it's pulling words from something else on the phone. Is there any way to make it stop doing that?

After that, the notificaton area said I have four updates waiting.I think I selected the "My Tracks" app for update, but when I did, it told me to make sure I had at least 40% battery charge, the phone would be unusable during the update, etc., and it proceeded to install the OTA update to build 1.17.605.1.That's fine, but now the phone doesn't show any apps with available updates.Will these apps automatically notify me again that updates are available? Dec 12, 2009I have searched google and the forum here. I have also looked on the phone, but it is possible I am missing the setting I am looking for. Under the People 'app,' there is an updates and events tab. I am a bit OCD, and will clear notifications after I view them. However, facebook has about 7-8 notifications that are "stuck." A few say multiple updates and others say uploaded new pictures. I have viewed each of the notifications many times at this point and they still will not clear. Does anyone know how to clear the Updates section on the Updates and Events? I do have the facebook app installed and I am willing to remove it to make this go away.

Jun 4, 2010Is there any way to detect whether the Notification Windows is being shown? I have a service that updates an ongoing notification, complete with a progress bar and text? Is there a way to know if the notifiication screen is actually being shown, so I can adjust how often I wouldn't be so concerned if not for the fact that the HTC Incredible will reboot after it receives several hundred or so updates. Based on a controlled experiment with a beta tester, the service could continue for 24 hours if it did not update progress, but dies after several hundred updates. So I am desperate to reduce the notifications, if that's what works, and one of the ways I could do that is by not updating as much or at all if that screen isn't being shown.

Sep 14, 2010ok so i rooted my droid a whlie ago to 2.2 but now i'm getting 2.2 froyo update. So i decided well might as well get the official one right? so i tried to install it but then it goes to the rooted reboot screen and i just press reboot now. couple days later i get the update in the notification bar again.

Mar 20, 2010Turned on my phone this morning and besides getting emails I had an update notification. I used the advanced task killer before I actually clicked on anything and the update disappeared on me. I know, shouldnt have done that, just force of habbit when I first turn on the phone everyday. Anyhow, I re-booted my phone thinking it might come back and it didnt. I then checked for system updates on the phone and it said there werent any.
