How do you stop the phone from checking for and applying OTA updates? I had rooted mine, and I pulled it out of my pocket tonight to find that it had updated itself. I haven't check what effect that has had on my root yet, but I expect that it will cause problems now or in the future.
On the EVO, there's a menu option to stop the update checker, but I didn't see that on the X.

waiting for TMobile to reissue their OTA update to 1.21.110.4 so wanted to install it myself. Am desperate to install it as have read in couple of places on XDA forums that it increases the media volume which is a big issue on my device (yes, yes I know some of you get blown away by yours but trust me I'm not deaf or stupid, it's just ridiculously quiet). Anyway I have managed to download a zip of the update but am confused as to what to do next.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've been reading a lot of people getting errors while trying to check for samsung updates on the Captivate. I experienced this as well. I narrowed the problem to various Task Manager apps killing the "Device Management" task that is native to the captivate and launches after each reboot. When this task is killed, you will receive the "DM Initialization Error. Check your network or Sim Card" message every time you try to check for an update. Solution: Reboot and exclude the Device Management process from any of your task killers.

So I have everything set up to automatically use my Google Voice number now, and started getting SMS texts in both my messaging inbox and in GV. I figured out I needed to turn off the SMS forwarding in GV, but it turns out I like using the default messaging app more than the one in GV.
Is there a way to make the GV app stop checking for SMS messages but still download my voicemail? I don't want to make it stop checking all together but I'd like to use the other app for SMS's.
I'm having an issue with my Droid. I unrooted my phone from 2.2 because I ran tests on it and found that it is not running as well as it should be. I went to 2.1 and then found out that it was still rooted so my brother and I unrooted again down to stock 2.0.1. Now my phone will not receive the OTA so I can upgrade to stock 2.1. Does anyone know why it won't receive the update?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I was going to update to Froyo manually when I noticed that my 'check for system updates' is disabled in the about phone menu. I can only think of two reasons:
1. I'm rooted (doesn't seem likely)
2. I'm roaming but still on 3g (This would be annoying as I have to drive 20 miles to verizon towers)Any ideas? On a separate note maybe this is an advantage.I'm new to the Android platform and have heard of issues upgrading to 2.2. Maybe I should just wait until Moto puts out the patch?
I tried installing the Phantom Skinz I received yesterday and I couldn't for the life of me get the smaller pieces for the sides of the phone (only tried the sides on the top half of the phone) to stick. They would just slide right off and would not adhere to the phone. It was especially bad around the corners. I have installed many of these (multiple phones, macbook, ipods, etc...) and I have never had this much trouble installing one. Any suggestions from you guys who have installed one of these on the Droid? What should I mix the water with to get the best stick? I tried a drop of dish soap and that obviously didn't work. I did get the one on the screen fine (however there are some bubbles that still haven't went away after 24 hours !)
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter reading that 2.1 is "supposed" to drop this week, I have a rooted droid running Beast 7.4 which has the OTA disabled. Is there a way to get the phone back to being able to receive the update without wiping all my text/e-mail/call logs/pics? I'm guessing it would require moving to a different ROM or just back to the original 2.0.1 update...but I'm not clear how to do it. If anyone can post a link or explain it in non-Linux lingo, I would greatly appreciate it! I just don't want to have to revert back to the original 2.0.1 and lose everything...don't care about the apps because I can just re-install those.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI noticed that facebook notifications don't work at all anymore. But since the most recent update my phone has rebooted at least 2 times a day. Most recently during a phone call? I got this phone as a refurb from Verizon after the OTA bricked my last one. Does this warrant a replacement or is it a software bug I have to track down? I honestly don't want to go through the exchange process again.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just bought my Droid X a couple of weeks ago (2.2 and Rooted). It wanted to do some auto app updates and I told it to do them all not sure if it was before or after that that I noticed a red light by the ear "piece/speaker" and the phone was on and a battery level warning came on which I thought was premature. I plugged in the power cord the light went to green and I looked over a few minutes later and it was dead. I could be a little off on what happened when but that's what happened.
It wont power on now and I've tried holding a few different buttons while powering on and still nothing. I did check the settings the other day and it was successfully backing itself up not sure how to use that backup though. I just looked over after typing this post and the Motorola "M" was on the screen but I couldn't get it to do anything so I pulled the battery and tried again to boot it and nothing.
I plan to get a Droid X here sometime in the coming month, and I'm terribly excited about it. One thing I'd really like to be able to do is check my university email on my phone, without having to go through a browser. Is it possible that I'll be able to do so? When I go to log in to the website where I check my email, it says "Microsoft Exchange" at the top. I've heard others mention "exchange" email accounts. Is this what it's referring to? Will I be able to check my universal inbox and get my school email?

I have tried several times, but when I do Settings/About Phone/System Update, it always says: "Check for update was not available at this time. Try again later." I interpret this to mean that the update facility is down or busy, but it could also be interpreted to mean that there is no update available because I have the latest. What does it actually mean? By the way, my firmware version is listed as "2.1 update1" - is that the latest?
View 3 Replies View RelatedAbout two hours ago, I noticed my Droid was hot in its case. I took it out and noticed that it was constantly rebooting on about a two minute cycle. Tried to boot it up in safe mode (successfully) but it still rebooted. I managed to keep it running long enough to uninstall an app I had loaded today, but still no luck. Constant reboot. Any help before I call VZW support?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've had the Moto Droid for three days now and it reboots itself or freezes frequently. It does this at least 10 times a day.
First thought: apps conflicting, right? But this was happening with no apps on it at all. It happens in the music player, home screen, and just about anywhere. There is no pattern to it.
My final assumption is that this is a problem with Android 2.0 and patches and updates will be coming to minimize these freeze ups and reboots, but wanted to pop in an ask the community if they've been seeing the same thing, or if they have any tips/tricks to stop these.
I have a rooted phone so I don't want any ota updates. How can i stop or ignore them automatically. Prevent the fat finger.
I did a search for 'stop ota updates' and didn't see anything.
I installed SetCPU and found it very confusing. I went into the market and uninstalled/refunded it. I got a message saying uninstall failed but it is no longer showing in my list of installed apps. My phone is very choppy/leggy now. Is there a way of checking my current CPU speed? I am wondering if when I uninstalled the app my CPU remained at my minimum setting.

The "FVE" said it was something I downloaded from the market and basically made me reset. It really is not a big deal to do a reset since all the contacts can get synced to your google account. I just don't want to have to keep doing this fix.

I trying to help a friend with her email on her droid she currently has a (smtp) email set up on her phone. The problem is all old emails are continuously coming back to the device! she has deleted them both from the phone also from a regular pc and they come back still....I looked into the app called (k9) however it doesn't look like it supports smtp only Imap and pop3.

I have apps Audio Manager and Screen Lock...I'm not sure if either of those could be a problem. I also use beautiful widget toggles. I have looked at the settings and that doesn't seem to be the problem.

Orange have a Contacts Backup app that doesn't work but constantly and irritatingly tells you it's failed to connect. I don't want it or use it and I've uninstalled the updates so instead of trying to backup my contacts to Orange (which I never asked for) it comes up in "update available" lists and intrudes on my taskbar with the "1 update available" message.
Is there any way to stop it trying to update?
