I just updated to 2.1, and I've tried installing Swype (beta)(HVGA) and I have it checked off to use in the keyboard settings menu, but the default keyboard still comes up. Any ideas?

I have installed Swype beta and Shapewriter. After installing, form the home screen I press menu, settings, language & keyboard and click either swype or shape-writer.However, when I use an application like G mail, or the web browser, the droid default keyboard is displayed rather the swype or shape-writer,Any suggestions on where I need to adjust settings so that the default keyboard is either swype or shape-writer?I have used swype in the past and it worked great, unitil the beta expired. I just downloaded the new beta from the swype.com site. Just can't make it the default though.

I'm trying to update my drivers, but when I choose my usb driver folder, it says it cannot find the drivers to be installed. What is it I'm missing? I have the SDK folder on my computer. Does it need to be installed onto my phone's sdcard?

View 2 Replies View RelatedFrom what information I can gather from the web, android browser shortcuts are comprised of MENU + X combinations. Is there an equivalent for the Eris? I do not see how this works given the lack of a real keyboard. To open the keyboard take a separate action and when holding MENU to then click the appropriate letter, all you get is the menu.

Basically, I think the HTC keyboard is a bit too cluttered, and would prefer to use the default android keyboard (introduced in 2.1 I think, includes a voice entry button to the left of spacebar).
My Cousin Albert lives with his parents. He has a cell phone and his parents have a normal phone.I put them in the same contact which maybe I shouldn't have but anyway, my cousin's cell phone is rarely on. However, in the contact list, his cell # is the default, so when I press the contact it calls him.I want to change it to my Aunt and Uncle's home tel #. How can I do that?And maybe I should make my cousin a different topic, but I have this problem with other contacts, just the default being their cell (or home) number,when I want it to be their home (or cell) number.
View 1 Replies View RelatedO.K. I've seen in different themes or roms that the backgrounds are different than stock. Evil eris the robot on the dialer screen was blue. I've seen em pink. Seen em with checkerboard pattern across his midsection. Never seen a completely custom without the robot tho. My question is how do you change that screen and is the robot not removable? Can I just put some random picture that I think is cool at the time? Oh and how do I change the color of the call button and battery icon, if theres a way without installing other apps to do it?

I can select a ringtone from the list and listen to it, but when a call comes in, I get 2 Step, the first ringtone in the list. I've rebooted and removed the battery, but neither of these fixed the problem. I called Verizon tech support and was told to enter Settings from Apps, which I did and it actually worked...once. Now, it's failing solid.

Well...she spelled my name wrong and it seems like i cannot delete the default account or switch to my previous existing account.
I wanted to uninstall gmail and reinstall but this app is not available. is this a possible solution?

Verbage:
Keyboard Manager allows you to customize what keyboard (input method) appear on input based on your phone orientation.
It displays the keyboards you have enabled on your android device, and let you select one per orientation (landscape/portrait).
As your phone switch orientation, the app automatically switch the keyboard.
Requirements:
- Rooted android device (app was tested on Samsung captivate 2.1)
- Root Explorer app, or similar app that allows you to edit the permissions of a file.
To install:
1- Download the app (KeyboardManager.apk) on your device sdcard.
2- Using Root Explorer, move the apk file to /system/app
3- Using Root Explorer, edit the file permissions like below:
-- User: 'Read/Write' checked
--Group: 'Read' checked
--Others: 'Read' checked
4- Exit Root Explorer
The app should be visible in your launcher as 'Keyboard Manager'

- Added option to disable notification icon

Bugs:
-On certain applications (i.e: Messaging on Samsung Captivate), the input window occasionally freeze on orientation switch. Exiting the app, and resuming should fix it.

A friend of mine has the HTC Incredible and asked me, since I have the Eris and they are pretty similar, how to change the default action in Favorite people. When he set up his wife as a favorite, he accidentally chose to "send text" as the default action. He wants to change it to dial her cell number. I read the instructions for my Eris on how to do this.It tells me "To change the default communication method for a favorite contact, press and hold the contact, and then tap Change default action."When I do this, I do not get an option to change default action. Same for him.

View 1 Replies View RelatedBefore the OTA I was able to select which apllication was used when the large "phone" button was pushed on the homepage. I think what used to happen was that when you downloaded a new phone dialer and then pressed the phone button the first time you were given an option as to what app you want to use for this action. Once you chose an app it was always activated when you pressed the phone button. I don't see this happening anymore.
