HTC Desire :: Remove Useless Apps?
Jul 20, 2010
Would it be true to say that I can merely root my Desire to remove useless HTC apps and just continue booting the ROM that is originally on my Desire (Sense + Eclair 2.1)? The reason why I ask this is because most of the new Froyo ROMS have some sort of functionality lost one way or another. If I keep my original ROM this would mean everything works as it used to before I rooted right? If so, can I add the functionality of App2SD+ onto my stock ROM? (Without going up unofficial Froyo's)

Is the HTC Desire Notes Widget useless? You can write notes fairly easily - but the only way to view, eg the last note, is to delete the top one until you get down to the last. Is there some way to flick through these notes easily? Otherwise i'll just go back to ak notepad (which is good, but you can't draw a note).

Had the Desire for a week and it is driving me mad. I liked listening to BBC radio 2 walking to work - Chris Evans made me laugh and woke me up gently but since the Desire, the reception is intolerable and I don't bother (prev. Sony K800i was great). Have read and searched all I can on tinternet and although others have similar, I have yet to see a fix - I have today emailed HTC but wonder if anyone has found an answer? I have seen mention of thinner headset cables are better (HTC supply is thick) - anyone found a replacement headset that improves this please - you truly would make my week. I am still in the return period but doubt that would work, so would rather find a fix. Other bits 'n bobs I have found which may help you and balance my question are 1. don't use Advanced task killer to close the radio - it doesn't shut it down properly and you can't reuse the radio - if you get this, turn the phone off fully and then it shall work. 2. I like the 3G watchdog app to stop me going over my usage - give it a go 3. Shopsavvy is cool and works really well to scan a barcode and find better prices - Pkt Auctions Ebay app in contrast has never worked for me and seems useless in the wake of Shopsavvy 4. You may well need a new in car handsfree kit - A2DP requirement I think it is - my 2 old ones weren't up to it but a new Parrot kit for 50 does the job and can call from speech etc. 5. The best surprise was the navigation tool - basically satnav which works better than my dedicated satnav - the lady's voice is a little annoying but she gives far better detailed descriptions of the next turn and finds satellites quicker then my old and now redundant machine - give it a go! Anyway, I'll shut up as no doubt you are dying to tell me which headset does make my Desire FM work.

Ok so we have all these great apps just in case our Droid is stolen right!? Lookout, wavesecure etc. But being a Android user myself (and not ******ed) If I stole a droid what is stopping me from booting to the recovery console and wiping the phone. Then viola! the apps are useless correct? Or am I missing something here?

Aside from rooting your phone, is there any way to remove the facebook, twitter or some other stock apps? Don't use either services and would rather have the space for something else and clean up my apps list a bit. I'm running unbranded 2.2

I was frantically trying to remove a system installed app yesterday, but google wasnt much help. I found many threads on various forums, all slightly different and all assuming you have a certain level of knowledge about certain things. There was no easy, step by step guide. So I decided to post my guide up here for anyone who like me, wants to uninstall system apps but hasn't the foggiest. This is for if you have the ROM already installed and don't want to do a wipe/re-install. for ROMs you are about to install, just open the zip, browse to systemapp and delete the .apk prior to installation.Enjoy your bloatware free ROM. It goes without saying that you shouldn't remove anything you don't recognise and that if you do, you risk doing harm to your phone. I can take no responsibility for damage caused.

Is there a way to remove apps from My Android Apps list, on Android Market / Google Play? I have a few hundred in my list and a few dozen of those are apps I plan to never install again. I'd like to remove them from my list in the Market/Play. I've already uninstalled them from my phone.

Is there any way to remove pre-installed programs?
For example, the following programs were pre-installed:
Amazon MP3
Footprints
Teeter
And maybe some others.
I've just tried:
Settings | Applications | Manage Apps
And noticed there's not always an option to Uninstall on these and some others.
Is it possible to remove, delete, uninstall, or get them off the device?
Is there any way to remove the pre-installed Sprint programs?
Sprint TV
Sprint-Nextel
NFL
Nascar
Are there some "core apps" or "core programs" that can't be removed?
A brief search on this matter on related threads seems to indicate only on "rooted" phones.

I must say that I was a bit dissapointed today, when I got my I7500 android device, and wanted to imediatley check for upgrades, and sync with computer. The NPS CD in the box was aged, so I uppgraded from Samsung.com (Version 1.3.0 IH4). So I have 2 issues with this software
1) It does not install succesfully on my Windows 7 64-bit machine 2) It installs on my windows 7 32-bit, but it does not "connect" with the i7500. I can see that the two storage devices, and it is impossible to "connect" the phone. Does anyone know of samsungs plans to release a suite for Win7, and also for plans and timelines for 1.6 or 2.0 firmware upgrade from samsung. Or would I be better off to just run this device in Dev mode? My I7500 has 1.5 running I7500XXII8.

I've seen talk of some of the more "useless" apps for the iphone lately(Champagne bottles, bottle caps, farts, etc), and thought may be a thread on them here would be interesting, so here goes. Please list here any apps that you may have that are basically useless functionality-wise, but are gag apps, funny, strange, or even just plain stupid. Please note they have to be compatible with the Moto Droid(which is why this thread is in this subforum).
On my Droid are:
FartDroid Champagne Dildroid Spark Beavis and Butthead Soundboard Sound Grenade Tricorder

A new line of apps has appeared that seem to offer quick access to all sorts of things such as Amazon, banks etc. The apps do nothing more than pass you on to the target organisation's website. The apps are chargeable. Does anybody have any further info?

I was just wondering, can the Gmail and Messages stock applications be removed? I tried to do just that, but then a warning pops up saying "it can't be done". And I've tried the stock uninstaller and third party ones. And if it can be done what happens then? Any complications like... i dunno, deleting Gmail connection to my phone, or SMS network settings? I don't want either of that obviously. I use the stock Mail application for all my email accounts, so Gmail is plain redundant, and i also use Handcent SMS third party app for my SMS, which makes the messages stock app also redundant. I don't mind about the bit of space they take, but it's just annoying when i receive an email from Gmail, both apps activate and i get two notifications. And same thing happens with SMS too.

Is it possible to remove an application programatically? If so, shall I look at the package manager for that or is there an example some place? When a package is installed, I believe there is a broadcast message to the system saying that. Is it possible to capture that broadcast message?
