I just got a new EVO 4G. I've been an Apple guy for the last 4 years (iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4) and I will say so far I'm liking the switch over. Most people I have in my address bok I have multiple contact numbers for them. For example, Mobile, Work, Home
When I click on there contact name it shows up to call each number but then to also message each number. I was wondering if I can manually remove the Work and Home numbers as being "messagable". So only the Mobile number will have the message button.

Is there a way to remove apps from My Android Apps list, on Android Market / Google Play? I have a few hundred in my list and a few dozen of those are apps I plan to never install again. I'd like to remove them from my list in the Market/Play. I've already uninstalled them from my phone.

I have added a couple of soft keys through navigation_bar.xml in SystemUI.apk. The soft keys show great, but are also showing on the lockscreen, when the others "disappear".
The added ones are Menu and Search, the order is Home, Menu, Recent Apps, Back, Search. This is to be the same as my desire hard keys. I know, no point in it, but have just got used to the soft keys so much!
Anyway, here is my coding, I have removed the android:visibilty="invisble" attribute to no ill effects...I have also added the relevant strings and ids in their respective places..
Code:
<FrameLayout android:id="@id/rot0" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent">
<LinearLayout android:orientation="horizontal" android:id="@id/nav_buttons" android:clipChildren="false" [code]...
Could it be to do with the ID's? (I know that when I made the center clock, I added the "@id/clock" and it made the clock "disappear" on the lockscreen, where taking it out the clock stayed in the status bar!)...

Alright all of a sudden last night my installed apps have all disappeared under the downloads section of my android market. It only showed google maps. When I installed a new app it showed up right below google maps but still no sign of my missing apps. What's wrong? Is android market twitchy again? A reboot of the phone doesn't.

I need some trendy apps/games to show off my Hero. I had my work xmas lunch yesterday and at the end someone whipped out their iphone and everyone started crowding round . I'm not necessary looking for anything sophisticated or lasting, I just want people to go 'hey that's pretty cool' when I show them my Hero. All I've got at the moment is google skymap and tricorder, both of which are a bit too nerdy if you know what I mean.

I have updated all my apps earlier today and ever since there has been 6 or 7 apps that are constantly showing the status of installing in the android market. I have had to charge the battery twice today because of this. Is there anyway that I can stop these installs? I am new to android so please be gentle. I have a samsung galaxy s and so far have tried uninstalling the apps it says are installing, clearing the cache, force closing the market, switching phone off and also performing a battery pull.

Did the update to 2.2 with no problems (2 phones). Notice now that under Settings / Applications / Manage Applications /Running there's a lot more info than before.
In the list of 'running apps' it shows things like Flickr, Facebook, Footprints all with the HTC Corporation underneath them. I'm assuming this is part of HTC Sense and they can not be 'turned off' since I tried to kill them (don't use Flickr nor Footprints) but see they come back on by themselves.
Under the Apps screen there's no icon for Flickr but there is one for Footprints. But, it doesn't have anything under settings that says "Don't start" or similar.
I'm just trying to make sure that the update didn't install or modify settings on some of the services/apps I turned off when I got the phone as part of my power management tweaks. It appears that some of these have indeed been reset (My Sprints, for example, completely reset to have all notifications, news, updates etc. turned on when I had turned them off previously).
So, i'm assuming that the HTC related items can not be 'turned off' unless anyone knows a way to do it.
And, just to make you aware, some of your settings most likely have been reset if you've done the update to 2.2 which will affect your battery life.

Is it possible to remove an application programatically? If so, shall I look at the package manager for that or is there an example some place? When a package is installed, I believe there is a broadcast message to the system saying that. Is it possible to capture that broadcast message?

so looks like a problem with 2.2 is that some apps, maybe protected ones, arnt showing up in the market since update. am sure this happened when the desire came out and htc had to do an update to sort it out.does this mean we can expect to be getting an update soon or is it something they can sort out without an update.example of some that no longer show. tapatalk and close everything 2.

My Background. Currently I am a .NET Developer working mainly with databases. Taking an interest in Android development by creating my first app. To understand it all, I am just trying to create a data collection application.
For example, collecting user information. My main activity will show a list of users and a button to add a new user. So, I created a new activity for the add a new user form.
I am using eclipse, with the normal AVD (ARM (armeabi-v7a)). I can successfully take the user to the add new form, no real issues with that. However, when I run the app in the AVD, I see my main activity (or the actual app) and the add new user activity as an app.
Is there some way to define the main activity for the app?

I have been using nova launcher for some days now, and love it. But, for some odd reason not all my apps are showing up. I just tried finding Google calender and is not in the app section. I go to Google playstor, find it there and it's showing as installed and I can open it, but I can't find the darn thing on my tablet. I have also had this with a couple of other apps.

Is there any way to remove pre-installed programs?
For example, the following programs were pre-installed:
Amazon MP3
Footprints
Teeter
And maybe some others.
I've just tried:
Settings | Applications | Manage Apps
And noticed there's not always an option to Uninstall on these and some others.
Is it possible to remove, delete, uninstall, or get them off the device?
Is there any way to remove the pre-installed Sprint programs?
Sprint TV
Sprint-Nextel
NFL
Nascar
Are there some "core apps" or "core programs" that can't be removed?
A brief search on this matter on related threads seems to indicate only on "rooted" phones.

How do I completely remove rather than rename unwanted apps? Specifically, what commands have to be entered into the shell? And where can I find a listing of the apps in rom? I am rooted and have some knowledge of adb and the android sdk. here are just a number of the apps I never will use, so I would prefer to free up memory.
