View 2 RepliesI was just wondering, can the Gmail and Messages stock applications be removed? I tried to do just that, but then a warning pops up saying "it can't be done". And I've tried the stock uninstaller and third party ones. And if it can be done what happens then? Any complications like... i dunno, deleting Gmail connection to my phone, or SMS network settings? I don't want either of that obviously. I use the stock Mail application for all my email accounts, so Gmail is plain redundant, and i also use Handcent SMS third party app for my SMS, which makes the messages stock app also redundant. I don't mind about the bit of space they take, but it's just annoying when i receive an email from Gmail, both apps activate and i get two notifications. And same thing happens with SMS too.

I've read several places that you need to root in order to remove stock apps. However, when I was browsing through Astro tonight, I found the apps folder on the Evo, and when pulling up the apk of them with the App Manager, the uninstall button was available. I didn't click on it, because I wasn't sure if there would be any ramifications. Will I just get an error that says, I can't unistall it? Has anyone tried this?

View 6 Replies View RelatedThis isn't the first time someone has posted a stock app removal guide and probably wont be the last but lately I've seen a lot of threads on the topic so decided to put together a guide of apps that i have removed that has greatly helped out my battery life. For all intensive purposes this is the 'easiest' free way to get rid of the bloat, it does however require root access. You can always just buy root explorer from the market and delete them with it. I tried to make this guide as nob friendly as possible.

View 3 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know how to remove the stock apps using root explorer? I search for the app and delete the .apk but the app stays in my app drawer after reboot. What am i doing wrong?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am new to this (less than a week) and I removed everything with root explorer (and it was so simple). You can get it from the market. I would recommend it if you are not used to linux commands. It was well worth the two dollars for me. The main thing to know is r/w (read/write) vs. r/o (read only). It is just as it says - r/o will only let you read files, while r/w will let you read AND write files (which includes move and delete).
View 25 Replies View RelatedThis thread is for speeding up android and improving battery life for Behold 2.I learned back in my days of ignorance(iphone days, lol) that by removing certain startup apps, services, and languages you can make the phone faster, and have better battery life, you can do same thing on android.Less services=more RAM,more CPU power, faster os,better battery. Updated Things you will need: Root and Root Explorer app or ADB,there is probably other apps you can use also.
With your Root Explorer or Astro navigate to /system/app folder, cut and paste any service or app that you don't need to a backup folder on sdcard. That way if you removed something that you might need later you can always put it back (NOTE:when you put back apps that you removed don't forget to set permissions, that's the reason i recommend using Root Explorer because other file managers to my knowledge wont let you set permissions on files)..................
I rooted and flashed with fresh 1.1 and it's got amazingly fast! My question is how do I remove the stock message app that sprint put on there? I have chompSMS as my txt app. I took a look at the pre-kitchen, but I use a mac so wanted to see if there are any other alternatives.

View 7 Replies View RelatedIs there any way to remove pre-installed programs?
For example, the following programs were pre-installed:
Amazon MP3
Footprints

And maybe some others.
I've just tried:
Settings | Applications | Manage Apps
And noticed there's not always an option to Uninstall on these and some others.
Is it possible to remove, delete, uninstall, or get them off the device?
Is there any way to remove the pre-installed Sprint programs?

View 7 Replies View RelatedOkay, I don't use sense anymore because I am totally loving launcher pro. However, I have noticed with fresh 2.3.3 that there is a lot of junk on there that I don't want or need, like "coin," "battery," "Dice," etc. Since these are system apps I can't remove them through the uninstall app. Does anyone have any idea of which of these sense apps are safe to remove through adb and which are not?
View 10 Replies View RelatedSo I've tried to do a search on this, but I've only been able to find either threads from 2009 way before the 2.1 update, or threads that did not completely answer my question.
How do I remove unnecessary Sprint/HTC apps? And also, what are the apps that are safe to remove?
Is there anyway to delete stock apps or at least hide the icons.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI know you can remove those bogus stock apps by rooting the hero but I have a slightly different question that I couldn't find in other threads. I am interested in rooting my hero just to remove the bloatware and then unroot the phone back to its original ROM. I am not a huge fan of tinkering with my electronics because it voids warranties, possibly bricks devices, and causes trouble with firmware updates, but it really ticks me off that sprint forces these apps on us and then makes them impossible to uninstall. Imagine getting a new PC and not being able to remove crap like wild tangent and the 20 free trials for programs you don't want or need. I know this isn't news to anyone here, but every time I see that Nascar app I get irritated. Seriously sprint? Nascar? Anyway, my questions are 1.) is root/unroot possible to remove bloat and return to original state 2.) has anyone had success uninstalling pieces of the bloat without rooting? I don't want to uninstall anything integral to the phone like the stock messages app, but Nascar has gots to go!
View 6 Replies View RelatedI rooted my phone for the first time yesterday. I have not yet flashed any ROM's, all I have done so far is remove some of the stock apps. I have lost my data connection a couple times today, usually a reboot will solve it, however it hasn't on one or two occasions. It seems to have started happening after changing my boot animation to something closer to the 1.5 boot animation. Is it possible that this new boot animation is causing my data connection problems.
