HTC Desire :: Wifi And Router
Apr 21, 2010I have a ZyXEL P-2602HW-D1A Router with the following settings:
- SSID hidden: No
- Channel: 6
- Security: Static 128-bit WEP
- Firmware: V3.40(AJQ.4) | 07/14/2008
These settings are defined my the company I work for. My router works fine with both desktop and labtop computers however my various mobile phones are the WIFI issue. I've tried to use both a Samsung i8910 and a HTC Desire where I experience that the phones can connect and many download data for a short while. But here after the connection is very slow, the lag time is up to many minutes or the phone and router just disconnects. But when I use my mobile phones with all other WIFI routers they work fine!

Jul 3, 2010After a short period of not using the phone, when I want to do something through using my wi fi connection, it takes ages to do anything, then when I go into the wi fi menu, the phone is always trying to authenticate with the router, so I have to switch wi fi off then on again and re connect to the router, then it works fine for a while until the next time I want to do something.

Aug 10, 2010I have a factory unlocked HTC Desire with the official 2.2 froyo firmware installed. When I turn on the wifi using the inbuilt HTC wifi widget, it takes about 10-15 seconds before the phone connects to my wifi router and the wifi icon is shown in the notification bar. I am using a Dlink dir-655 router. The settings that I have on the router are as follows:-
wireless mode: 802.11g only
encryption: wpa2 personal AES
mac filtering on (phone's mac address has been added to the list)
SSID is hidden
Other devices such as my laptop and nintendo wii connect to the wifi router within seconds.
HTC Desire : WiFi Error / Just Access To Main Router
May 25, 2010I've extended my wireless network to cover some weak areas in our house. The original wifi router is in my upstairs office, but gave poor coverage in some downstairs rooms, so I set up an "extended service set" wireless network with two access points, the original router upstairs and a Solwise homeplug WiFi extender extender downstairs (with a powerline link between the wireless router and the Solwise wifi extender), each using a different channel but the same WPA password.Every other wireless device in the house works happily between the two, but my Desire only seems to want to log on to the main router and defaults to mobile internet access in the 'difficult' areas. It seems to repeatedly try to get an address from the network downstairs, but reports 'unsuccessful' and keeps retrying.Any suggestions?

Apr 8, 2010I am planning on getting a Desire as it seems like a really nice phone. So I read the user manual on Legend to understand what it can do.
There are some questions:
I have all my contact and calendar info in Outlook 2003 and not in any online account. So I will only sync the phone with PC.
- can Outlook Contact fields like birthday and notes sync to People in the phone?
- user manual said I can search on Last Name, First Name in People. Can I search in the notes field?
- can I search for events in the Calendar? If so, can it search the whole database, or just up to X number of years in the past?
Android :: Led Function On The HTC Desire Z With Handcent
Nov 11, 2010I'm having a bit of a problem with the led function on the HTC Desire Z with Handcent. Coming from a HTC Hero, whenever I get a new message my LED and trackball would flash continually until I opened the text message. But now on the Z the trackpad and LED will flash for a while then stop. Is there a way of having it like the Hero?

May 13, 2010Does anyone know if I need a special app to be reminded of calls/texts that I've missed? I've had this feature on Motorola phones and on Samsung.
Ideally, if I miss a call and/or text, I would like to be reminded every n minutes either by vibrate or by ringtone (whichever's activated) until I acknowledge the missed call/text.
I don't know how people live without this. I've had a Nkia for 18 months and I got tired of having to look at the screen of the phone every time I finished taking a walk(could never feel vibrates while walking) taking a shower (they're not waterproof yet), etc.

Jan 8, 2010I've used blackberry's for a long time now and love one feature of it. The Standby mode that you can put the phone into and the only notification that will pull it out is the alarm clock. I've found a few alarms that will disable notifications, except calls. Well I don't want any notifications through the night. Only the alarm waking me up in the morning. Is anyone familiar with an existing app that puts the phone in a low energy sleep that only wakes it up for the alarm clock?

I came over from BlackBerry, where there is simply an option to "hide" my phone number on outgoing calls... but I can't seem to do this with my Eris. Someone once suggested that I prefix my contacts with *69... but that seems to prevent caller id from working properly, which just trades one issue for another.
If possible, I would prefer to be selective with who I do this with (it's okay for personal contacts to see my number... but it's not okay for business contacts to see my number).

One thing that bugs me though are the soft keys. The way it is set up mainly. Why is the home key between the back and the menu button? and why do i need a search button. I understand the droid is google based, but really? why does it need a button dedicated to it. rooted phone can you change the function of the softkeys so i could have the search key do something different when pressed.

Nov 3, 2010My wife has a Droid2 and when she uses the speaker phone function, things sound fine on her end, but for the caller on the other end, there is an unbearably loud noise of them speaking. For instance, when I call her and she has me on speaker, I can hear myself speaking super loud coming out of her phone. I can't even concentrate to get my sentence out. Has anyone else had this problem or heard of it? She is using a hard snap on case from Verizon as well, not sure if it could be the sound bouncing of that or something?
