just got my new phone all is fine but there is small problem and I don't know how to sort it out. On my old HTC HD Touch you were able to set it up the way that it will block my caller ID for anyone that is not in my contact list. I can't seem to find this option on a Desire. Is this something that has to be downloaded from market?

I know you can do it online, but that lapses in a few months, blacklist with Handcent just hides the message.
Is there a way in the OS to really block a caller/sms. I already have sent to VM but what I'd really like is a big go fuck yourself to be sent back to them.
Google Voice would work if it would actually control my other number and not just theirs.
Any ideas/suggests?
Does anyone know if there is an app available to selectively block my caller id being sent? I want the id to go to people I know (in my phone book) but to not be sent to anyone else.

I just signed up with Telus and got a HTC Desire and I'm trying to avoid paying for Caller ID. I've tried saving my contacts on my sim card, my phone, and my sd card, but whenever someone calls me it always shows as unknown.Is there a setting or trick to getting Caller ID for free? By the way, all my contacts were imported from my Gmail account where I have their full name, phone numbers, emails etc. Is this enough for my phone to recognize who is calling and show it?

My sister and her boyfriend each have their own mobiles, but they share the same land line. When someone calls me from that land line, caller ID always shows that it's my sister's boyfriend calling me, when 90% of the time it'll be my sister. Is there any way to change the default caller (in terms of caller ID) for a particular land line when a land line is shared among contacts?

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have the option to get a Black HTC Desire or the Brown one. Both are the same price, but the Black one is Orange branded, while the Brown is a factory unlocked version with no branding.
The Black one does look better in my opinion but is it worth it with the issues that arise when updating software (phone locked, wifi issues) when it seems to me the factory setting one will be easier to root and update?
still waiting for my htc desire black,what do people think look the best brown or black? not seen a comparison of the two both together but went for the black because there will be less of them.been waiting 3 weeks for my phone and running out of patience.

1) Do sms reports work well? Is there an option for notification when a message is delivered? Is the delivery report icon next to the message different when undelivered and delivered?
2) Can vCards sent via SMS be imported into the contact book easily? Does the import function really work?
3) Changing a contact's Display name: The same contact may have different names for different accounts, such as his face book profile, google profile, and how I've saved it in my phone. I know I can select any one of these to be displayed in my people app and for dialing, but does it stay that way? Presently the name keeps changing back to default and it's so damn frustrating.
4) Do face book profile pics in the contacts update on their own while syncing?
5) Can I change the password of my face book and gmail account in the phone's account settings?
6) Does the notification LED blink continuously if there's a notification, rather than give up after a few minutes?
7) Has shutdown speed improved?
Today I plugged my Desire in to the USB socket, to top up the charge, and noticed the little USB icon/logo thing that usually shows up on the top left of the Desire's screen wasn't there. I checked in the phone's settings and it is still set to ask me what to do when I plug it in. I have tried a couple of leads (including the one HTC gave me) as well as both front and back USB ports. My PC is running windows 7 and it plays the chime when I plug my phone in.
It also appears in devices/printers but when I right click the phone and choose browse files it is greyed out! I have tried uninstalling the drivers etc, restarting the PC, I even tried to plug the phone into my netbook (running Ubuntu, which used to recognize the phone) but nothing works! It is not really the end of the world but I would like to sort it. The phone charges when I plug it in the USB socket on the PC. I suddenly thought 'I haven't rebooted the phone' so I did and all works as it should now.
I do not have the option for "User Dictionary" when I press the settings key (button that looks like a gear at the bottom left of keyboard). I think its because of my location. I'm from Singapore and the keyboard that comes with it is a "CN Thai Keyboard". The settings button has a "abc" or "<chinese character>" below the "gear" symbol that toggles between chinese or english input when pressed. If held, some chinese input entry method options appear. No sight of an option to edit my user dictionary.
I want to edit the dictionary to remove wrongly spelled words I accidentally entered. I know the majority of you guys have another keyboard that came with your phone, and prob don't have this problem, but just wondering if someone from this forum might know..
Sorry for the question but is there a way that can make handcent my default option and not get 2 notification when I receive a message..

The option to allow the phone to backup automatically to SD card in Settings > Privacy have gone, does anyone know where the setting is now or even if a backup option is even available in froyo 2.2, because i can't find it anywhere even after a factory reset.

View 8 Replies View RelatedMy Issue: HTC Desire is stuck on boot-up screen with Green HTC logo forever.
How it happened: I tried flashing a script using ROM Manager that was supposed to correct some local language settings, over my current rom.
Phone state before action: Worked beautifully using Modaco R8 RC1 ROM. Phone is of course rooted.
Why I can't solve it myself: Well, this is my first serious issue (well, I hope it's not serious, actually!) with phone, which i've had for about a week , so I'm relatively a n00b.
-- I can access Clockworkmod recovery. However, under NANDROID RESTORE there are no files. I have no idea why, because I DID a full nandroid backup before that last install. I have a copy of all the IMG files of the last working setup on my windows machine hard drive, and my assumption now is that maybe I accidentally moved the files to the hard drive after i did that backup, instead of copying them.
Now -
1) Can I somehow restore the phone to a working state without the nandroid backup, using some other function of the CW Mod recovery?
2) Can I somehow connect the phone via USB to the computer and get it to read the Micro SD card so I could maybe move the IMG files I have back to SD Card (using some mounting options)?
3) Anything else I could try?
If nothing else, please just calm me down if you can and let me know the phone is fixable and not bricked because I can access recovery?! That would at least help me go through the night...
last note: Before I flashed the zip, ROM Manager indicated my CW Mod version is 2.0.5.7. Within the recovery itself, it says the version is only 2.0.5.1. Don't know why that is , and if it is important.
Got my nice shiney Desire HD yesterday. First HTC phone, first Android phone. Impressed on so many levels, but also have some questions and one problem.
1. How can I remove apps that are pre-installed like soundhound, talk, stock. The remove option is greyed out.
2. Can I create a sub folder in the menu tree and move like games into one. I have created a sub folder on the home page, but cant rename it from 'folder'
3. My phone picks up WiFi signal at home everytime I am in range. Does this mean WiFi is always on, searching. My experience from my E71 showed me this kills battery. I seem to struggle to get more than 10 hours life from the battery, what gives.
I am using handcent for my sms. i think it is great, i can customize it heaps how i want it. however there is an option for changing the colour/rate of the LED blink light for when i get a text, however no matter what i pick it never changes. the little light at the top always blinks every 4-5 seconds in a green colour when i have a new message, however i would love for it to blink blue every second (as i have tried to set it) so that i can differentiate the notifications from reminders and other notifications. is this a problem with the phone not doing wat it is supposed to, or the application isnt working? or a combination, maybe the desire doesnt have any other colours for its LED light?

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo, I love that I can link all my contacts to their Facebook profiles, but here's my issue. I have a different picture of my wife that I want to use as her caller ID. I added that picture to her contact, in "People" and it shows the small thumbnail on top when I go to "Edit Contact". I save after adding the pic and save again at the bottom of the edit screen, but it always shows her Facebook profile pic in the contact list and when she calls. The only way to get the other pic is to unlink her FB from the contact. Is it always going to do this as long as it's linked to FB, or is there a way to get the other pic assigned to her caller ID?

I heard from a friend (mind you, not a very tech-savvy friend) that you don't need caller ID in your monthly plan to see the number of the person whose calling you. Is this true? My carrier charges me 15 bucks a month for caller ID and unlimited texting, two features I feel I safely live without.I don't mind if no name comes up and it is just a number, I can live without a picture and name popping up for incoming calls, I just don't want it to say "Unknown Number" or something like my old crappy 10 year old cell phone did without it.
