HTC Desire :: Getting Around Caller ID

I just signed up with Telus and got a HTC Desire and I'm trying to avoid paying for Caller ID. I've tried saving my contacts on my sim card, my phone, and my sd card, but whenever someone calls me it always shows as unknown.Is there a setting or trick to getting Caller ID for free? By the way, all my contacts were imported from my Gmail account where I have their full name, phone numbers, emails etc. Is this enough for my phone to recognize who is calling and show it?

I get a call with a number.
I want to add that person to my People list.
When I click on the number the dialer opens.
I don't want to call the person but add them to my list.

just got my new phone all is fine but there is small problem and I don't know how to sort it out. On my old HTC HD Touch you were able to set it up the way that it will block my caller ID for anyone that is not in my contact list. I can't seem to find this option on a Desire. Is this something that has to be downloaded from market?

My sister and her boyfriend each have their own mobiles, but they share the same land line. When someone calls me from that land line, caller ID always shows that it's my sister's boyfriend calling me, when 90% of the time it'll be my sister. Is there any way to change the default caller (in terms of caller ID) for a particular land line when a land line is shared among contacts?

How to either replace the in call screen or put something on top of it....the only solution I have found thus far is to make my own ROM, which doesn't make sense for such a small portion of an OS. however I found these two apps (Full Screen Caller Pictures and Full Screen Caller ID) that are able to put a contact image and button on top of the standard in call screen.

So, I love that I can link all my contacts to their Facebook profiles, but here's my issue. I have a different picture of my wife that I want to use as her caller ID. I added that picture to her contact, in "People" and it shows the small thumbnail on top when I go to "Edit Contact". I save after adding the pic and save again at the bottom of the edit screen, but it always shows her Facebook profile pic in the contact list and when she calls. The only way to get the other pic is to unlink her FB from the contact. Is it always going to do this as long as it's linked to FB, or is there a way to get the other pic assigned to her caller ID?

Has anyone figured out how to hide your outgoing Caller ID on the EVO? I need to be able to do this in order to use my phone for work calls without giving out my personal number to everyone that I call.

my phone pay method is a 3 year plan, but i chose not to have caller id tho it costs like 7 dollars more per month for this add-on.is there any app that tells you who's calling? like their number?i mite get the caller id add-on for my phone later.

I've got an HTC Hero on Telus, I'm trying to cut back a little on my monthly expenses (for all things including my cell phone) and I'm just wondering if I need to subscribe to caller ID to see the number? I heard from a friend (mind you, not a very tech-savvy friend) that you don't need caller ID in your monthly plan to see the number of the person whose calling you. Is this true? My carrier charges me 15 bucks a month for caller ID and unlimited texting, two features I feel I safely live without.I don't mind if no name comes up and it is just a number, I can live without a picture and name popping up for incoming calls, I just don't want it to say "Unknown Number" or something like my old crappy 10 year old cell phone did without it. Sorry, I am new to smartphones and thought I'd ask.

I am not seeing any caller information at all when I receive any calls. I have tried calling from my office and home, both of which are in my contacts. I have even chosen the action to add this number (from my home) to my home contact since it didn't recognize it. But then I call again and still no info and I get another prompt to add this number to a contact. I have searched the forum, and checked every setting I can click on but I don't see anything for turning on or off any caller ID setting.I wonder if its something about my account as this is my second Incredible (had non responsive screen on first) and it did the same thing. Others in my office who have this phone don't have the problem.

I want to be able to get a vocal Caller ID, that way when I am out riding my bike and get a call I can hear who is calling. Example Phone rings and over the speaker or though my head phones I hear "Call from bob or 555-555-5555" My home phone does this so I was hoping there might be an app out there that would allow my droid to do it as well.

I was wondering if anyone knows if there's an app to replace the ID Caller. I would love something similar to the iPhone, where the Picture when someone calls is huge. Just seems that so much screen space is lost on the Android.

Every time someone calls in, there caller id isn't showing up. No name or no number. When i got into call history, all it says is unknown. Had it for 3 months, and it has never done this before. Anyone know what the problem is or how to fix?

Probably just like most people on here I have been pretty miserable with my phone since updating to 2.1. In my case it is mostly because of all the caller lag problems everyone ellse has already stated, and because of eratic behavior with bluetooth in my car.I have been scanning the threads every few days and I haven't seen anyone complaining about the caller lag problem in a while, is there a fix that I have missed, or have people just gotten borred of complaining and are acepting it.

I have a client who wishes to spoof the caller id for his phones he assigns to his sales staff. He wants the number to appear to be from his main office to better handle return calls from potential buyers.Is this possible?After reading many posts on this list and much time Google'ng,I'm thinking it's not. Meanwhile he is pointing to his internal phone system which does exactly as he described. All his office phones appear to dial out from the same number as far as the receivers caller id is concerned.How can I pull off the same on Android?

I dont have a android phone yet but I will soon. I do have a question about a feature my Motorola Razor v9m has that I really like, I use bluetooth everyday on my job and my phone has voice caller id so I know who is calling. Do the android phones have this or is a app out there for this?

so. i used to use a particular caller id/announcer app, but i recently changed roms and now i can't remember what it was called! i think the name had something to do with a mental problem, or maybe sleep. i think the icon was kinda swirly or spiraly. the settings screen i think had a blue background. there was an option to pay for a key to unlock some of the options, something in the ballpark of $3 or $5.

I did a search, but turned up nothing. (I also GOGGLED, but didn't get a proper answer). When someone that I don't know calls my HOUSE from their HOUSE, my caller ID shows the name and number. When someone that I don't know calls my EVO from their HOUSE, I only get a number. I realize that it is probably a SPRINT issue, but does anyone know why Caller ID on our wireless phones does not work like our HOME Caller ID? I realize that if someone is stored in your address book, that their name WILL come up. But was curious why we can't get a name from strangers. Believe it, it would prevent me from picking up a lot of cell calls if I knew who it was.

I know there have been sporadic complaints of random things happening (or not happening) since the update this week. So far, I myself haven't had any complaints, but I just noticed that if I get a call WHILE I'm on a call, only the phone number of the new caller shows up, and none of their contact info. I remember the phone showing me everything before, i.e. name/caller ID photo etc. Is anyone else having this problem or find a way to fix it? I don't think I've reset it by turning it off and pulling the battery yet, not that I know that would do any good, and I'm not doing a factory reset. I've got a ton of apps I'd rather not lose.
