HTC Desire :: Got Phone With Slcd Screen - 800x400 Resolution?
Jul 27, 2010
If I get a Desire with SLCD instead of AMOLED- does this mean the screen has a true 800x400 resolution instead of what has happened with the Pentile screens? I know, I know, its not really noticeable- but wouldn't hurt to ask right.

I am currently trying to track one down from t-mobile as there has been many shortages lately but, anyway i was told this was because of the screens being changed to SLCD ones from sony. I know that sony do quality products and that but, will there be much difference e.g battery life wise, representing color etc. compared to the AMOLED screens.

Finally received my Desire form Vodafone yesterday after waiting 3 weeks. Was wondering if there was anyway of telling if you have an AMOLED or SLCD screen?

I have a T-mobile UK Desire which arrived on 30th July. I'd like to root it and load froyo but I'm baffled as to which process to use: I have 0.80. Turned on the phone while holding back button which gave these details:
BRAVO PVT1 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.80.0000
MICROP 031d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-4.06.00.02_2

I don't have access to the packaging but I'm fairly sure it said 3.7 Touch Senstive Screen (no mention of AMOLED). I've tried having a look at the black hue the screen displays but this just confused me since I don't really know what i am looking for / got nothing to compare it to. This post has confused me further: "SLCD will NOT work on HBOOT 0.80" lollylost100 Senior Member [FAQ] HBOOT 0.83 / 0.92 / SLCD - rooting and recovery - xda-developers. Was 'lollylost100' correct and I DEFINETLY have AMOLED just because of the HBOOT version? Or is it possible to have 0.80 + SLCD?

I searched many forums but there seems to be no clear way to identify the screen type other than by eye. Clue #1: The box has no mention of AMOLED. Clue #2: P/N is 99HKZ009-00 Clue #3: Made in China Clue #4: Unbranded, unlocked phone bought from a US retailer. My plan is to root. According to what I've read so far, the method depends on the type of screen, SLCD or AMOLED. I need to know for sure, so as not to brick the phone.

MY SITUATION: My phone was rooted with unrevoked3. I tried to install one of the modaco ROMS and did not realize that it was incompatible with my phone because my Desire has a newer type of screen (not amoled) but SLCD. This caused the phone screen to go black on start up and be unresponsive. It was frightening because at first the HTC bootscreen (green HTC on white) had black streaks through it , then goes black. But don't worry it is easily redeemed in below instructions. You need the latest ROM in zip form, put onto your phone and run recovery. Sweet as suzi, you will be debranded (if you were in the process of doing this , remember to make your gold card).
ISSUE:
1. Desire screen not switching on at all even though phone switches on.
2. Phone boots but doesn't go beyond bootloader/recovery/fastboot
3. Can get into recovery even though nothing comes on screen (test: press volume down and power. Wait for 10 seconds. Press volume down. Press power. Phone should vibrate. Wait 20 seconds. Phone should now be in recovery mode.)
4. Can get into fastboot (back+power)
5. No goldcard
CAUSE of ORIGINAL AUTHOR'S ISSUE:
I had Aura Sense7.9+AlphaRev S-Off. Cause::Ran a very old RUU just because I wanted to bring things back to stock. The RUU overwrote my HBOOT from 0.93 to god knows what. Turned out, the RUU was for amoled screens and not for SLCD screen. So even though the phone turned on, the screen never did......

I have a program that should work on Android 1.5, but when it's run on newer devices with higher resolution screens, it should support the full resolution and not emulate a lower resolution screen. As far as I can tell from the documentation, this should be simple.
I just specify
code:.........
The problem is that if I tell Eclipse to compile for 1.5, it refuses to accept this. It reports an error (targetSdkVersion is an unknown tag) and refuses to compile or run. If I tell it to compile for 1.6 it works fine, of course. But if I then try to install on a 1.5 AVD, the program immediately crashes with a java.lang.VerifyError. I'm clearly missing something simple. How do I get it to compile an apk that works under 1.5, but still includes the targetSdkVersion tag?

I got my desire about 3 weeks ago and with a week i dropped it, shattered the digitiser and damaged the SLCD. I decided to "try" and do a self-repair - i bought a new digitixer and LCD (AMOLED). I know for sure that i had an SLCD as it wasn't branded samsung on the rear of the screen unlike its replacement which did. My problem is that the AMOLED won't work. my SLCD works fine (except the damaged pixels) so i know the handset itself is fine.

I just received a branded o2 desire with an slcd screen and have been reading various forum threads saying that making it unbranded may not work because it has an slcd - people have been getting black screens because drivers were not there? Is there a way to unbrand my desire without causing problems and also would i use the unrevoked method or goldcard? Also would i be able to receive OTA updates (official htc ones not o2 ones) after doing this.

This is from my original thread from XDA. It has had numerous hits and questions, which made me realize how so many people have had similar problems. There are solutions on XDA too, but the problem is that there is no one solution to the issue. There are a lot of solutions, but this is a aggregate of all the solutions. I will add FAQs as and when questions are asked, and will keep it as updated as possible. Criticisms, comments and questions are welcomed. HOW TO UN-BRICK AN SLCD BRICKED DESIRE Elementary Frequently asked questions have been included at the latter part of this post. Guide level: Beginner-Advanced (Beginners should read the FAQ at the end, before reading the instructions. Also be well versed with the Requirements I've listed, by reading from the articles listed, before you attempt the methods listed in the post). Caution. CREATING A GOLD CARD IS THE MOST IMPORTANT AND PRIMARY STEP TO DO BEFORE YOU ROOT YOUR DEVICE, WHETHER IT IS BRANDED OR UNBRANDED. IF YOU EVER WANT TO RETURN YOUR PHONE FOR WARRANTY, THIS IS ESSENTIAL, AND CAN GET YOU OUT OF MOST CASES OF SLCD BRICKS. What was my problem (a.k.a What is an SLCD bricked Desire? a.k.a Why is there nothing on my Desire screen after running an RUU/flashing an incompatible ROM)?......

Flashing kernals is new to me although general rooting is not. Apparently with my new Inc I have the slcd which will only work with a few kernals. What I had to do to get some new ROMs working was flash the ROM, then flash a specific kernal before booting up. That worked and I was able to flash some ROMs that I was not previously able to use. It has come to my attention that there are some kernals out there that are better for battery life so my questions are:
1) If I want to flash a new kernal over my existing ROM can I just do that? Boot into recovery and flash the new kernal? (After a nandroid of course.) Or do I have to flash the ROM again, then flash the new kernal and then boot up? Do I need to wipe anything before flashing a new kernal?
2) What are the best kernals for battery life that work with the slcd screen?

I'm a former iPhone user. I was happy with the iPhone but got bored with it. I'm still getting used the EVO. I love the screen size and the notification system. One thing I'm concerned about is the resolution. I've noticed in apps such as MLB At Bat it is not as crisp as the iPhone and the video in the app is not as crisp as it was on the iPhone. I don't think the resolution is bad but it concerns me that it will start to really bother me.

I'm trying to alter the default screen resolution of the Android emulator (and by extension, the Android device) to work at 1700x1200. In other words, I need the screen to be able to display unique points over that range. I have set the dimensions in my layout file, yet the device still defaults to 320x480. I've set different dpi densities, but to no avail.

I've travelling soon and plan to bring some anime along to watch. What is the max resolution of videos I can convert to? I saw that the max resolution of the Desire is 480 x 800 but my video conversation software(any video converter) does not provide such an option. I googled and read on somewhere else that its 720 x 480. I am planning for MP4 format as I need to save space since my Desire only came with 2 gig and i want to maximize the amount of videos I can get. Would MP4 be the best choice? or like WMV or 3GP?

The EVO looks like a sweet phone, and if they ever bring it to Verizon with some LTE love, I'll probably buy one, but does anyone wish that they increased the resolution of the screen just a little to take advantage of that big 4.3" display? Maybe the next gen will. All in all, it looks like a great device, but I don't think it's going to save Sprint.

I'm thinking of buying a HTC Tatoo for my wife as it only costs 80 Eur in our Country ( have to renew the contract anyway ) and i have a question about the resolution and the memory.
Is it true, that most of the apps from the market don't work well or dont work at all, because of the lower resolution than normal android phones ( 240x320 vs. 320x480 ) ???
This seems a big issue to me, and im surely not gonna buy the phone if this is true.
As i own a Samsung Galaxy with 192Mb RAM i know that memory is a big problem on Android phones and am wondering how much memory does the tatoo actualy have, considering different info on different sites? Does it have 256 Mb of memory and does it work well?
How is the phone performing overall, what are the main pro's and con's?, a question for the current users
