I'm a newbie to the Android world and HTC Desire's. I got mine on Monday and am very happy with it apart from that when I am at work and using the WiFi here, I cant download any apps. They just sit there and says starting download. I then turn off the WiFi and put on Data Connection and they still dont download. But when I go home and am connected to my WiFi, it all seems to work.

New member as I got my Desire today to replace my Iphone and so far I am loving the phone. What I would like to know is: is it only possible to download and install apps for the Desire via the PC first and then HTC sync them?Or is there a way to download & install directly to the Desire?

I went to purchase the acircuit live wallpaper app. The transaction failed to go through because my bank blocked it, as it was less than 1. It is now sitting in my list of downloaded apps in the Market app (not the installed list) and it says purchased. There is an install option, which if pressed tries to download it again, but fails because it has been blocked. I don't want the app now and just wish to clear this from my download list. I have installed an unistaller app, but this just shows a list of the installed apps. Can anyone help me with a solution to get rid of this from my app downloads list in the Market app.

I am new to the forum. I have searched for a similar topic so apologies if this has already been tackled elsewhere. I have just purchased an unlocked HTC Desire which I should take delivery of next week. I didn't want to get tied to an 18 or 24 month contract so opted for the unlocked phone. I am interested in the 10.00 a month rolling sim card only contract with T-Mobile with Internet booster as I want the phone primarily for Internet use as I hardly make calls/texts. However, the guy said 1 gb a month wasn't enough for Android phones and that things running in the background and downloading apps is too much of a drain and uses up your quota very quickly.
Is this correct? If so, is it possible to download apps to pcs and then to the phone to save the monthly usage? I have seen posts about wifi - is is possible to download apps using Wifi to save on monthly usage?

Long time lurker, first time poster here. As a brand new andoid fan, I've learned a lot from everyone here and now I would love to get help for my problem. I have downloaded lots of apps, but now there seems to be a problem. When I click to download, nothing happens, and then an orange triangle appears with the words "download was unsuccessful, please try again." I have tried all of the suggestions out there, removing and replacing the battery and SIM card, turning Wifi off and back on, logging out of Google Talk (although I seem to be automatically logged back in w/out doing anything), using 2G, 3G and Wifi.

I have rooted my phone and currently running DeFroST 2.7 Rom Android version 2.2, (did this back in early august) I basically would like to know what the current latest update for my HTC Desire is. Is there a newer DeFroST update out there or do i now update to Froyo 2.2? Also would like a pointer in direction of where to download the latest update from?

So, I either suck at the search function or a thread about this specifically does not exist (probably the former, sorry in advance if thats the case). I currently use Music Wizard to download Mp3's to my phone, and it works well but doesn't have much in the way of new releases and a lot of the results have strange characters in the titles (some chinese looking, others I have no idea).

I have recently bought my first smart phone - samsung galaxy 19000. Love the phone, but have not been able to download a single app from the android market since I got it (about 4 days ago. ) I click install it says currently downloading, starting download - but gets no further. I have search the internet and seen that loads of oter people have had this problem (regardless of tehir handset) but no one seems to have a definative solution. There seemed to be some stuff about changing from a googlemail account to gmail as teh start of the problem. However, I have googlemail - so can't be that. Even tried getting a gmail to see if that would do it. Nope. some people suggested clearing teh cache in the market folder in settings - no joy. Removing battery.

I have recently purchased an unlocked HTC Desire. As you may or may not know, here in Australia the only carrier of the Desire is Telstra. However I use 3 mobile so that's the reason I purchased an unlocked device.
My problem is that my phone has about a dozen or more apps which are installed by Telstra and uninstallable. Most of them are 100% useless because I'm not even on their network and I'd like them out of my applications list.
I've had a read around and I saw something about being able to remove them by deleting the file and then uninstalling them using a command prompt program.
Would anyone please be able to give me detailed instructions on how to do this because I'm not sure how to find the system/apps folder and I'm also not sure on how to get the command prompt thing to work.

I bought the Nexus One last sunday. I'm very pleased with how the phone works. On monday though, I started noticing notifications popping up from the Android Market. It said some applications failed to download. The only app I downloaded so far was Google Earth. Now every now and then it keeps feeding me with these notifications... I've installed an app killer to shut down the Android Market, but after a while it turns back on by itself.

I have rooted the phone and did not have a problem with installing apps. I deleted myspace and talk. a few days later when i download an app its stuck at starting download it just hangs there. Of course I though I backed up before I deleted anything and didn't. So I though a hard reset would fixed but didn't and removed all the apps I had installed.

When I download free apps it works just fine. But when I get paid apps, i get an e-mail thanking me for the purchase, but when I try to download, all i get is "authorizing purchase", it never downloads. I bought Shazam but it never downloaded, it's been a week now, and I went to places where I got 4G, I tried the Wi-fi, but nothing worked. I thought it was Shazam, so I bought a different, app like Shazam called SoundHound, but it still does the same problem. Is this a problem with my phone? should I go back to sprint and ask them about it? what's the best solution for this?

I'm having difficulty downloading some paid apps. My credit card information should be correct because I just bought the paid version of ROM Manager. Then I realized that I can only download apps that have American currency. All others freeze in the authorization stage.

First up apologies if you already know this, I only just fixed it and wanted to spread the solution. All day today I have been unable to download any Android apps from the marketplace, it's been very annoying. It turns out the problem is to do with Google's new offer for UK users to change their googlemail.com email account to a gmail.com account. Once I changed over my HTC Desire was suddenly unable to download apps from the Android Marketplace, it would forever say downloading and make no progress. The issue is with the Talk application on the handset, it needs to sign in on your google email address and that is what authenticates you to download from the marketplace. Now your email is a gmail.com address (rather than googlemail.com) the 'Talk' application cannot login and so you cannot download anything. There is no option to tweak the settings for the Talk application on the handset, you are stuck with the settings you already entered when you first set up the phone. So either you A) remove your googlemail.com account from your phone then re-add the gmail address. The problem is removing your googlemail.com requires a full phone reset, this involves losing EVERYTHING on your phone and starting from scratch.
